BEWARE! Last year I was looking for a dentist in the area. After arriving at the office I was asked to purchase dental insurance from the office. I took the paperwork to look it over, then went in for X-rays and cleaning. After finishing up, I was informed that I owed over $300. I said, but I have my own insurance. Was then told 'we don't accept any insurance'. First, no one indicated this to me either when I made my appointment OR when I arrived at the office. Second, as I stated, they were listed as an in-network dental office on my insurance company website. Now, I would think that a dental insurance that accepts 'no insurance' would state this on the phone, or certainly upon arrival for the appointment. Nope. The woman at the desk proceeded to BLAME ME for not telling her that I HAD insurance because if I had, 'none of this would have happened'. The woman at the desk - LISA - neglected to ask ME for my insurance when I arrived. In my opinion, any dental office that has a policy of accepting NO INSURANCE should make that crystal clear up front. Also, it was THEIR responsibility to remove their office name from my insurance website's list of in network offices. I did my due diligence and this office failed (miserably) to do theirs.. And you tell other people. As for insurance? Most plans cover at least a portion if not all of periodontal treatment, and Dr. Hatam's office will submit the bill to your insurance. But honestly, even if mine covered nothing, I wouldn't care. Getting rid of cancer linked, dementia linked, inflammation causing bacteria is priceless. If I could go back in time and tell my non flossing self (yes, I'm embarrassed to admit I was never a flosser) what we now know about the oral microbiome, that it's just as important as your gut microbiome for overall health and cancer prevention, I would. But I can't turn back time. What I can do is take action now, and Dr. Hatam made that possible. Find her. Keep her. You won't regret it.

They try to charge you upfront prior to submitting to your insurance, lie to your face that insurance denied the claim (it was denied because the "claim" was integral to the procedure and no separate payment was applicable), and try to charge you beyond insurance negotiated rates by calling it an "upgrade". Take a printout of your insurance EOB and compare with their itemized invoice prior to paying anything!
