    $14?!

It took me years to return to this store after a bad experience (read my review from over 4 years ago). Well, the cheese curmudgeon is still there! She was one of the first people I saw when I entered the store. She must be related to the owner. Anywho, they used to sell cheese bread but not anymore. Products are expensive - the garden accessories are a lot more expensive than before - but that's life in 2024.

I love DeVries & Co with my whole heart! It's one of my favorite places in Detroit and I always make a point to go when I'm at Eastern Market and it basically turns into a whole day of happiness and joy when I get to visit! DeVries is so unique and you'll be hard pressed to find such a cute place anywhere else in the area. The first floor is filled with the best and most unique kinds of foods around. They have a whole cheese counter filled with really unique cheeses, including artisan VEGAN cheeses! They also have so many imported products (chocolates, drinks, other food stuffs) that you normally can't find anywhere else in Michigan (or can only find 1-2 flavors of it in Michigan). I am very specific when it comes to the types of chocolate I like (I basically opt out of any Hershey-based chocolates because it's all just sugar and no substance) and DeVries is my go-to spot for all my favorite chocolates (Cadbury, Maltesers, Aero, Mars, etc.!) and is also truly the only place that I know of where you can get all this deliciousness in a massive selection! The second and third floors of DeVries are also absolutely DIVINE! Filled with homegoods from small and local vendors, there is so much to browse! Clothing, accessories, outdoor garden, Michigan/Detroit prints, planters, kids items - there's something for everyone here and a perfect place to check out if you're looking for gifts for your loved ones! I genuinely could get lost in here and have spent countless hours. I always find some delicious goodies to pick up from here in terms of food and goodies for my home! I almost didn't want to write this review because this is one of those special places to me where I don't even want to share it with other people LOL! But alas, here I am spreading the wealth! So do yourself a favor and check out DeVries! They're the absolute BEST!

This is a great spot to visit in the eastern market. Excellent choice of custom items for cocktails and kitchen, chocolates, cheeses and teas. You won't find this combination of items under any one roof anywhere! They also have gift items and three floors of stuff! Highly recommend checking them out. They have lots of cocktail related items but no liquor - may be overwhelming then! Go- take you time- taste the cheese! I'll be back- you need to go!

This place is a hidden gem. I was here in the past but didn't really check out its potential. DeVries, located just outside Eastern Market, is three floors of everything from food to clothing and collectibles. The third floor was definitely my favorite because it was packed full of Michigan art, wooden signs, holiday decor, and more. Part of the experience of DeVries is taking the freight elevator to the third floor. This elevator is the oldest continuously operating freight elevator in MI. The operator gave us a little history on the elevator as we made our way up. The elevator is available for getting back downstairs, but stairs are also an option. The second floor was very busy with more art and collectibles. It had metal art, jewelry, clothing, and more. The first floor is dedicated to food such as breads, a wide variety of cheeses, sauces, syrups, speciality foods, coffees teas and more. I would recommend you check out DeVries if you are in the area. You might find something for yourself or a friend/family member.

Best cheese shop in Michigan. Delicious assortment of cheeses and charcuterie and condiments. Charming outside, upper floor and main floor.

It's one of those shops that perfectly captures the spirit of the city while still feeling welcoming, creative, and genuinely community-focused. The location in Midtown is super convenient, with easy street parking nearby -- always a bonus in the city. And if you have time, definitely pop next door to Nest, which they also own. It has the same thoughtful vibe and is absolutely worth browsing plant-centric items. This is my go-to spot for gifts, although I'll admit some items mysteriously end up staying with me. The selection is fantastic: unique Detroit-themed T-shirts, beautiful jewelry, coasters, drinkware, cutting boards, locally made soaps, baby gifts, and so much more. Everything has a Michigan connection, and a lot of the pieces come from local artists and makers, which makes shopping here feel even more meaningful. What really sets this place apart, though, is the people behind it. The staff are genuinely kind, knowledgeable, and clearly invested in their community. You can tell they care about supporting local artists, small businesses, and the neighborhood as a whole -- and that makes supporting them feel good too. If you want authentic Detroit gifts, thoughtful local products, and a shopping experience that feels personal rather than corporate, this spot absolutely delivers. I always look forward to coming back.

The kids were excited. They were trying on the sombreros, looking at the dresses, searapes and other various items. Were they loud? 100%. Were they being goofy? 100%. Were they rude, disrespectful or out of control? No. not at all. Never once did anyone from the store greet us, or say one word to us for that matter. After about 10 minutes a woman approached me, who I later found out was the owner, and told me that our time was up and we needed to leave "now". Obviously I was taken aback. She told me that the kids were being obnoxious and they picked up a pricing gun and were playing with it. I asked her if she had spoken to them. She had not. I asked if she talked to them upon arrival telling them to be careful and she said " I shouldn't have to". Now if this was my store, and I saw a school group coming in I might want to stop them at the door and remind them of my expectations on how to behave, what not to touch. perhaps I might only allow so many kids in at a time, etc. But this woman literally said nothing to us. She met us with a cold stare, ready to find fault. She said, these kids obviously have no intention to buy anything so they need to go "now" Which is strange because I didn't realize that's how stores worked. I thought we were allowed to browse whether or not we were purchasing. However, these kids did intend to buy but after her obnoxious behavior they ran out the door. She quickly followed them and as she got into her car she yelled at them "BYE AND NEVER COME BACK". The employee who was left in the store was super kind and explained to me that the woman was the owner and she gets very upset with school groups. Which Is wild to me because I can't imagine many people are coming down on a random Wednesday afternoon buying overpriced items that can be purchased elsewhere for much less. I'm planning a quinceanera for my daughter in September and we were looking for items to buy but I'm glad to know how this owner operates and we will no longer be visiting the store. Her actions were unreasonable, unprofessional and downright rude. So, no worries, store owner lady. We will definitely "never come back" and we will make sure all our friends know to do the same. * Was brought to my attention after the store owner left that in fact a small item had been broken. Which I paid for without question. Because that's how things work. Conversations are helpful (when they actually happen) and people respond well to reason and kindness
