So I bought tickets to Puccini's La Boheme and turned my husband on to the Met. Years ago, you'd read the libretto and soak in the music without following the dialogue. No longer. Text appears at your seat. And I'm not sure I like that. Dialogue is often trite and not worthy of the music and the grandeur of their voices. On the other hand, the audience understands the story line blow-by-blow. Lincoln Center and the Met is spectacular. Performances are world-class. Many patrons still dress in gowns and suits. I even spotted several dapper gents in tuxedos. If you're in New York and willing to splurge, visit Lincoln Center. My husband, who didn't think he'd enjoy opera, asked me to buy tickets to another!

Getting inside through security and ticket was a bit of a mess but it was fine. What really annoyed me was the fact that the bartender did not tell me that I had to buy a different cup for my drink to bring inside. Yes I did see a sign on top of the bar but wasn't sure what it said maybe this is the sign that explained about the cups and I just missed it. Well anyways, I got just a cup of regular seltzer water. I got the check it was like 9 something. I know it's the Met opera and nyc but come on! I pay this for great tasting coffee. So he gave me the cup and than I asked for a lid and the bartender was rude about it he told me there were no lids and I asked if I could bring into the main theater he said no that i'd have to buy another cup. So I did.. A little over 5.00 for this cup which is pretty absurd if you ask me. Also, they don't have many food/snack options it is not like a regular broadway theater at all. I did see like sandwiches and chocolate bars. Which I am sure are also outrageously priced. The theater itself is beautiful and there are many levels to it. At every seat there is a subtitle little screen since some operas performed here are not in english. This is a good idea. I did not go see the bathroom so I can't talk about that. And as I was leaving I said thank you to one of the workers here and have a good night and he just looked at me and said nothing. For the price of tickets we pay the service just did not deliver.

What happened at Bill Irwin's The Imaginary Invalid at the Todd Haimes Theatre on September 27,…read more2026? Here's the truth. I attended Roundabout Theatre Company's The Imaginary Invalid as a ticketed, non-ambulatory wheelchair user, Disabled journalist and Founder and Director of Ghost Light Access. Roundabout had received weeks of written notice concerning my disabilities and access requirements. The advance record covered wheelchair clearance, emergency egress, hearing loss, medical equipment, security screening, severe dog allergy, phone access, wheelchair controls and lighting, sightlines, exterior crowd safety and my need to remain in my prescribed power wheelchair. Roundabout agreed to remove a railing because Orchestra K19, as ordinarily configured, could not accommodate my wheelchair's approximately 72-inch occupied envelope in medically necessary recline. Other access questions remained unresolved when I arrived. Roundabout's new Criterion ticketing system also failed on the day of the performance with the error "method_id format is invalid." Before the show, I documented a manager referring to me over the radio as "a wheelchair." During the performance, I raised an unresolved access concern using a voice I could hear. I have documented hearing loss from mastoiditis. The same manager demanded that I leave and acknowledged that his judgment about my volume was subjective. I asked the manager to identify the statute authorizing my removal. His recorded answer was "No." I cited the disability-related protections I was invoking under the New York City Human Rights Law and Title III of the ADA. Roundabout then stopped the performance. Audience members jeered, cheered and directed recorded abuse at me, including "crp," "crple," "wheele," "btch," "lunat*c," "psycho," "narcissist" and "old bag." I was alone in my wheelchair while the auditorium treated enforcement of my access rights as the disruption. The staff exchange and the audience's conduct are preserved on contemporaneous video. NYPD responded after a woman I had never met approached my custom prescription power wheelchair and demanded that the manager who had referred to me as "a wheelchair" make me leave. This occurred immediately after I invoked my disability rights. The manager agreed to force me out. That sequence is part of my documented retaliation complaint under the New York City Human Rights Law. As it turned out, I was very glad the officers were there because the audience's conduct made me feel profoundly unsafe. I ultimately chose to leave with the officers' assistance. As I left, I high-fived one officer from the 14th Precinct and whispered to him, "I trust you." This is also preserved on video. I was not arrested, trespassed, forcibly removed pursuant to police authority or prohibited from returning. I obtained the officers' names and shield numbers and filed a criminal complaint concerning conduct during the incident. One prominent Reddit account described the incident using a "mash" of personal observation and statements from other patrons. Another admitted hearing only "bits and pieces." Those secondhand Reddit accounts now dominate some Google results. This post supplies the missing first-person record. Defenses of the audience's conduct are rooted in missing information and anti-disability feeling.

