I saw on yelp that this DLS location at the Japanese Culture Center had a 4-star rating so I decided to give it a try. I came early on a Saturday morning and I pulled a ticket after entering the glass door. I was next up. I sat for a few minutes and a tech came out and called my number. I had my ID and insurance card in hand. I had Fumie and she was very good. She made a copy of my documents and pulled up the items my doctor requested. It took her awhile to find my vein but she was very patient and she made sure a vein was there before poking a needle in. I've been to other DLS locations where I'm poked once and nothing, then they do it a 2nd time; I hate that. The interior of this lab is very clean and it looks new or at least well kept. There is 1 restroom and in the mornings because so many people are there, you just wait for your turn for the urine sample. The techs are very efficient. The parking inside the JCC garage was free and no validation is needed if it's under 1 hour. It was a short walk from the parking to the elevators and you take it down to level 1 where the lab is. read more

Very busy place, but if you plan visit for early am, its pretty quick, parkings not a problem then. By 8-9 am until 4 pm or so, hard to find parking. Techs are good, usually relatively painless/quick. read more

My husband comes here to get his blood tests done so I opted to come in bc it was nearby. I didn't expect such a long wait during the week but I had to take a number and wait outside for nearly 2 hours. And since it was a weekday you have to pay to park, no validation stamps were given. Finally I was in and my 2 star was not only for the lady who pulled my blood, but also how long I had a bruise from her 'fishing' for a vein. I do not like getting my blood taken and hate needles so it was a very unpleasant experience. I left with a bandage on each arm and bruising for 2 months. Now that it's 2021 and in the midst of a pandemic, things have changed, understandably. - only 3 people allowed in the waiting area (if full you have to stand outside) - take your temperature reading after you walk in (touchless) - when your number is called, place your ID, ins. card and parking ticket on the counter - mask required Since there were a lot of people here at 7:15, it took me over half an hour to get in and out, therefore I had to pay $2 for parking. Therefore if you pull to the front and you see a line of people waiting outside, you may need to pay $2 for parking (validation is only good for 1/2 hour) or park on the street. I think ALL phlebotomists deserve a hand for what they do. Its not always appreciated because we dislike being poked right? PLUS, I'm a tough draw. Frequently takes two pokes sometimes as many as FOUR! By then the poor 1st phlebotomist (with best intentions) usually resort to calling that one with the super powers, xray vision to find my hiding, rolling vein! Almost always leads to using butterfly on my hand but I never ask..I just allow them to do their job. One phlebotomist was so funny, she said..tell them "go center, go deep"! Sounds kinda like football terms to me!! I listened and thats what I tell them. One phlebotomist said she listened to that and admitted.." I went in blind" ...as in blind faith? She couldn't feel any vein. She GOT IT 1st crack!! She said you oughta tatoo that spot! 1st time at this JCCH branch. It was great despite being shorthanded by 1 person I was still in & out in less than 30 min When you exit elevators Turn right Head up the stairs (going towards beretania) its on the left Friendly, efficient, great service! Update, 3 people ahead of me and it takes longer than 30 minutes (they only give 30 mins free parking validation). So you have to pay $2 for parking. Bring a jacket as inside is on freezer blast, this is even with two of the air vent boarded up. But it's good for these 90 degree summer weather. It is not really DLS' fault, I think JCC is tight @ss on parking and they won't fix the ac. People at DLS are nice, it's not their fault for the time it takes as they have to type up and input everything into the computer accurately. One star for the parking and freezer blast caused by JCC, if DLS moves out there goes their money maker, not sure why JCC doesn't accommodate DLS more. read more

Getting poked by a needle is not my favorite thing in the world, but sometimes you just gotta bite da bullet & do it! Recently I went to the doctor to get a routine check up, and my doctor ordered me to go to Diagnostic Laboratory for some blood work & urine samples. It's been a while since I've done this, as going to the doctor is not my favorite thing in the whole wide world...........and when you go for long periods of time without catching a cold, or flu (like 6 to 8 years).........I didn't even think about visiting the docs. I'm blessed with good health.............and if one wants to keep it like that, one must keep up by doing what is necessary when one gets older like me, so I found myself at the Diagnostic Laboratory (Moiliili location) this morning. This location is pretty easy to find, as the lab is located in the Japanese Cultural Center - (JCC) on the bottom floor. The hours of this lab runs from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM Monday through Saturday..........Sunday they are closed. Parking is very easy, as there is a large parking garage............pull a ticket as you go into the parking garage, and Diagnostic Laboratory will validate your ticket after doing your business, so parking is basically free! Yay for free parking! So upon entering the lab, I basically pull a number from the desk, then you gotta make sure you have your ID, & insurance card ready and available. When it's your turn, the girl will call you up to get a copy of your information, then she will lead you into a room where they will do whatever test your doctor ordered. As for me, my doc request a blood draw, so they took (4) vials of blood from me, then they gave me a little cup to shoot my urine sample into. Getting the blood part was pretty easy..............one little needle prick, and I filled the (4) vials pretty easily. I found the harder part of this was giving the urine sample............because if you already went in the morning, producing more samples could be rather difficult, especially if you didn't drink too much in the morning. So the funny thing about all of this was........the girl gave me a little cup & marks the cup to tell me how much of a urine sample that she needed from me. She also gave me a sealed wet wipe, which I promptly asked her - "Eh, so if I miss the cup, da wet wipe is fo' clean up my hand?" She then tells me - "no, you have to wipe your junk, before you shoot your load in the cup!" Ooops, my bad! Took me a little while, but eventually I got it done. The whole process probably took me around 15 to 20 minutes max., not bad at all............it was pretty fast, & painless! Just the way I like it! read more

