They have so many gorgeous options I always circle the shop at least twice to make sure I haven't missed anything. They also have a special wall for African print designs - I've never seen that in a quilt shop before. They're fabulous about keeping their inventory fresh, so there is always a new tool for me to covet when I walk in. This store is like a goody bag for adults. The owner is almost always there, she knows so many shoppers' names. Whenever I buy fabric there she tells me to come back with pictures of my finished product and she oohs and ahhs over it - she's so sweet. You can tell everyone that works there loves sewing. It feels like you're talking to friends who just happen to work there and love crafting like I do. I'm going to end with the superficial lol. It is so cute inside! It's on the smaller side but feels huge the way they have it designed. The lighting is great; there's hardwood floors; it feels very upscale. I especialy love the sewing machine section because they are placed on Koala sewing tables. That is my dream sewing table. And something so expensive needs to be tested in person first. I used to have to drive far out of Chicago to a suburb to find a sewing store this fantastic. It's a neighborhood gem and I'm so thankful it's here.

I thought I'd reviewed Thimbles!…read more If you're into sewing, embroidery or especially quilting this is the store for you. It's large, attractive and laid out nicely. They have good quality fabrics and especially good quality thread. They repair sewing machines, so when the old 1960s Kenmore machine I bought needed a cleaning and adjustment I brought it in. It was returned cleaned, oiled and with a new correct needle. I also purchased a set of needles for different things. I mostly just mend clothing, but I have a periodic older visitor who uses the machine for her quilting projects, so I wanted it to be in top shape. In addition they sell very high quality machines that are borderline commercial systems you can program to do all kinds of fancy projects. Service here is very friendly. They also have classes!

I've been traveling down to Thimbles for a few years now. Had machines cleaned and meeting up with…read morea friend in the past (we enable each other.) But today I took an actual class on machine embroidery and had a blast. I learned so much and learned how to do things correctly. Being self taught isn't always the best. My intention was to save up more money for a sewing only Babylock machine. But they had a trade in embroidery and sewing machine for the exact same price as the new machine. After some testing of the machine and negotiations with the husband the Adventura II came home with me. For the class I used a Babylock Aria that had ALL the bells and whistles. Thank you so much Thimbles! I will be back for more classes (and machines but don't tell my husband).

Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more I was recommended this place to buy my daughter's dress, and a couple of months ago, we went to see what options they had. When we arrived, the only person in the store at that moment was busy with three women at the counter. She saw us walk in, but didn't acknowledge us, not even a simple "I'll be with you in a moment" or "Please give me a few minutes." We overlooked this because she was the only one working, and we understood she was attending to customers. However, what followed was humiliating. About five minutes later, the women she was helping left, and instead of addressing us, she chose to ignore us, arrange things on the counter, and then head to the back of the store without saying a single word. No "Excuse me" or "I'll be right with you." It felt like she thought that if she ignored us, we would just leave. Since we stayed because we wanted to see dresses, another five minutes passed before my sister had to go find her in the back. When she finally came out, instead of apologizing, she gave us attitude, and the very first thing she asked before even offering any help was, "What's your budget? So I can see if I have something," in an arrogant and dismissive tone. To this day, I don't understand why she was bothered by our presence or why she treated us that way. The moral of the story: give your business to those who treat you well. We ended up buying the dress at Peaches. I had to drive to the city, but the service we received there was outstanding--and, ironically, we were helped by young ladies, not by a woman over 40 who should know better. If I could give this place negative five stars, I would. My intention was to support a local business, but in the end, driving farther to the city was absolutely worth it for the professionalism and respect we received elsewhere.
