A tribute Dr. Mirtsching Many years ago, so many now I don't remember, my wife woke up during the night in severe back pain. She had severe pain in her back and it traveled down her leg to her thigh. She was in terrible pain all night, could not go back to sleep and by morning she was crying and screaming. I managed to get her dressed and drove her to the emergency room at a local hospital. The emergency room doctor had an X-ray done and could not positively identify the cause of her pain. The doctor prescribed a muscle relaxer and told her to go home and use a heating pad. So she got home and laid on the heating pad. But the muscle relaxer did not help and by morning she was screaming and crying again. I took her to our primary care physician, which was very difficult getting her there. He could not determine what was wrong and said she needed to have an MRI before he could determine the cause. However, at the time our insurance carrier denied paying for an MRI. Our doctor tried several times but each time our insurance carrier refused to pay for the procedure. By this time a week had passed and she was beyond miserable. She got extremely little sleep and could barely eat. So after a week had gone by, our doctor referred her to a pain management center. So we got her to the pain management center. After several examinations they said they really needed an MRI to determine how to treat her. But once again our insurance carrier refused to pay for the procedure. So at that point she was told they could not help her but knew of someone that might be able to. The pain management center told us to contact this man named Dr. DeWayne Mirtsching a well-known Chiropractor. We called Dr. Mirtsching's office and made an appointment. By this time two full weeks had passed since the night she woke up in pain. She was feeling miserable and could barely move at this point. I got her to Dr. Mirtsching's office and that's when we first met Dr. Mirtsching. Dr. Mirtsching told us she needed an MRI right away. We told him how our insurance carrier had been refusing to pay for the procedure. Dr. Mirtsching said that was 'ridiculous' and told his wonderful staff to call our carrier and stay on the phone and demand they pay for the MRI. About an hour later our insurance carrier conceded. Amen!! So I took her to get the MRI and the rest is history as they say. Doc worked on her every day and within a week she was ready to return to work, or so she thought. Dr. Mirtsching told her she was to come in and get treated and he would determine when she could return to work, even if he had to talk to her management. I've been going to Doc M. for about 2 months now. It has been the best experience I've ever had with any doctor.... in my life which probably explains why I drive all the way from Bastrop. Not only has he helped me with my back but he has helped me with my weight loss goals. I went in and we talked for a little while before he did the adjustment. I really did not feel as if though I was in a doctors office but talking with a newfound friend. He asked me what my goals were with my back and asked if I had any interest in losing weight. I started mid july at 182 lbs with a goal of 160 lbs. It is now late September and I currently weigh 168 lbs and still losing. The office staff is quite remarkable. I really do enjoy my appointments and will never stop going. I almost feel excited when I feel something aching in my back. It reminds me of when I was a child and used to pretend I was sick so I didn't have to go to school I could see myself pretending that my back hurt so that way I can head over to Doc Mirtschings office. Thank little baby Jesus for this man right here. Dr mirtsching has far exceeded my expectations with his caring and even more than willing to help personality. He has helped me so much from getting my back to not feeling like it's just ripping out of my skin to work outs and actually taking the time to listen to the problem and then figuring out the best plan of action to making me feel human again. I was recommended by my lawyer because the first place I went to, Dr. Michelle Paris, over charged me every visit and literally pushed me out as fast as I could say hi. She didnt get anything resolved and just prolonged my pain. So after my last experience I had a bad taste in my mouth for this profession but after sitting down with Dr. Mirtsching all my prejudice was pushed aside. Im so grateful for this man its not even funny also he has a beautiful staff of women who are also great at making you feel like you are actually wanted there. Just from the friendly smiles to great conversation you can really tell that they take interest in you and hope you get well. Since i've been coming i've gained my life back. I can run, skate, and just sit without wanting to kill myself. Dr. Mirtsching has been my chiropractor since 1998. Although my insurance carrier would disagree, he is also my primary health care advisor. My GP, dentist and back surgeon (more on that later) are all recommendations from Dr. Mirtsching. Several areas differentiate Dr. Mirtsching from others I've worked with: First, he listens to the patient and develops his plan of care based on mutual agreement. Second, he treats you when you need it. I've never known him to be pushy or insistent on visits we thought were unnecessary. Third, Dr. Mirtsching knows when a problem is beyond the scope of chiropractic care and has excellent contacts within the orthopedic community. He recommended a spinal surgeon for me when I needed one and even interceded on my behalf to get an appointment for me on an emergency basis. Finally, Dr. Mirtshcing is a genuinely good human being who cares about people. That quality