I really like this location because it opens at 6:00am and making it so easy to get whatever you need done before work. I came here on a Wednesday Morning at 6:30am and was pleasantly surprised to find no one waiting. Presented my insurance card, ID and took a seat in the chair. Two vials of blood and 5 minutes later I was on my way! Fast,Efficient and Painless...well almost painless..lol! Beware of this lab. I went here recently and there was only one person waiting so I thought it would be quick. However, due to their incompetence they kept me there over 30 minutes. Their validation only last 30 minutes and they said too bad even if it is their fault you have to pay for time over the 30 minutes even if it is an hour and a half. They couldn't find the person at Straub who ordered my lab work although they said that person was in the system before. They slowly entered the information into their system after calling 3 times and refused to draw my blood. They called the main office and left a message so I even gave the department's phone number to call. After calling them they still couldn't figure it out. My lab papers were in their possession for 3 days before I came in to have my blood drawn. Twenty minutes passed..Tick tick tick.... They had the person who didn't know how to draw blood wait on me with the supervisor. I told them I was running out of validation time. Too bad for me. All they could say was "sorry". I asked for butterfly needle and the person said it is the same size as other needle and kept checking both arms and had supervisor check spot. Since she didn't take out the butterfly needle I mentioned again I wanted butterfly needle. Then she took one out and she put alcohol on the spot again and checked arm and spot again and finally drew my blood. She moved very slowly. I ran out of the lab to parking lot and had to pay 2.00 for their delay. Beware of this lab and only go if you want slow service and pay for parking. They used to be efficient but have definitely gone downhill. Who cares if they take a long time it's not on their dime. Customers have to pay for their delay. I have to find another lab where customers matter. I still have a 1 inch bruise on my arm 3 days later from the needle. Just disappointing. I sent Diagnostics an email but no response.... read more

Just heard that this location is back open again and decided to head here instead of the DLS location I usually go to near my workplace. I got here on a Saturday at around 9 am and thankfully only needed to walk here! They do offer validated parking for a short time, so that is very helpful. I had a minimal wait and the technician was able to draw my blood quickly did all the procedures to confirm it was me. Will update to see if they were able to mail my test results to me without problems. I know the DLS location I used previously seemed to have problems updating to my doctor and didn't take one of the tests he asked for specifically. I'm hoping this location will be different. In any case, this is a convenient location for me since I just need to walk to get here in the morning. They are open again, but if you are concerned they may close down due to testing for COVID you can call their office to double check. I called and got the voicemail with open hours, but that just confirmed for me they were open at the location. read more

The technicians are the nicest and the ones that I have known for years and have drawn my blood for my lab tests have never missed my veins. I am a very hard stick with rolling veins, so I know if you have a technician that is not experienced, I can be poked several times before the technician is able to draw any blood for my labwork. The only thing that I wish is that their hours extend to the afternoons. They close at noon. It would be nice if they closed at 2. read more

Move over Junko, make room for Kim, who is hands down the best phlebotomist I have ever had. She is totally painless I had to remove my bandage after she drew blood to see if it actually happened! There was a speck of red but I had to put on my glasses to find the puncture mark on my arm. As a confirmed needlephobe I was amazed I didn't feel a thing, literally! Ask for Kim if you go here, and Junko and Annie are great too. Great place, fast (I went at 7am Thursday) and clean, but no grace periods for parking anymore - $2 for the first half hour. Still my lab of choice, though, with wonderful personnel. read more

