My experience at DFL Interiors was lukewarm. The quality of their product is top notch. But their prices and customer service leaves much to be desired. The prices are exorbitantly high, you can get similar product elsewhere for thousands of dollars less. I spent close to $6,600 on 10 windows and some skylights. That is absurd. I came into DFL and was greeted by Maloos. She was very friendly and helped me pick out some very nice fabric. However, installation took forever. It was at least four months before the blinds in my house were completely installed. When the gentlemen came to install the shades on my skylights, they left the walls dirty and with many smudges. Furthermore, in every correspondence with me they referred to me as, "Mathew." I let them know that my name is spelled Matthew. That's a pet peeve of mine, you should be able to spell the name of your customers correctly. It's the details that count. I would not come back here again if I bought another house. read more

I went to DFL to get my sofa reupholstered, after meeting Maloos, the shop owner, who was professional and friendly. We discussed what I was looking for -- Maloos listened patiently to what I had to say, and I gave her a printout recapping what we had discussed, specifying the details of the upholstery job. DFL delivered my sofa to my apartment in about a week, and this was when the problems began. I noticed not one or two, but eight mistakes with the sofa. Attaching photos where I could in my profile. 1) The cushions smelled toxic. We had not been able to sit on the couch for longer than five minutes without feeling sick. I opened all our windows and unzipped the cushions and kept the fan running for four weeks. It still stank. DFL later claimed that it was the glue they used. 2) One back cushion was visibly undersized. The other was visibly oversized so much that I had to forcibly squeeze it onto the sofa. As a result the back cushions did not align with the seat cushions. They were also both overstuffed and extremely uncomfortable and aesthetically clunky. 3) The pipings are crooked throughout. 4) The stitching was so badly done that when I removed the covers, loose thread ran all over. It turns out that they used simple stitching instead of overlocked stitching. 5) I ordered HR foams for all cushions but they gave us polyfoams (cheap, low grade foams) for the back cushions. 6) The seat cushions protruded out of the sofa by a good two inches. 7) They changed the feet of the sofa without asking me. No, actually they did ask me and I told them NOT to change them. As a result, my feet dangled off the ground by a good three inches. (I am average height 5'6") 8) Instead of cutting the foams to fit the back cushion covers, they used loose polyester balls to fill the corners. They claimed that "That's how they always do it." In my experience with the couches I bought, I never had cushions that had loose polyester balls drop all over when I take the covers off. When Maloos and I talked on the phone about the issues, she claimed that mistakes for custom stuff are common (Really? All seven of them?), vehemently defended her twenty years of experience, and cited the number of designers she's worked with. When I asked her how she or her upholsterer could let a sofa with such obvious and so many mistakes leave their shop, she repeatedly said that I was being too sensitive. In fact, every time we pointed out something odd or substandard, DFL would say, "That's how we usually do it." When I asked a DFL associate if anyone bothered to QC the sofa, she replied that "Well, it came to our showroom already wrapped in plastic." Despite having lost my confidence with DFL's craftsmanship and customer service, we decided to give them a second chance and let them fix the sofa since they promised to buy the extra fabric needed to make the fix on their own expense. Again, I recapped our discussion in an email, listing all the things that needs to be done, and asked specifically that if anything can't be done, to please notify us. Needless to say, this did not happen. First of all, they never purchased the extra fabric as they said they would -- I found out only because I had put the fabric on hold and the fabric store sent me an email informing me that no one's made a purchase. I had to chase Maloo's associate down to learn that they decided extra fabric was not necessary (despite the fact that one of the cushions is undersized). In addition, it normally takes anywhere from three to four emails to get our questions answered. This sofa has sentimental value for us, and DFL's poor craftsmanship and shifty customer service makes me never want to get anything custom upholstered again. Good salesmanship does not equal good customer service or good craftsmanship. This is the hard lesson I learned. I am giving them two stars because they did make an effort to fix the problems -- though the pipings are still crooked and there's still a large weird gap where the four cushions meet. Overall, this was a frustrating and unpleasant experience. read more

