We're 4 old farts traveling cross country. Stopped in Fort Stokton. Starving, didn't realize the town went to sleep at 5 pm. We saw Dickies was open and decided to try. Glad we did! Was so hungry I forgot to take pictures. They were out of all chicken and sausage items, so we were stuck with their pulled pork sandwiches, brisket sandwich and brisket baker. Sides of mac and cheese and fries. The pulled pork was delicious and their original sauce just right. When I bit into the brisket sandwich my mouth said, "This is how brisket should taste." I thought I had good brisket before but this was special. Might not be everyone's taste but it had a little corned beef overtone. The stuffed potato had that fresh off the grill flavor to the skin and the brisket excellent. The fries were thin and crispy, the mac n cheese creamy. The two positive reviews I saw have to be fake, or this is not the same restaurant. We traveled for hours and needed to eat. We were excited to be there but upon our entry, we were not greeted and rudely ignored. We paid over $25 per person and did not get all the food we ordered. When we politely informed them, they rolled their eyes and brought out half of what we had just told them we were missing. The manager (possibly an owner) was there and could not have cared less; this wasn't just teenagers working there. The wings we ordered were burnt to a crisp and two of us straight up got just the tips of the wings, as in not flat or drum, the part you aren't supposed to serve. No one got more than 12 fries or the type of fry seasoning we ordered. Even the Texas toast was uncooked and not buttered. Go to Dairy Queen across the street and flip this place off on your way. read more

Driving from El Paso to Austin there is not a lot options mid drive. Ozona, Sonora and Junction are all smaller towns with restaurants that close at random times. Call ahead. We got there a little before closing on Memorial Day, so luckily they were able to accommodate us. I'm familiar with Dickey's after trying it in my homestate and another state I called home for awhile, it's still not the same Dickey's as in the past with the delicious cinnamon ice cream. That being said, they have a large menu selection. I got the brisket sandwich (hot and tasty with the sweet BBQ sauce on the side), the mac and cheese (loved it), and a classic sweet tea. When in Texas. I don't know if they couldn't understand me with a mask on, but had given me a side of green beans in addition to the mac and cheese they said was part of a special and the "last of the night". I said I didn't want the green beans, so my friend took them. Dessert was tempting with choices being pecan pie, blondies, and chocolate chip cookies. Alas, I didn't take the opportunity and regretted it later. Prices were already reasonable, but they must've given me some sort of a discount, as everything added up to only $10.62 (normally would've added up to $14.88). What the heck in Betty Crocker tar nation is this place??? Bbq is definitely not the term I would use here, shoot I'm not sure there is any term other than raw hide leather! I walked in here and initially seeing the place dead empty should have been all the signs I needed but I missed them. Now normally I would never leave a review like this, but it's something that needs to be had after the experience I had here. There were three young teenagers sitting off on a table towards the back corner when I first walked in with no one in site working behind the counter. After a few minutes of looking at the menu and just standing there(already knew what I was ordering prior to entering) the three teenagers ended being the workers as they all walked behind the counter and started putting gloves on to help me. I put my order in which was two meat plate brisket with jalapeño beans and fries. When I say 2 minutes later they say my food is ready I was kinda in shocked that fries and all that could be cooked or even prepped that fast. Boy was I going to be in for one heck of ride of a attempt at eating a meal. I got back to my hotel opened up the food and was completely dumb founded at what I was looking at. The brisket was harder and tougher than the raw hides I give my dogs back home. Your side buck knife wouldn't cut through this. Not a ounce of moisture anywhere in the meat. For the two meat they give was maybe 1/4 weight as you see in pictures. The roll that came with was just fresh out the bag and the fries were as expected, been cooked awhile ago and sitting there for who knows how long. The beans were same thing, mildly cold and tasted like the were cooked last month and getting the everyday re heat until it runs out. The one small side of bbq sauce was only enough for one slice of meat which still not enough sauce to make moisture to be able to chew the thing which I couldn't. After the meal was a failure across the board at least I could wash what I attempted to eat down with some of the ice tea. Ya that wasn't happening either bad old stale flavor. Definitely a place I would never come back too. Horrible experience. If this is what Texas calls BBQ I have lots of questions and concerns...just saying! read more

Portion size match prices, a three meat plate was $15. Sweet bbq sauce was straight brown sugar, too sweet, even for our party that had a bunch of sweet things. Brisket was dry Pulled Pork was dry Sausage was good with the regular bbq sauce. Potato salad and Slaw Salad were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner here. I'm not a competition BBQ cook, but I've been smoking my own meat for a number of years, and I'm pretty comfortable around a brisket. We came in with lowered expectations because of a couple of recent reviews on Yelp. Frankly, I don't have any idea what they were complaining about, because we had an excellent experience. We were warmly greeted by two young but extremely polite guys behind the counter. They went out of their way to please the customers ahead of us, and were very gracious to us. The food was quickly prepared, sliced as we watched, generously portioned and delicious. The brisket plate (we both ordered it) was delicious. Sauce provided on the side was fine, but I mostly don't use it, because I like the taste of smoked meat and see no reason to cover it. The brisket was quite properly cooked. You could cut it with a fork, but it didn't fall apart as you ate it. It was lean, but not at all dry. There are a bunch of ways to ruin a brisket, and a lot fewer ways to make one that delights the eater. This was delightful brisket. My wife and I both loved it. My sides (cole slaw and jalapeño beans) were tasty. We didn't eat dessert, so I have no opinion there. You can probably get better brisket if you stand in line someplace in Austin, but for a quick BBQ dinner in a small town, this has a lot to recommend it. Ordered the Cuebano yes it is spelled this way slightly different sandwich than the traditional Cubano. Pork, Kielbasa, cheese onions, mustard and pickles. Asked them to hold the cheese. They said they didn't have onions I think as a hold over from the storm. No problem with that. When I got where I was going and opened up the bag they had left off the pickle and mustard all I got was the meat. Ordered Waffle fries as a side got deep breaded fried vegetable of some kind instead. I was there about 20 minutes before closing time, there were more people after me, but the body language from the staff was "let's hurry up shut this place down". So Bad, I threw away my entire tray away in front of the NEW OWNER! The sauce was funky tasting (the sauce that Dickey's) supplies their franchisees. All.The Root beer was tweaked with an abundance of syrup TOO SWEET! No Dr. Pepper, the Brisket was hard, the ribs were just one of the meat selections not impressed, and the third jalapeño sausage cheese was an impressive either.
