I called ahead as…read morea courtesy to let the staff know that she has a psychiatric condition and may occasionally talk or respond to herself, and that she was doing so a little more than usual that day but that she is at her baseline. And her psychiatrist is aware and is changing her meds. I specifically wanted to give them a heads-up so the staff would not be caught off guard or concerned if they heard her talking to herself. She is pleasant, cooperative, follows directions, and has never required sedation for dental care. I was not calling to request sedation, special accommodations, or psychiatric management. Despite this, I received a call back stating that they would no longer see her because they are "not equipped for psychiatric patients" and do not provide sedation. I attempted to clarify that there had been a misunderstanding and that she does not require sedation, but they still refused to continue her care. It is incredibly upsetting that a courtesy call intended to help the staff better understand a patient resulted in her being refused care based on assumptions about her psychiatric condition. Patients with psychiatric disabilities still deserve to be treated with dignity and evaluated based on their actual ability to safely participate in dental care--not assumptions about what they may require. At this point, even if the office reconsidered, I would not feel comfortable bringing her back after this interaction. We will be finding a dental practice where she can be treated respectfully and as an individual.

Frantic to find a dentist that could get mile smile back was all I prayed for. So I went to work getting educated on all the dentist in the area. How many years had they been successful at dentistry? What equipment did they have on site? What were their direct verbal recommendations/ options for me and why ? When I found out that there was new technology, "3D Image Scanners" that cost $250,000 and only 4 were in use from Naperville, Aurora, Plainfield & Oswego areas and here is one right in "Downtown Dental," I was floored. That meant that so many other dentists were NOT utilizing todays technology because these are too expensive. After talking to so many dentist they reluctantly admitted utilizing this new computer imager to: "build the tooth," selecting the perfect implant and then mapping it to a "guided" install takes almost ALL margin of error out. The result perfectly placed, sized, shaped teeth giving me the best smile in my life. All of my family now see Dr. Mohan and even many of my coworkers. Hands down they have the best balance of technology, service and value.

I was beyond impressed with the level of care his office took for the whole process in 2020 when we initially met. From taking a plethora of x-rays to fully understand the gravity of the situation to bringing my case to other top oral surgeons in the US to convene on the best course of action (with my consent), I have been constantly blown away. During my first surgery, he understood the level of trauma that I had experienced and his team treated me with the highest level of bedside manner and care. When I left the office, they gave me all needed medications so I would not have to stop on my long drive home, and even gave me a DQ Blizzard to enjoy later! I still feel like that's magical in some way, I can't figure it out. When my other implant failed this year in 2024, I knew that there was only one surgeon who I would trust to handle this matter for me again. I called Dr. Frank's office and made them aware that I live 10 hours away, but needed them to help stop the damage spreading in my mouth. They got me in that Friday for a consultation, and the following Monday to remove the implant and do bone grafting. While the process is never fun, they treated me with care, listened to my story and empathized on a high-level, and even dabbed my tears as I emotionally coped during the surgery. Dr. Frank's office proceeded to call me the day after the surgery to check on me and answer any questions. They had been very thorough with me prior to the surgery with specific questions, and gave me several sheets relating to healing, but this gave me an opportunity to ask about issues relating to my other dental appliances, when I could resume drinking caffeine and using straws, and more. After the INCREDIBLE care and urgency and understanding shown around this nightmare of a malpractice case caused by Dr. Vaiana of IVOMS, Dr. Frank has been a miracle in restoring my smile. I would share the before photos of the other spot, but Google flags it due to the gross nature of it because it was REALLY bad. It is honestly shocking that my teeth and gums look as beautiful as they do, and it's because of the amazing work done by Dr. Scott Frank of both NoviSmile and NorthShore Smile Surgery. Their offices are gorgeous, the services are abundant, the technology is top-of-the-line, and the care provided to the patients is second to none. I don't care where I live in the world, I will always ONLY see Dr. Frank to handle dental matters. As a former dental professional myself, I wouldn't trust any other oral surgeon at this point. Trust me when I say that oral surgery isn't something to bargain shop on, and Dr. Frank will make sure you are cared for properly the first time. Don't be like me and end up $30,000 down the road and 10 oral surgeries to replace two teeth because of my need to shop locally and affordably for services.
