Had a great experience today at this location. Went in looking for volleyball shoes for my daughter. Todd was extremely helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. He helped my daughter find the shoes she needed and even brought a stack of socks for consideration which was very thoughtful. He then asked if there was anything else we were looking for and accompanied us directly to the additional items we needed l. He even walked us up to the counter to checkout. Very helpful and courteous staff to answer any question or direct a lost shopper. We just bought a treadmill to replace our old one. Staff readily helped us make the deal with another location in Palatine but were ready and able to show all the bells and whistles to me on Friday and then me and my wife today (when she returned to confirm the purchase). With stores in this area plus more across the street and down the road in Deer Park, this can be a great place to walk and to shop and to meet a friend or two for lunch or for business. This location plus the one farther south on Rand in Palatine plus the one at Woodfield and the one in Niles remain among the best of the few remaining sports chain stores in the area -- even during COVID days. Prices can be high on some items but you do get quality. Other areas seem to offer more clearance items and, I believe, more sale items at times. I do support smaller stores but this one tends to be our go-to for shoes, equipment, and some clothing. Always pleasant and always willing to refund on overpayment or missed coupon or other matter. Incredibly upset with your service and likely will not purchase anything further from your company. I paid $150 for shipping on a kayak that was supposed to be delivered on July 29th. After several calls to Pilot Freight, your shipping company, and speaking with three different representatives as well as speaking to several of your agents and trying to use your online tools; no one has a clue where my order is or if it will be delivered. When your shipping service tells me they have a whole section of a warehouse with kayaks and cannot ship them because they don't know where they are supposed to go, it inspires little to no confidence. At this point I am hoping to at least get a refund, especially for shipping, since this has just become a ridiculous debacle which has ruined the Dick's brand for me moving forward. This is just an average Dick's. It is a bit on the small side and the layout is strange. I stopped by after an awful experience with a running store down the street. I was in search of a hydration belt to use on the longer runs of my marathon training. Trust me, the belts may look silly, but try carrying a water bottle around for an 18 mile run. Plus, the belts can hold other items like your phone, ID and fuel to keep you going on the long run. Anyway, I also saw a sign for 40% off the clearance, which caught my eye. I mean, who doesn't love a sale? Also, I had a $10 off coupon so I was itching to buy something. In terms of service, they were a lot friendlier than the running store down the street. Everything was organized well and easy to find, but I felt cramped shopping in the different departments. Eventually, I found the hydration belts, which are located in the back by the shoes and socks section. The belts were on sale, which was a huge plus. I tried a few of them on and eventually selected the one I wanted. The cashier who checked me out was very friendly. She told me about the warranty plan, which would cover the belt if it were to malfunction. It was an additional $4, but it was money well spent since I plan on using the belt often. Overall, it's a decent Dick's, but I thought it would be somewhat of a nicer store and have a better selection since it is located in Deer Park, which is a pretty well to do area. Don't bother shopping during the day! I was ready to buy a bike from Dicks' that I had selected on line. Wanted to look at it sit on it and ask some questions. Went to the store, hung out in the Bike dept. looked at the bike and waited for someone to help me. No one came in 15 minutes. Went to the only person I coudl find, in the check out line. HE said oh sure I'll get someone to come help you in bikes. Waited another 10 minutes and walked out went to the local bike shop and paid about twice as much for a bike with support and knowledgeable staff. These guys are kidding. read more

I wouldn't recommend taking your sports equipment to get serviced. (tune ups, regripped, repaired, etc) Dick's advertizes that they provide these services but they apparently have 1 guy to do it all and they tend to be backed up all the time. They say he has "other responsibilities", so things just don't get done in a timely manner. My wife and I also go to this store looking for shoes and each time I find a pair I like they don't have my size. My wife and I are pretty average shoe size. I seem to be constantly disappointed each time I go to show there. They seem to encourage you to try elsewhere first. It's too bad, this store used to be better. read more

Extremely poor customer service on multiple occasions! Today I purchased quite a few items, including soccer shoes. I got home and realized the cashier had forgotten to remove the anti theft alarm off the shoes. So I had to spend time, money, and gas to drive back to the store a 2nd time to get the device removed. I asked for a store manager when I returned. The managers customer service were lacking as well. He simply apologized and said "shame on you" to the cashier. I could have done that! Whatever happened to good old customer service skills? Maybe a coupon or something of value for your error and my time? I just spent over $150 and I had to go to this store twice. It was quite obvious today that you don't care about my business, so I'm done spending my money at your store. Lately, Dick's Sporting Goods has been very disappointing. I go over there for women's basketball shoes... there was none except in colors pink. Then, I need a women's basketball and all of the shelves are full with men's basketballs it was unfair and very annoying. Unsure if I will return because this is outrageous. read more

The last time I was at this location was in April, as you could see I am still upset about what happened - because three months later I still remember - and am willing to write about it... I needed to re-grip my golf potter - I bought the CUBS grip at a Chicago Golf Show in February, and was very excited to change the grip. I figured since the Cubs are finally world champs - a grip with their name on it would do wonders to my golf score. I called Dicks and was told by the golf pro that it will cost $3.95 - awesome... When I came in to the store in April, the golf pro was off and I was taken care of by a 20-something who charged me $6.95 and told me to call in a few days - still awesome. When I came to pick up the club I went to the golf counter and said I am here to pick up my potter: Golf Pro: "The one with the CUBS logo on it that needed to be cut down a bit. Me: "Yes, thats right" Golf Pro: "Do you have your receipt with you?" Me: "No, I wasnt told I needed a receipt, but if I need to prove who I am - I could give you my drivers license. Because my name should be on your ticket." Golf Pro: "No, thats not it - I dont know if you paid" Me: " You mean the $7 - of course I paid. You could check my credit card transaction" Golf Pro: "No we cant'... As we were talking, we were heading towards the register where the Golf pro handed my potter to a 20-something at the register where we had a similar conversation. Basically, for a $7 dollar sale - the two of them assumed that I didnt pay and I am lying that I did - because I didnt have a receipt - the receipt that I wasnt told to bring back - the receipt that they should have had a copy of - the transaction that they I am sure - could have been checked in their system. BUT, even if there was no way to find out - is it really worth it to call customer a liar for lousy seven dollars? So, I had to pay again. When I came out of the store I was so upset I called the general manager and told her what happened. She didnt get it either - its not the $7 that she put back on my credit card - its the horrible customer service that I had to deal with because of the lousy $7! But - 'good news ' - now every time I golf I remember this, and have a really good explanation of why I am so bad at golf!... read more

