Dick's has a decent selection of most of what I'm looking for, but where are the employees? EVERY time I come here to purchase running shoes for myself or my family I'm initially met with the same service. None. I have to search for someone to retrieve shoes from the stockroom behind the shoe department. There is usually one person there to help several customers. Surely there are more employees in this behemoth, but where are they hiding? And the prices are high compared to other large stores that carry the same merchandise. You might be wondering why I'd even bother shopping at Dicks. My simple answer is that they're near my office and I'm too lazy some days to make the drive elsewhere. read more

I was super hesitant about coming here because of the Yelp rating. When I walked in I noticed that there were many associates, and each one was super eager to help. Seriously, every one had this cheery disposition. Talk about Christmas spirit! One associate had on a pair of Brooks, so I asked her about the different versions. I have always worn the Glycerins for running and teaching (high schoolers need lots of supervision). She suggested that I try on the others because they all have a different feel. When I got to the shoes, I was dead set on the Glycerins because I need lots of support. When I got to the back, Joel helped me. He was knowledgeable about shoes for running and cross training. I told him that I like shoes with a little less heel for lighting. He suggested these awesome shoes from Nike. I tried on the shoes, and I walked out with two pairs of great shoes. I love going on adventures and it's always fun to outfit yourself for said adventures. I prefer to go to a store to check out equipment and goods to get a feel for durability and quality and to hear from staff what might be a good choice. That being said, I'm not sure if Dick's is the place to go for adventure outfitting. It seems the store is 75% workout clothing and then a handful of aisles with sub-par brands for adventuring. We just went in for sleeping bags and the quality is just meh and the pricing isn't really clear. I also needed adult fins (they didn't have to be professional) and there wasn't any selection at all. The staff is nice though I have rarely seen anyone walking the aisles asking to offer assistance. This all could just be me and my adventures just aren't their target. They had more YETI gear than I've ever seen anywhere and some fun backpacks if you're heading back to school. read more

I've shopped at this Dick's four times while living in New Orleans. They consistently have poor customer service and the store is always a wreck (middle of the week, wreck. Saturday peak time, wreck.). This past time we stopped in to have a golf club worked on. Usually, we use the Westbank location for this service but not wanting to travel across the bridge we opted for Metairie. Mistake. Big mistake. Not only was the older gentleman rude, we had to wait 25 minutes for him to get over to the desk when we came back to pick it up (after paying)! Understaffed is one thing, rude employees who don't care about customers time is another. I'll be traveling to the Westbank or Baton Rouge location from now on. read more

Needed to get a pair of athletic foot ware (tennis shoes sounds dated) the associate was busy on their phone initially, although it was his stock tool. I asked to look at about 6 pairs and 3 of them, even when he scanned the bar code, he brought the ones. Ultimately I found a pair I wanted, through no help from him, never bothered to ask about fit anything, how I wanted to wear etc. I have a hard time with shoes so when I find a pair that work I buy them. But.....One of the least engaged sales associates I've met in awhile, he wouldn't be working for me. He's also not doing Dick's any favors so I hope you're reading. A large selection but way over-priced for what is there. I think their customer service is a little over-powering, every couple of steps, it seemed like someone else was asking if we needed anything. The last time I was this over-whelmed by pushy customer service was HH Greggs and they seemed like vultures. I went into this store to buy camping gear and lots of it. When I asked an employee to help me with a sleeping bag ( I wanted too see how it looked outside its cover) he first had a convo with his co worker then said rudely (while he was chewing gum in my face....) "As long as you put it back in the bag exactly the way you found it" I thought .... what a dick! Isn't that your job? He was so unhelpful and rude that I left the store. I'll never go back there! I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Dicks today. I need a high impact sports bra. In the entire store there was one and it was not my size. Most of the mid impact bras either had white deodorant marks or make up marks on them. 99% where "stained". I would not recommend this store to people who are looking for high quality clean athletic bras. read more

