I went searching for a real pizza place in Dayton after years of that fraud piazza that is served at Marion's. Unfortunately Deweys still doesn't cut it. I would say it is a cut above Pizza Hut, but pretty similar to their hand tossed pizza. The crust was soft and chewey, which is not a good thing. We tried the Bronx Bomber and one with spinach, roasted red peppers and banana peppers. The latter was ok, but the BB was just an overload of raw veggies and a painting of sauce on the aforementioned soft crust. Overall very bland and uninteresting. Perhaps they were just too busy on a Saturday night to care about the quality. Also, they may want to work on the customer service for carry out orders. After telling the hostess that we had a pick up order she took our name and told us to wait. Ten minutes later she asked us again if we had been helped and still hadn't checked on our order. Oops. I hope this isn't the best pizza in Dayton as others say. I'll keep searching. read more

Deweys pizza is amazing! We were introduced to Deweys by our Realtor the night we made an offer on our house here in the Kettering area and we have loved it ever since. We love the strawberry salad in the spring and the walnut one in the fall (not sure off top of my head of their names), white pizza with chicken and artichoke and their cal zones are out of this world! My wife has been telling me about Dewey's Pizza for 5 years and so this weekend, we finally went. It was a 15 minute wait around 6 on a Sunday - not bad considering the food exceeds the reputation. Our server was prompt and very quick to get our drinks. We ordered quickly and in moments our server returned with plates - one set for our salad and a second set for our pizza. Here's where the wheels could have fallen off the wagon - upon placing the plates, our server knocked my wife's drink into her lap. Terrified, the poor thing scrambled for towels, napkins, etc. until she dried everything. Luckily, most of the liquid shed right off my wife's pants, landing on her feet and sandals - not a big deal. The server returned with a wet towel for my wife to wipe down her feet and sandals - all good. Our Caeser salad came and was excellent. When our pizza arrived, Ben, the manager had brought it out. He had apologized for the spilled drink and also that our pizza had gotten over-cooked - we could start on this pizza, a new pizza was in the oven for us, and our dinner was on him as "this was not a good representation of Dewey's for us and he appreciated our patience." We were very impressed - hence taking time to share our experience and that Dewey's will get my recommendations and future business. read more

Flew into Dayton from Philadelphia to visit the U of Dayton and this was the best pizza I've had in a while - let alone meatball pizza. Crust was awesome, really chewy. Mozzarella cheese had great flavor along with the sauce, and the meatballs added a great touch. read more

I got the calzone and it was about the same size as the 13" pizza that the other people in our group. It is the best calzone I had in a long time. The ingredients was fresh and stuff to the max inside. The only negative is seating is small, so large group is hard to sit comfortable. read more

One of my absolute favorite pizza parlors on the planet! I first went to their Clifton (Cincinnati) location with friends several years back & was too excited for words when they built one in Dayton. The atmosphere is clean & funky with a generous amount of seating in what appears to be a small-ish dining area. The well-stocked bar is another plus & the restaurant carries a nice selection of beer & wine. The salads...oh the salads! I'm not one who normally eats a salad with pizza, but I have to have one everytime I'm at Dewey's! Their house salad is fantastic...spring baby greens tossed in a lovely balsamic vinaigrette that doesn't overwhelm, topped with a sprinke of dried cranberries, crumbled goat cheese and toasted pinenuts. The pizza is phenomenal. The base is a thinner crust that ends in a delicious "puff" of a crust to hold onto. It's light and doesn't detract from the toppings. The varieties of specialty pizzas are vast...and I don't think I've ever "created my own", because I've always found one of the specialties to be exactly what I'm craving. They aren't your typical "deluxe", "pepperoni" or what-have-you style pizzas. The "Greeen Lantern" is always a favorite...topped with artichoke, pesto, mushrooms, goat cheese, garlic, mozzerella & red sauce. Now that "Ryan's Inferno" is a regular specialty pizza (and not just seasonal), we can delight in the buffalo chicken-type pizza year-round! The calzones are perfect for a lunch when pizza just seems too much...but be warned...the calzones are big too! Oh...and yes, they have desserts too. I've heard that they are magnificent, but I've not been able to sample these...I'm always too full from dinner! read more

