The facilities and the views are gorgeous. My dad lived in the memory care ward for about a year…read more In that time, I felt that the caregivers were absolutely fantastic with him. They were kind and as attentive as possible given chronic understaffing and staff turnover. If I was rating this place just based upon quality of caregivers who fostered wonderful relationships with my grumpy father, it'd get a perfect score. However the administration had such regular turn over that I felt a lot of things slipped through the cracks, including having adequate staffing of caregivers and maintenance staff. Those caregivers and maintenance staff were always on the run trying to keep up with things. They definitely need more of both. Things were starting to slip through the cracks due to lack of adequate amounts of staffing and my dad's changing needs. Things started to get a little hairy when his need for incontinence care started to really increase. Also, he was supposed to be locked in at an all inclusive rate (as when we moved him in their Memory Care was only half full), and they tried to change him over to a point system which would have upped his rate by another $1,000 a month on top of an annual base price increase. It was a lot of money to increase when I felt the quality of care went down due to employee overwork and churn of employees leaving because of being overworked and overextended. I moved my dad to MorningStar Senior Living in Hayward. The level of care was better, the facility just as nice, and the cost was $2,000 less a month. He's since passed away, but I remain happy that I moved him, even if it was only for 6 or 7 months. I do want to say thank you to his caregivers at the Watermark. My dad was a difficult man at the very best of times, and Lewy Body Dementia left him at far from his best most of the time. The warmth I feel at remembering the kindness his main caregivers showed him will remain with me for a long time.

Honestly, don't let the exterior fool you. My father who has dementia, stayed here for a year…read more Within the first month he mysteriously broke his clavicle and dislocated his shoulder. For goodness sake this is the elderly. Their excuse? He fell. My father never had the propensity for falling prior to coming to Watermark. Early on we were told in order to get better care we need to reward the staff by tipping them. That doesn't work, and the staff turnover rate is regular. Since my father stayed there everyone from the Director all the way down to the lowest staff were replaced. And even after everything that happened, they tried to raise the rates. When we first signed a contract regarding his meds and care. We soon realized they were NOT following our instructions. In fact we found out they were force sedation him on several occasions, which was not what we agreed upon. They also were not giving him his medication on time either. An 'accident' occurred every month he stayed there. From slicing open his pinky, to have mysterious lacerations, to major injuries all over his body, to injuries that required going to the ER for stitches. We were always told he 'fell'. The staff were always conveniently unaware he was hurt. His clothes was always missing. They NEVER used the toothpaste we brought. They were unopened when switched him to a different facility. His dentures were never cleaned too. We questioned whether they bathed him or not. Overall, if I could give this place a negative rating I would. I would caution against anyone taking their loved one to this place. Even when we visit my father regularly, there were just too many 'accidents'. One visit, I remember asking about what happened to the director. The owner just happened to be there. My mom asked if she got promoted. The owner said he let her go. Never again would we ever consider ever taking them here. My spouse who use to work at nursing homes immediately noticed the signs of abuse and warned us about this facility. He convinced us to leave here. We don't plan on ever coming back. I would caution you about having your loved ones stay here.

