The tastings were excellent, and we truly felt heard. They were open to our feedback and made adjustments based on our preferences. The cocktail hour was a highlight - the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and our guests were raving about it. However, the dinner service didn't go quite as smoothly. We were running a bit behind schedule transitioning guests from cocktail hour to their seats, and the catering team served all the food before everyone was seated. As a result, our meals - and many of our guests' - were cold by the time we ate. Additionally, wine and water weren't placed on the tables before the food service began, despite having discussed our wine service preferences in detail during a planning meeting. My husband, my dad, and our venue coordinator all voiced their frustration during the event, and it took longer than expected for the situation to be addressed. Some of the groomsmen even took it upon themselves to grab bottles of wine and serve guests directly, which was helpful, but clearly not something they should have had to do. On top of that, far too many bottles of wine were opened unnecessarily, so we had to send open bottles home with their staff instead of saving them for another occasion. That said, our guests still commented that the food itself was good. We just wish the day-of coordination had matched the quality of the planning phase. With a bit more attention to timing and execution, this could have been a five-star experience.

Ordering and communicating was easy, and they even helped me load & push the cart up a ramp. Packaging was extremely organized AND their food was delicious and a huge hit. It's no wonder they are frequently booked out :) Definitely inquire ahead of time, especially for large orders. Highly recommend, thank you so much!

They were so accommodating with my request, had everything ready right when I needed it, and the food was chef's kiss delicious. We're talking perfectly marinated, juicy kalbi that disappeared faster than I could put down the platter. One minute I walked in with the star of the show... the next minute, gone. Every single person asked where I got it from -- and I proudly said: Kitchen Woori! The staff were warm and friendly, and you can tell they really care about quality and customers. They communicated via email exceptionally well! Don't sleep on this spot... they might just turn you into the guest everyone wants to invite to future parties! Highly recommend -- five stars, two thumbs up, and all the happy food dance emojis.

Safia was quick to respond, provided a menu that was well thought out and incorporated our requirements, and extremely professional. Her staff was efficient and friendly as well. That aside, the food was the hit of the party, even the picky eaters (including children) loved it. Garlic noodles, shrimp, masubi, egg rolls, all of it. Even my Vietnamese dad who forgot his dentures loved the Viet salad goi because he was able to chew it lol. Which is a huge compliment because he never says anything positive. Portion size was generous for a 50 person party and delivery was smooth like butter. Wish I had business cards because everyone asked for contact info. Absolutely will be using Mai's Catering for future parties!!! Can't recommend highly enough.

I picked up the tray from San Bruno Market in the Portola District of SF (thank goodness for the parking lot!!). Easy pick-up from a friendly store owner/manager(?). The food is still as good as before. I ordered extra Spam and egg onigiri, but some only came with Spam and no egg; still good, but not *quite* as good!! She also substituted a couple of onigiri for the eggrolls that we don't usually eat, so that's a plus! The tray's presentation was, again, excellent. Garlic noodles were delicious, beef and chicken skewers tender and delectable, cha trung (?) very flavorful, and empanadas yummy! Two of the onigiri are enough for a light lunch, but I tend to eat more than that just because it's so good!!

They're quick to respond by email, easy to hop on a call with, and so organized with the paperwork and payment process to make sure we're all on the same page for the day's vision and expenses. They were also thoughtful in working with our budget. I appreciate that they include tableware and cake cutting in their dinner service. We also rented linens from them and loved that they had color options that perfectly matched our theme. Everyone at our wedding raved about how delicious the food was, and they still do every time we see them! We booked the butler passed hors d'oeuvres and Chinese banquet meal family style. The miso-glazed soy sea bass was the star of the show. It was the perfect menu for our Black and Vietnamese wedding, and they were so accommodating of our guests' dietary needs. Even before the wedding, the tasting experience was luxurious, and it was such a great way to try out their food and service while treating our parents out to a nice meal too. We absolutely loved working with them and look forward to the day when we can eat their food again. We cannot recommend them enough if you're looking for an Asian American banquet family style meal!

Despite being repeat customers who had even referred others, our most recent experience showed a…read moretroubling shift toward negligence and profit-maxing practices as well as staffing lazy and unhelpful laborers upsold at a unjustified premium. First, the invoice contained multiple math and headcount errors -- all in the company's favor. More concerning, the "total" we agreed to in a signed PDF was nearly doubled later in a PayPal request. Several major fees (service layers, fuel charge, taxes, etc.) were never itemized or disclosed in the accounting, even though California law now requires actual dollar amounts. These charges appeared only when the final payment request arrived a week before the event. The fine print includes an additional 20% "catering fee" on top of the standard service charge and gratuity (presumably all 20% in their own lines), yet this fee was never listed in any totals. This structure -- and the lack of transparent accounting -- left us feeling misled. We had already paid a non-refundable 50% deposit, and the timing of the price increase made it extremely difficult to pivot to another vendor without losing that money. Despite being put in that captive spot, we cancelled the contract for a different caterer (and of course they ate the 50% deposit). When we questioned the discrepancies, the owner's responses were contradictory and pressured us to proceed at the higher price. The tone and inconsistency in communication ultimately solidified our decision not to move forward. We value transparency and integrity when planning important events, and unfortunately this experience did not meet those expectations. If you consider hiring this company, read everything carefully and insist on a fully itemized, accurate total before signing.

This was my first time planning a party for 60 people, and I wanted to get it right. I researched a ton of different cuisines, but ultimately came back to City Smoke House because of their flawless track record. Honestly, I wish I hadn't wasted so much time exploring other options because City exceeded even my highest expectations. The party was at a nightclub in the Castro, and the delivery was perfectly on time. The customer service 1000%. They even provided custom cards for each dish so guests knew exactly what they were eating, a small but thoughtful touch that people really appreciated. We ordered brisket, pulled pork, chicken, smoked portobello mushrooms, barbecue sauces, mac & cheese, potato salad, and tossed salad. With an open bar, I didn't expect the food to steal the show, but it did. Friends and family were raving all night, , "Where is this food from?" The next day, my phone was blowing up with texts about the brisket, the mac & cheese, the works. (For the record: I'm extremely picky about mac & cheese, and City nailed it.) My cousin from the Midwest said that the portobello mushrooms were his favorite. The portions were so generous we had enough to host a next-day gathering to enjoy the leftovers, though the mac & cheese disappeared the night of the party so order extra! In a city like San Francisco, where great BBQ is rare, I only wish City Smoke House had a brick-and-mortar location I could frequent. This is a family-owned business that delivers in every possible way, and I'm beyond grateful to them for making my milestone celebration unforgettable. I hope they stay booked and busy. THANK YOU BRIAN and team City Smoke House.

They carry a great variety of Korean dishes, snacks, and marinated meats, basically everything you need. The food from the kitchen is solid and nicely packaged, and the pan-fried kimbap is a must. They also have a wide selection of banchan, which I love. I'm genuinely impressed with how they've maximized the space while keeping it so clean and efficient. I would skip the frozen meats though as they are overpriced. With Safeway closed, this has been such a convenient nearby alternative. I went to the hot food section, conveniently located right at the entrance, and the Korean fried popcorn chicken caught my eye. Then next to it was japchae, one of my favorite noodle dishes. I found my dinner. The crunch on the chicken was addicting! Yet, the breading wasn't thick. The chicken itself was juicy and the glaze was savory and sweet. The japchae was full of veggies, and had a nice umami flavor. The store is small, but they have a lot of items that I can't find close by, like the plant-based beef rice balls. The closest Korean market to me closed, so I'm glad for this one as it's easily accessible by bus and not too far away from my place. I'll be coming back here again soon.