OK so we ordered Deweys Pizza for dinner to night. Let me start by saying I DO NOT like pizza and rarely order it. With that said every flipping place in Dayton is a chain pizza place where they just try to sell you the cheapest pizza possible. Now this place is a bit pricey as far as pizza goes, but let me tell it is worth it. They actually had more ingredients to choose from than pepperoni and sausage which is a relief. All in all they have like 30 toppings. the specialty pizzas are pretty great we created a pizza and we got the mushroom specialty pizza. awesome pizza guys. As you all know I am on a personal journey trying to convince people that we need a food revolution in this city and country. Places like this help pave the way. dewey's pizza was one of my first culinary experiences upon relocating in the dayton area. my dining companions and i were in the area, and i selected it strictly as an alternative to chipotle, panera, etc in the area. i was initially impressed by the draft beer selection. it was nothing extraordinary, but interesting choices for a pizza joint (think rogue, dogfish, bells). along with the ability to craft your own pizzas, there was an array of custom pies that piqued my interest. after much delay, my group decided to split a 17" ryan's inferno/caprice (the ability to split pies in half is surprising and convenient). dewey's executed perfectly, much to my surprise. ryan's inferno truly was a revelation and tasted like a juicy, saucy buffalo chicken sandwich. service was friendly and attentive. bathrooms were clean. seems like a well-run establishment. some of the best specialty pizza i've had. read more

This is by far me and my boyfriend's favorite pizza of all time (next to Marion's of course). We always get half Green Lantern and half Southwest BBQ Chicken and their both absolutely so delicious! He really loves getting the peppercorn ranch salad (that's his favorite) and I always get the Harvest salad. It's probably the best salad I've ever had which is surprising to me because I'm normally not a fan of fruit, nuts, or cheese on my salads but it's something about the combination of those specific ingredients that is just so delicious. Dewey's is our favorite pizza joint. We love the large Green Lantern...minus the mushrooms but add pepperoni. The crust is crisp on the outside yet soft and chewy on the inside. My DOG hates Dewey's pizza because there is never any leftover crust for her. Dewey's salads are worth getting especially in the summer when they have Strawberry Macadamia salad. What can I say for the best pizza place in Dayton? Tight focus on pizza, craft beer and salad (try the house salad. You won't be disappointed), a fantastic music playlist, all the staff works the entire restaurant which is an idea all restaurants should use, and the best pizza crust I've ever had anywhere (NYC, are you listening?), Dewey's takes pizza and beer to the next level. Try the Green Lantern, the Killer Veggie, the Bronx Bomber, or a Dewey's Original. You won't be sorry. Try all the pizzas because I've never had a pizza I didn't like there. Also, could you guys make the Harvest Salad a permanent addition to the menu? Fall isn't the only time I get a hankering for this salad nirvana... Great place and it's always packed during peak hours, but the kids all crowd around the big glass kitchen window to watch the pizza-makers toss and twirl the dough just like pizza dough was intended to be. We were in Dayton for a huge car show at the U of D Marriott. Dewey's was highly recommended by a local car club member, and he was absolutely correct. The best pizza ever! Stopped in early after visiting the AF museum while the restaurant was not yet too busy. Shared a Don Corleone and a Caesar salad. Both were excellent. Liked it so much that we took another couple there the next night. While the place was nearly full, we were seated right away and again had excellent service--busyness does not alter their attentiveness. Tried 3 different salads (all dressings made on site)--everyone was truly pleased with his/her choice--and ordered a half and half large pizza--some of us had to have the Don Corleone again! Great staff, pleasant atmosphere; to my view this is a well run...a very well run...restaurant. Waitress said they strive to have all pizzas out to patrons in about 15 minutes. Also, plenty of easy parking right across the street, even for larger vehicles. If we were locals, we'd be at Dewey's often, probably twice times often! Will always look for a Dewey's when we get back to Ohio, and will dream of another Don Corleone until then. Thanks Dewey's! read more

If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive pizza date night to have a couple beers and share a pizza, this is an easy choice. I originally wasn't too sure about a chain pizza place, but this restaurant exceeded all of my expectations. First, the service was amazing. All of the wait staff help each other with their tables and workload, and I felt like I was being served by a fleet of folks. I was also surprised by the beer selection which was a mix of domestics and local craft brews. Finally, the food was solid. I split a Peppercorn Ranch Salad and a Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza with my fiance. The salad was a great size to share as an app, and it tasted fresh, not drenched in dressing. The pizza was cooked really well. It was not greasy at all (especially impressive with the pepperoni), and the crust was thick, with a crunch on the outside but soft on the inside. Definitely one of the better pies that I have had in Dayton. read more

The food is pretty good but it's a little pricey. I definitely prefer the white pizza over the red sauce, which I find a tad spicy.