We went in looking for a couple of items. The first item we were looking for was snorkel gear. I headed in the direction I thought they would be and was greeted by an employee who asked if he could assist me. I told him what I was looking for and he showed me right where to find them, however then he walked away without seeing if I had any questions. It was fine, just sort of surprised me. Then we went to the golf section, shopping other items along the way adding them to our arms to buy. Once in the golf area, and employee said hi, but didn't ask if he could help or if we had any questions. Even as golf glove after golf glove was tried on in an effort to find hopefully the right one...no assistance was offered. The young man at the checkout counter was friendly. I think his name was mike, but I could be wrong about that. So although not a horrible experience, also not really a fantastic one either. read more

Item was clearly marked 34.99 and tried to charge me 39.99 minus 10% off. WTF. That was first and last time I will visit the Dick! Like the name, they are all bunch of dicks. I usually go to this location because I live in Cook County where they have extra tax on ammo and firearms. The ammo prices here are pretty cheap and the taxes are low compared to Cook County. All of Cook County has an additional $25 gun tax and they tax bullets 2 cents each. I have no complaints about the customer service. This past Saturday they had a shotgun I wanted at a ridiculously low price so I paid for it thinking I could pick it up 24 hours later. My background didn't clear until Monday then I was told I had to wait another 24 hours? I talked to the manager (Shane) and he told me that was a company policy that you have to wait for 24 hours after your background check clears. This won't be my last firearm purchase here because of the potential to save a lot of money although there is always Buds, Gat Guns, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops where it is actually according to law not company policy. Plus I don't see that policy anywhere written but it is not limited to this location I've heard about it happening in Niles. The good really out weigh the bad in terms of prices on ammo and other sale items. Also the background check fee is only $2 there. read more

We stopped by for a bike for my daughter this morning, and I couldn't have been happier with the service we received. Doc, the salesman, walked us through all the options, and recommended a bike that was the right size. My daughter is very tall for her age, and at 9, she actually needed a small women's bike. After settling on a bike, he adjusted the breaks to fit her smaller hands, adjusted the seat, conducted a safety check, attached a water bottle holder, and a new kick stand. He also walked her through how to get the bigger bike started, and how to safely get off when stopping. Can't say enough about the above average customer service. We will be going back for future bike needs. read more

NO raincheck or back order available and as stated by the customer service rep the item "will never be at that price again"....this completely outrageous if DICK's has under marked items on their website how do we know they do not have over priced items as well? My husband and I came into this Dicks location to buy some bikes we found at the Algonquin location. Unfortunately, they didn't fit in my car so we had to come home to get my husbands car and just decided to go to the Deer Park location since it was closer to home. They had the bikes we wanted but noticed that they didn't have any reflectors on them, and when we asked if we could just take them off of another bike they told us no. Which is fine, but then they told us we couldn't even purchase the bikes because there was not a bike specialist in the building to do a security check. Now, why would they have a bike section, with bikes to purchase, but no bike specialist? Well when I asked the manager, she had nothing to say except sorry. I appreciate her sorry but she was more concerned with getting somewhere else than she was with resolving my issue. I was ready to drop $1000.00 on 2 bikes but I couldn't purchase them because they didn't have the proper people on staff. I tried to be rational and calm but the minute she walked up to me she had a negative attitude and had absolutely no sympathy. I understand being busy and short staffed- I've been in that position too but she wasn't even trying! Had she tried to offer a reasonable solution I probably wouldn't be writing this negative review... Maybe a coupon or discount for my inconvenience? Dick's Sporting Goods in Deer Park is not a store that cares about their customers or stands behind their products! We bought a basketball hoop and warranty for our driveway. Dick's hires out to a 3rd party Go Configure. When they came to install the foundation they would not put in where I wanted because the gas line might be close. So I said put it where you think it should go. I have a narrow driveway and they installed it so the 5ft glass backboard would hang in the middle of my driveway when the hoop is at 7.5 feet for my 3 and 5 year old can play. They also used half of the recommended cement that the manufactor requires for the foundation. Now I have a safety issue for my kids and all the others in the neighborhood. Afraid the lack of cement will not hold up that big glass board especially in a storm. We do not have street lights and I'm also afraid a larger car will pull in and hit the low back board. Dealt with Eric the store manager for 2 months about getting this resolved. He started out saying he was on our side and we will get this fixed to accusing me of lying and not returning our calls. So not it has been 3.5 months and we are screwed. We paid $1300 for the hoop, installation, and warranty. Now they want us to pay an additional $700 to move the foundation and break up the old one. I hired a professional to come to my house and help me find the best spot for my hoop and proper installation. What did I get? A big joke! They also would not let me return it since the box was opened. I have written the CEO of the company and now disputing the charge through my credit card company. Save yourself a lot of hassle and don't shop here. They truly don't care about their customers and don't stand behind their product! read more
