Serenity Health & Wellness Center - Notes to my masseuse from another employee during my massage

I booked a couple's massage as a gift for my husband with the intent for both of us to start out…read morerelaxed for a date night. I gave some stars as he had an excellent massage and that was the top priority for me. I did not know the therapists we booked with ahead of time, so had no expectation of the type of message we would receive. His therapist asked us both if we had an area to focus on and we both voiced that our shoulders could use some extra attention. He received this extra attention, so relieved he was heard. My massage was more like a gentle skin rub and very repetitive. There was no focus on a specific muscle. I would not give a poor review based on this as maybe that was her style. My only other critique during the message would have been that she did not communicate much. When directed to turn over onto my stomach the only direction I received was "I am going to lift this thing". I thought this was odd (if it was my first message that would have been confusing and uncomfortable), but I instinctively knew what she meant. Just odd. I thought maybe she was new. We were ready to leave and felt good about the experience for my husband and had no opinion of my own message experience. This is when my opinion changed. As I was walking out of the restroom, I saw the therapist that had just finished my message visibly upset with her hand over her face. Another therapist was rubbing her back and she said " I am just feeling so sick". This is when I became very uncomfortable and left. It was the only time I have ever left a message less relaxed than when I arrived! Needless to say, not the relaxing start to our date night. I couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling. I called the manager. He said he would speak to her. I have to give credit in that he at least called back and left a voicemail. He did confirm that she was unwell but pulled herself together to take another client. He assured me not to worry that she showed no sign of fever or knowledge of contagious illness to worry about. I would have more respect if this was handled professionally. I feel she should have communicated this prior to the message and left me the decision to opt out or for her to say she was not feeling able to give a suitable message based on how she felt. Instead, she just put me in a position of her going through the motions and after hearing how she felt, I in turn felt bad for her working through that honestly. I should not have been placed in that position. It was very unprofessional for a client to witness. Based on this experience, I don't have trust to return. It's one thing for a message to fall short of a desired expectation, but another to feel like a burden and to be given a poor follow up on an uncomfortable situation that would have been more relaxing if it never happened. Update: I appreciate the response from Dietra, Serenity Owner, acknowledging that my experience was not suitable, as it was not. In fact, the manager's voicemail response indicated that the therapist was lightheaded and nauseous during. Again, I stand by that a professional approach with client experience in mind would have been to communicate that she was unwell, regardless of what, and a poor experience for all avoided.

I can't believe this place has no reviews. It's been here for probably 3 to 4 years and I didn't…read moreeven realize it. Even though there's a large African American community in Toledo Ohio there is not a lot of actual beauty shops that specialize in African-American hair. Yeah you can find someone on style seat that may or may not have a beautician's license but if you're looking for an actual shop good luck. So I made this appointment the first time about a week in advance and asked when was less busy time to come because most shops like this book people two to three at a time. To my surprise I came in and I was the only one there at the time of my appointment. Unfortunately there was a rude person that came in complaining about some braids she got done a week or so ago and insisted on getting her hair fixed right now. My beautician actually asked me if it was okay for her to fix her few braids that turned into an hour and a half later. This person was very belligerent so I really didn't want to get into it about it so I told her go ahead. To my surprise after she got done with my hair she gave me $20 off the style that I got for being patient. I really appreciated that because other shops in town don't really care and will charge you full price or over full price. So the next visit I made an appointment a week ahead again and I did not have more than a 10 minute wait for someone to braid my hair. They are not the quickest folks in town as far as braiding but they do a fine job and the prices are on par with everyone else in town. I will be back

Already a huge fan of their stuff. Live for the "Hey Headache" shower fizzy bar and the honey Epsom…read moresalts! Both work wonders for headaches and body aches. But I also want to give some love to their DIY counter! Making bath bombs is a go-to activity for my 12yo and her friends. The staff is always so awesome, they have so much fun, and for the price, get a big box of custom bombs! We've done this for a birthday party, but also just on a boring old Tuesday, and you can even book online.

This time, I purchased the body lotion, body mist, and body butter in the same scent. While the body mist and body butter lived up to the hype, the body lotion was a disappointment. It smelled like there was no fragrance added at all--more like an unscented lotion, even after applying it twice to clean skin. I called the store, and they told me any exchange would be up to the manager's discretion after they smelled the product to confirm whether it matched the Narcissist scent. Today, I stopped by on a whim while shopping for a gift and tested a new bottle of the Narcissist lotion in-store (something I wish I had done earlier). Unfortunately, it smelled the same--completely unscented. When I brought this up to a sales associate, my concern was dismissed. They simply stated they follow policy and added that "other people think the fragrance is too strong" in the lotion. Honestly, I was pretty taken aback by that response. Based on this experience, I won't be purchasing lotions from here again and will likely go back to Bath & Body Works. I tried to give them a chance, but left disappointed. Suggestion: It would really help if the store ensured better consistency in fragrance across batches--especially for signature scents--and trained staff to handle customer concerns with more openness rather than dismissiveness. Another option could be offering customers a small amount of the fragrance oil blend used in the scent, so they can mix it into products that may be under-scented. Even providing testers or encouraging customers to smell products before purchase could help prevent situations like this.