If you are 30 years old or younger, you are able to purchase tickets to the ballet for $30. You can register online ahead of time, but know that our IDs never seemed to get approved online, so we still had to go in person to purchase the tickets. You are able to only purchase two tickets under your name and you must have your ID with you for this program. We went for the Balanchine + Wheeldon show which was incredible. First of all, this theater is beyond beautiful. It was a really rainy night, but the beauty of this theater helped me forget how wet we were from the rain. You are able to take stairs or an elevator to your floor. The ushers were extremely kind and helpful. The seats themselves were pretty comfortable. I love how angled the seating was. As a shorter person, this can really obstruct my view, but the overly angled seating helped remedy this. The ballets themselves were incredible. Each one better than the next. It was such a magical night. I highly recommend visiting the this ballet.

One of the features that I appreciated was that the orchestra section had stadium style seating. So, you're not stuck staring at the back of someone's head. The security process was super quick and we were in the theater in seconds. We got a drink at the bar ($5 off refills if you bring your cups back!) and found our seats. We were 4th row mezzanine. The view was fantastic and the seats were comfortable with a lot of leg room compared to other Broadway theaters. The bathrooms are small, so make sure to jump up right at intermission and get in line! The line moved pretty quick and the bathroom attendants were helpful in moving it along. The show itself was super fun! If you are a fan of the book, I definitely recommend seeing this. It wasn't my favorite show ever, but I really enjoyed it and loved the sets/costumes. Definitely recommend, especially if you can score the online lottery seats!

I had a wonderful evening at the David Koch Theater, home of the New York City Ballet! The program, none of which I was familiar with, was beautiful. Each of the three ballets so different in dance, music, set and costume. Unlike myself, it has gone through renovations over the years through donations and the biggest of $100M was by the current namesake. The theater is traditionally arranged with a large orchestra seating area, 5 tiered ring balconies and a large orchestra pit in front of the stage. The promenade at the first tier level is gorgeous with a wide open rotunda and marble floors. The hanging sculptures on the stairs and on the rotunda floor are pretty impressive. The inside of the auditorium itself was equally impressive. We had a great view from our from our roomy seats in row K of the orchestra. We had seen a performance of the King and I here a few years ago, but for this recent attendance, we saw the China Ningbo Performance & Arts rendition of "Mulan" that was a limited weekend engagement of 4 performances. This was totally unlike the Americanized Disney animated film of the ancient Chinese legend. The interpretive dance choreography conveyed the story without dialogue and screens on the sides of the stage gave poetic narration before each act. I always marvel at the stage mechanics and lighting. The rotating floor panels and off stage floodlights added to the drama of the performance. The David H. Koch theater is definitely an experience in itself. I hope to see many new performances there in the future.

Yes, I've read that people feel cramped in the seats and there isn't a lot of leg room, but that is the price you pay for an amazing theater experience! I live in Denver where our theater is much larger, but we also have a terrible view. At the Walter Kerr Theater, I'm convinced that there isn't a bad seat in the orchestra or mezzanine because it really is a small theater. It's definitely worth the $ for a view like this! The staff was unbelievably friendly and welcoming. They even checked my small suitcase without a charge, which I greatly appreciated. And I was able to bring my small backpack to my seat. They offer drinks and snacks delivered to your seats, if you're interested. And the line for the bathroom was long, but a very nice employee kept it organized and moving along. This is the review of Walter Kerr theater and the current production of "Hadestown"…read more This theater is very cramped and that is one of my major peeves regarding Broadway theaters. I was seated in the center of front mezzanine, which entails going around multiple people on the aisle seats. The other issue with small theaters are the restrooms. There is only one bathroom for men and one for women. This leads to massive lines and long wait times. Some of my positive experiences include the box office pickup. It was really fast and the box office workers were all so nice. I thought that this specific production of Hadestown was pretty good, but it was slightly overhyped. I must say that the first run through of "Wait for me" in act one and "Road to Hell" were the songs that stood out the most to me.

At one point, I was talking to someone and some other guy showed up then whisked the person I was talking to away (who never came back to continue the conversation, by the way). I'm pretty sure it wasn't some "you're annoying and obnoxious" thing since I hadn't exchanged many words with him, I looked as cute as I normally do and this other guy wasn't there when this first guy approached me. I'm also conservative moderate to apolitical and it felt like if you didn't play in the leftist sandbox, you'd also not be welcome (more a vibe than a direct experience) but that didn't feel like how you should treat someone you've contacted to see about being on your board or who has the background I have. You never know who's going to show up to things or who knows who.