For most who live here the walk is likely prohibitive, probably can be a big risk being alone with no sidewalks. Wouldn't want to fail out there by myself. Seems like an appropriate place to have a car. Hmmm Magnolia is definately beautiful, picture perfect. Outside and inside. It is an relatively small facility, 36 residents maximum. Only 30 when I was there. That's a 17% shortfall. The small size could be very, very good, intimate and more homelike. But here it is a huge liability. Their cash flow is underwater. The 3 hours I spent looking at life there left me totally disappointed, even scared. As appealing as the property is, inside and out, I cannot consider living in this environment. Several reasons. Food, resident's rooms, too many people wandering about looking abandoned, no real and consistent activities to engage the residents, no real landscaped grounds for exercise, no easy access into Danville, no big screen tv in the lounge area, etc. There are some group activities that look really engaging and happy. But still, there are individuals who appear to find themselves completely alone. The staff however, is very friendly and completely welcoming and it appears totally clean and safe. Looking more closely however, the individual rooms are beyond depressing. It feels like nothing has changed in decades. Like a scary motel in a Hitchcock movie. I'm not jesting. The bed I was shown was either from the 1940s or somebody's garage sale. The stuff if nightmares. Magnolia could be absolutely inviting and comfortable. A missed opportunity. Maybe later..... Anyway, as I was preparing to leave Heidi offered to consider a few requests for me such as offering a big screen tv ($300) and plain but large and healthy salads for lunch and dinner. (Assisted living facilities are charging five to eight thousand a month.) Dinner and an inexpensive tv seem very reasonable expectations from over here. Oops, they don't serve dinner. They crank out sandwiches. Got to be that pesky budget. Anyway. Heidi, who is unbelievably charming and full of positive energy - promised to talk with her boss about my requests, incidental as they were, but critical for me, and call me to resolve my questions. Nothing. No follow through. Wow. Another nail in the coffin, so to speak. No inference to the elderly intended. Hey that's me too. Lol. If you are considering Magnolia, share lunch in the dining room with the residents. You'll want to plan dinner elsewhere. Maybe an after lunch - lunch. Where is that big screen tv in a public space. Climbing into or on one's bed to watch tv 24/7 is just unacceptable, at least for me. And please, look closely at the rooms where residents are living. You may find it appealing. Maybe not so much. Food is a huge component of life for residents here. The food is abominable. Seriously. The residents appeared oblivious or resigned. The plate I received was ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE. The management and staff should eat what they serve to the residents. Management 101. The staff, who are all very, very nice, made lunch for themselves while the residents ate. The Filipino lunch (I believe) the staff enjoyed looked totally delicious (and plentiful). Their table was really happy. It looked like a party. Good enough but the residents should definitely come first. And the portions offered to the residents are quite small. Perhaps appropriate for older diners, perhaps not. I was shocked. I have owned high end restaurants (plural) in Denver, Aspen and San Francisco. I know food service. This is inexcusable, Hello... so - pick up the phone. please.

Dr. Arlyn Van Dyke is a true healer…read more I have been to see eight specialists for my pain and after one session with him where he taught me the proper exercises to do on my face, the pain lessened considerably. Note: I was suffering from facial pain for three solid years and after shelling out thousands of dollars on specialists who just scratched their heads in confusion, Dr. Van Dyke just nods and says, "here's what's happening and this is what you do". I am forever grateful to this man. Sure he is "old school", but mind you, this is the guy who taught all the younger doctors how to do things. Yes, you wait, but once you are in his care, he will spend as much time with you, answering your questions and working on your pain. He falls under the category of "G.O.A.T." - Greatest of All Time. If you or anyone you know is suffering from facial pain, do yourselves a favor and DO NOT go get a dental procedure done right away. Try physical therapy with Dr. Van Dyke and see how that works first. Not invasive and certainly less stressful. Also, folks - check out his bio. He knows what he's doing. He's one of the best PTs left out there. Oh, and if you are going to skip an appointment with him because of rude front office staff (which by the way, was never true in my case), then you are missing out on meeting a doctor who can truly heal you. Thank you so much, Dr. Van Dyke!

They don't post business hours anywhere, no website, won't pick up the phone if you try to call during business hours. Extremely unprofessional and overall an unnecessarily unpleasant experience. Too bad because the doctor is excellent.

My Mom was in distress, she had some challenges with anxiety and depression. We had had some very bad experiences with two of the "luxury" care facilities in the area. They did not know how to deal with her issues and their answer was always to send her to the hospital. Once in Casablanca, my Mom perked up, she was made a part of the family. She went to the hospital once in three years (from a bad bronchial issue). She received loving and attentive care. The home itself is not in perfect repair, and of course the residents are all people who are elderly or infirm so it does not necessarily show well on first visit. However, when you look in each of the rooms, you will see a bright, clean, cheerful environment. The staff is professional, respectful, helpful, and competent. It is a family business and they ended up feeling like family to me. One final note, when my Mom passed and we went there today to pick up her things, one of the staff (I won't name names they are all great) was neatly folding all my Mom's things in perfect stacks for us to take home. Her room was spotless. One last show of respect for my Mom and for our family. Thank you, Casablanca!