Helpful employees, but you are definitely paying for it. I'd say dicks has at least a 25% markup from other sporting goods stores. If you need something quick, you can definitely achieve that objective here. Not something I always mind paying for, but if I have the time I will go elsewhere. I went into the store today on my lunch break looking for running shoes. There was no one in the shoe department to help me. Once I asked someone for help another employee was called. He went to get the shoe and handed them to me with absolutely no verbal communication. I'm having issue with arch suport but I didn't feel comfortable asking for advice bc the young man did not look eager to help or work. He just lingered around until I finished deliberating over which shoe to purchase. In the end I purchased nothing. Please find employees that want to do there jobs. The customer service was wonderful. They knew about the products that they were selling. And even though they didn't have what I need, they were able to point me in the right direction. But the reason why I gave it four stars and not five was because there's not a lot of selections there. Lots of clothing, but not a lot of equipment that you need. Went with my brother who is a very active athlete and needed some new weights. We made our way to the weight section and they had everything we needed. A young man asked if we needed anything. Check out line was average and the cashier dug up a $10 off coupon for us. As a big coupon spender I was a little disappointed she couldn't dig up more as we were making a rather expensive purchase. I also searched online coupons and they had some amazing online deals but nothing in the mail or to be used in store which was disappointing. I am not an avid sports shopper so can't really speak to prices. But experience was pretty average for a store of this size. Just wish there were more sales. read more

I went to Dick's Sporting Goods looking to get a single dumbbell to add to my cheap starter set so I'd have a better range of weights and a decent workout mat. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the cashiers and asked if I needed any help in a pleasant tone (good work, cashiers). They directed me back to the free weight section where I talked to the worker there about my needs, what exercises I am doing and what I'm trying to get out of my work out. He listened, asked appropriate questions and then made a great recommendation. He offered me an option of just getting the weight that I needed and talked about both the pros (cheap price) and cons (takes up a lot of space and buying weights one at a time adds up). Then he showed me the high end set that was on sale, one of those fully adjustable dumbbell models. It was waaay more than I planned on spending, but compact and rugged. I wound up getting the expensive set to save some space in my cramped apartment and because I realized I would be wanting more weight eventually. My friendly salesperson went and checked to make sure they had a set in stock and came back with not just a giant box full of weights but a $10 coupon as well. I went to Dick's because it's right by my house and convenient, but I'll keep going there because the staff was very nice, listened to what I had to say, and gave me reasonable options for my purchase. When I went here it didn't have any of the things I were looking for in stock. I had to buy it on there online store which made me upset, because I'm not a patient person overall when it comes to having to wait for my shipment come in during online shopping. There was one employee that I found most helpful, and another less agreeable to work with me (rude). I know having a job sucks and you're actually doing it more for the money than the enjoyment of it when it comes to part-time, but part of your job is to make your customer feel welcomed... And he did not welcome me at all. I will come back for sporting goods although, I rather Dick's atmosphere than Academy's. P.S. If you're looking for most of your sport needs I do recommend Dick's over Academy, because although Academy has a larger department-Dick's specializes more in the Sporting activity. read more

Been here a few times and it is probably the best option for a full selection of sporting goods in the area. The Sports Authority in Elmwood is horrible so this Dick's location was needed for sure. Shoes had a red clearance clip attached to them, price tag of $29.98, originally $108.00 inside shoe. Once I was checking out with over $100 in other products the shoes rang up $79.98. Went here this morning to get some new New Brooks Adrenaline shoes. I knew my size and went with my the display shoe in hand to find a employee. There was two employees in the shoe section one employee was trying to put back shoes and the other employee with the big poofy hair was doing jack shit. She looked back at me as i'm walking behind them with the shoe i want and she turns back around and start pretending to help the other worker find the shoe to put back in the box. She completely IGNORED ME. The woman with the dark poofy hair is at fault she was the lazy one who was doing nothing the whole 30 minutes i was shopping and then she pretending to be busy when I needed help. I gave them a minute or two to come help me and when she didn't i threw the shoe back on the table and left the store. I am never stepping foot in this store again. They sell sporting goods they don't know how to use so don't bother asking for information about a product. But you will get the sound advise, "You can google it" as a customer service. But then don't bother asking if you can take the product out of the box because the employee will grimace and use an ear piece to ask the manager hiding in his office and passes along his answer that they cant take it out of the box because there is a zip tie on it. So evidently sporting store manager does not know how to apply a new zip tie. Maybe his employee should advise him to google it. read more