comes through every time you talk to him. Sheila, who manages the office, is exactly the same. Even when I no longer needed chiropractic care afer spinal surgery, they both stayed in regular contact to check on me and see how I was progressing. I started my journey with Doc sometime in late 1987 at the behest of my father. I am a CPA and prone to neck to spine problems. I am a city boy whose roots were firmly entrenched in the country. As a result, I was leery of chiropractors. However, the constant pain led me to Doc's door. What a nice ride it has been since. He brought me through those early neck pains, car accidents, slipped discs, back surgery and numerous other flair ups. With his steady hand, I would enjoy long months of pain free living. I have had a sciatic nerve problem for 4 years. I went to a chiropractor, massage therapist, accupuncturist, accupressurist and still had severe pain. Walking or sitting was uncomfortable no matter what position I was in. A friend's husband told me that he wanted to give me the name of a chiropractor. I told him that I had been everywhere I could think of to try to fix the problem. He told me that he had had the same problem (sciatic nerve) and that this guy did a good job for him. I have been a patient of Doc's for several years now. I first came to him when I had a lower back acute pain issue while pregnant with my 4th child in 2007, and after having gotten no relief from my other chiropractor at the time (who signed me up for an intensiveand expensive month-long treatment involving massage, traction, adjustment, electrodes, etc that only made my pain worse). I was skeptical at first, and in "crazy pain." All Doc did was adjust me, he wouldn't do the other stuff due to my pregnancy. I was back to 90% within a week and a half. Since then, I have come back to Doc (I have a chronic lower back herniated/inflamed disc issue that will probably require surgery eventually), as a maintenance patient and see him every 2 weeks and feel GREAT. No drug therapy and no restrictions. Doc is so personable, has a great office staff, doesn't try to get you to add a bunch of therapies that aren't necessary, works with every financial situation, and really gets to know your specific spine issues. I first came to Dr. Mirtsching 9 years ago with chronic lower back problems. It was my first experience with a chiropractor and I was pleasantly surprised with how much better my back started feeling after only a couple of weeks. I stopped treatment when I was relocated and haven't had any back issues until this year. My current issues stem from stress my lower back is suffering as a result of gaining excess weight. I was happy to return to Dr. Mirtsching and his wonderful staff. They are very welcoming and try to make your visit as comfortable as possible. I first saw Dr. Mirtsching several years ago when I had been in 2 auto accidents in a very short period--neither my fault I might add! I had received emergency care both times and followed up with my medical doctor but still was experiencing back and neck pain. I really don't know how I happened to chose Dr. Mirtsching, but I realized that a chiropractor is concerned with your level of pain and with helping you to get rid of that pain! I am still seeing him on a weekly basis. As a woman in her 70's I tend to overdo and the old back gives out. I have chosen to see Dr. Mirtsching for more than 25 years. For years prior to my first visit, I had what medical doctors called a 'nervous stomach' which made it difficult to eat in certain situations or to keep my food down. I was prescribed muscle relaxants for life - a 'solution' which I couldn't accept. After the exam by Dr. Mirtsching he identified a pinched nerve as the likely cause. After my first treatment I felt instant relief, and after several more treatments, orthodics, and regular back exercises I was totally free of my 'nervous stomach' - free to eat normally and live normally. Doc is my life saver. My husband John and I have used his therapy for several years. We first started seeing him after John had cancer and his back was so bad.Made his day and could go back to work.Later he had a job that he drove a truck all day and He took some time off and went back because it hurt by driving in a truck all day. Having recently suffered a three vehicle wreck, I sought care for the pain, stiffness, spasms, and numbness. From the initial phone call to each visit, the staff is attentive to every concern and symptom. Doc Mirtsching has to be the most adept at translating patient terminology, kind of like going to the mechanic and making that noise you heard and they know the problem. He is forthright, honest, experienced, and focused on healing.. I definitely appreciate his conservative approach and when necessary, referral to the appropriate facility for imaging or secondary treatment. A quality often missing today. I was broken when I came to see Dr. Mirtsching. I had horrible upper and lower back pain, and subluxations down my back, which were impeding neurological function. Dr. Mirtsching set me up on a treatment plan consisting of a series of chiropractic adjustments, and he showed me specific stretches to do when at home. Dr. Mirtsching isn't just a chiropractor. I had never been to a chiropractor and to be honest I was a little scared (about someone popping my neck). A friend of mine said I needed to check Doc M out. I was originally referred to him by a church member and am very happy to refer him to others because of his family values and his Christian commitment. He first worked on my "frozen" shoulder and now I have complete motion. Later I had severe pain in that shoulder and he referred me to a pain management specialist.