I got cut by four elderly people who obviously come here more often and know the procedure despite already standing in line for thirty minutes before them. I guess the time I last reviewed this place was a one time bad incident. It happens to the best of us. I've since returned to JCCH DLS several times for my routine blood work, and service has been fast and friendly. I'll be honest, if there was a DLS open after work hours for me, I would just go there, no matter where it is. I don't need to fast for my blood work. But since they do not exist, I need somewhere quick, and close to work that allows me to be sitting at my desk by 6:45am. For people living in this area this location can't be beat. The parking lot is also very convenient. There are plenty of stalls available early in the morning in the JCCH parking structure, and DLS will validate your parking for you for 30 minutes, which should cover your visit. If it ends up taking longer, ask nicely and they'll give you another sticker. After parking, if you go really early in the morning, and the metal gates are still pulled down and you can't get to the front of DLS from inside JCCH, there's a ramp with a white one-way gate door at the end that you can exit through. That's what I had to do on this early Saturday morning so I could be first in line, not have to fight the other people, and catch a flight! Thanks for the quick service JCCH DLS! "Change is inevitable" I have had the good fortune the last 10 or so years to use someone at DLS Kahala to do my blood draws for physicals with a minimal of stress. When you have small rolling veins, getting poked by a needle can be an adventure. Case in point: prior to using this particular gal at DLS at Kahala, everyone was having trouble finding my veins. One time they poked me 5 times and they still couldn't get my blood. So my angel at Kahala got me through it all for those many years until last week I found out she has left to go to bigger and better things ( have to say "congrats Sistah"- with tears in my eyes ). So there I was this week at DLS Kahala, walking into a room with uku billion souls waiting to be serviced, after about 45 minutes and overhearing someone behind the counter say, "she'll be in later when she can" - instant realization- they're understaffed, under stress, not in the mood to handle small rolling veins. So after consulting Yelp I decided to chance'm with DLS Moiliili. Now a word about this location- they are located in the JCCH bldg on Beretania st and offer validation with a nice amount of covered parking. They have about 10 comfortable seats and being too hot is not an issue (evidently their thermostat isn't working properly so it's pretty cold). The customer volume appears to be lower than Kahala (of course could have just been lucky) but more importantly they talked to me every step of the way and assured me they would not poke unless they were pretty confident of success. Now this new gal took two pokes to get me through but she was extra careful, no bruises and was very reassuring. Sometimes we are forced to change because of circumstance, I'm glad I have found my new "go-to" person. And based on what I have heard from others and what I saw and heard, I would chance'm with other workers there too. read more

I had a traumatic blood test at a hospital as a kid. The couldnt find my vein and it hurt a lot as they just scratched and dug in my arm, so now I'm terrified of blood tests. But this was super easy!!! The staff was so nice and when I let her know about my hard-to-find veins, she was careful. I can't believe how fast and relatively painless 3 whole vials of blood was! So relieved... I guess this is how blood tests are supposed to go. I think the person who did it was Junko? No wait either. She drew 14 vials this morning and I normally feel dizzy and sometimes even faint but she had me laying down and talked to me to distract me the whole time. Park in lot after 6 am and try to be one of the first in line--meaning you have to beat all the super-organized, anal-retentive, elderly Japanese folk and their deft caregivers who got up at 4:30 to race to get inside the doors by 6. I think the JCCH validation covers only a half-hour for free, but the staff here move quickly and efficiently. Of course, some MUST park across the street at Longs Mo'ili'ili (not sayin' it's okay). Around 5-6 chairs and not a lot of standing room. We were there are 7, felt like losers, as about 8-9 old and middle-aged Asian folk were before us. I stood outside. Cute office, very capable staff, fast turnaround. The girl who took my samples got the vein at the first prick (important; I can be a "hard stick") and filled 5 bottles smoothly without much discomfort or pain. If you can't pee enough in the cup, it goes home with you with a plastic ziplocky bag, which you're to return within 12 hours of depositing it, or fridge it then bring the yucky stuff in. Next to Kaheka medical/professional bldg. and Kahala by the YMCA, one of the few DLSs in town opening at 6, not 7. The former has sucky paid parking (though lotsa stalls on the street at that hour), and the latter's a little inconvenient unless you live in that tony area. So this is a good compromise as an urban location that gets an early start. Fugly golf ball doggie decorations on the reception counter are kinda adorbs, a small comfort for donating your genetic materials to the medical gods. read more

I have driven by the Japanese Cultural Center for years and never noticed this was located here. It's located next to the gift shop, validated, free parking. I went on a Friday at 7:30am and there were just two people that came in while I was there. The staff said it was crowded and full earlier, but I was in and out in less then ten minutes. The phlebotomist only did one prick, and I was done in a couple minutes with the blood work. I will definetly be using this location for my future needs.
