Whoa-ho!!!
Am I really the first Yelper to review the fine eating and drinking establishment that is DICK'S?
Here's the deal:
Dick's is the place to go in Balmain when you want to go out wearing comfy clothes to watch sports, down jugs of Coopers, and munch decent pizza. It has a massive covered garden where drunken punters swig beer by the litre and whistle at girls walking by dressed up like they are going to the races, when really, they are just going to Dick's.
BF has been coming here with his mates for a good year, and his only complaint, other than the beer being on the pricey side ($16- $18 for a jug, but standard for Balmain) is that the staff can be snotty. However, in the 4 months I've lived in Balmain I've been to Dick's more than a few times and the bar staff has been nothing but nice. Tip: the males are nicer than the females. Then again, I'm a girl.
But the best thing about Dick's is the quality of the food. From the outside, it just looks like a place to "sink piss," as my beloved Kiwi puts it, so I was not expecting much from the menu. The food is surprisingly fresh, delicious and comes out quickly. They also have a good selection of sauces, including both Dijon and English mustard. Portions of wedges are on the big side, and they do $12 schintzel and pasta specials some weekdays. Never had the specials, but I've seen them come out of the kitchen and they look and smell great. I can't help but die a little inside when I spend $20 on a bar pizza, but Dick's really does deliver. The COOP pizza (chicken, ham and BBQ sauce) is a particular fave.
I dinged them a star since it gets a little grubby, but what do you expect from a place with a name like DICK'S? read more