I am so happy with the high quality drapes that were made for me by DFL interiors. They use elegant fabric from Europe that you don't see here. The curtains as well as the lining and shears are special fabric too- not netting or cheaper looking, these are something I can display with pride because they are well made from the pleats to the installation to the weave of the fabric ... I'm impressed. I had to wait a bit, but was not disappointed with the results. The designer was experienced, kind, and had pride in the work. I recommend them for drapery/design projects and hope to work with them again soon. read more

My parents were recently in the market for a drapery rehaul on our drawing, living and dining rooms. Of course, I was tasked with the details beyond that roadmap. After researching quotes from several drapery companies/interior designers, DFL Interiors provided the most attractive package. As nerve-wracking as the task was, DFL Interiors made the process simple and even enjoyable, from picking materials (blah! what do I know about materials) to choosing among a vast range of drapery styles. Maloos is the owner and designer; and from the start, she was that right balance of professional and friendly. Instead of imposing her own design sense, she helped my parents pick colors coordinated with their home and styles complementing their lifestyle. Installation went as smoothly as promised. Ultimately, my parents are happy, and I look like a boss for finding DFL Interiors. Working with the designer directly made it easy to get what we wanted while staying within my parents' budget. Maloos did all the design work, had fabrics in store, and also had existing relationships with the folks who sew and install. It's as one-stop as can be for interior design. From my experience, this is the business I'd use for my own interior design needs...once I own a home of my own. Until then, I recommend Maloos to those who can actually use her talents and resources. read more

I don't know how I've just now found DFL. These ladies are marvelous! I was looking for a rich velvet upholstery fabric for an antique chair that I've been working on reupholstering and they had options-galore. Of course, they offer the upholster-service, but I was just looking for a few yards to buy so I could bring it home to upholster myself. Their showroom was clean, organized (and fabrics and trims can get messy in a hurry!) but not DFL. Everything is coordinated by type & color, and they have tons of sample books that are not covered in a layer of dust that I've seen many places. The prices are very competitive and they offer a wide breadth of fabric options. I think it's relevant to point out that while the prices reflect this, they don't tinker in low-quality and they don't cut corners, (no pun). I ended up going with a deep purple velvet and I'm so excited to see the finished product. I just can't say how helpful they were. They listened, suggested, and were not at all pushy. DFL Interiors is simply amazing. I started working with Maloos at DFL interiors nearly 7 years ago when i first started to decorate my house. She has so many beautiful fabrics and trim and creative ideas. For example, I brought a chair there and she custom painted it and upholstered it so beautifully with colors and fabric she recommended . She also reupholstered 12 of my dining room chairs in the most beautiful fabric as well. Most recently she created a beautiful cozy enclave in my patio with outdoor curtains designed perfectly so that they can be snapped closed for a warm space free from the wind and the sun. Maloos is extremely professional. She didn't even need to come to my house. I simply took a few pictures and she was able to figure out exactly what needed to be done. She always gets it perfect. She has many years of experience and is very creative. I didn't even pick the color of the curtains. I leave it to her because she always knows what is going to look nice. She has very chic and eclectic taste. The color Maloos chose for the outside curtains was light and actually opened up my space. The job was done quickly and efficiently and reasonably. I went to all 3 for an estimate on a 50's club chair that my puppies tore into: 1. Nice guy, but said the fabric would crumble and it would be $600. He advised I buy another chair. 2. Not so nice guy, who acted like a walk in was a burden, also said the fabric was too old and it would cost $700. 3. Maloos said so problem and she would it get it done for $250 - $300. This company was a waste of time. I showed them the fabric I wanted and after going back and forth they said they could not get that fabric. I then suggested they come out and show me their fabric and take measurements. They said it would be a $75 charge to come and show me their fabrics. No other company charges to take measurements. I would not suggest using them as they seem unknowlegeable and waste people's time. read more

I was so impressed with how my couches and drapes were transformed into totally different styles and they are now elegant! I have had many compliments from friends and family on the end result. DFL also was able to repair torn cushions at a minimal cost. The customer satisfaction was fantastic too.
