We sat on the upper floor and it was very neat and clean. Seating was tables and we had nice views out the window. The ride was smooth. Staff was friendly. The shuttle arrived right on time to pick us up as well. The return trip was on a bigger boat. Again everything was clean inside with some comfy couches to lounge on after a day of hiking.

Firstly everything is pretty much always closed. Like even in normal business hours, it is dead. Secondly, even if it was open, they have the weirdest selection of stores. I can't even pinpoint what most of the stores are because they're so mediocre, and they change all the time. It's just like no one really cares about it, but they should. It could be awesome. They could have a cool restaurant, cafes, bars. Or just knock it down, lay down some astroturf and have a mini-golf. Hey, but walk out of the wharf and you're in beautiful Devonport. My advice? Skip the inside and walk down the side.

I.e The faults which other reviewers have listed already; the facade of the building actually has a quaint charm that gels with the rest of Devonport itself. A rustic sort of understated calm that may hear the taunts you throw at it but won't react at all. It fits in this setting is what I'm trying to say. Just like the Central city Ferry Terminal fits the sort of lifestyle encapsulated by 'big city life', this building has a vibe all it's own. And who could give a place such a bad review when just outside it has a patch of perfect golden sand where you can catch the most amazing views of Auckland City. Take some fish n chips along with you, you won't find a better spot.

The newer ferry is thankfully faster (by 15mins I think) and offers a lavish lounge and cafe if chilling out in your car is not for you. There is no extra administration after buying a ticket which makes this trips as hassle free as possible. On a previous trip to Great Barrier by car ferry, one person in the group had managed to misread a midnight time on the group tickets meaning had missed our ferry. We were squeezed onto the freight ferry and shipped back the next day, at no extra cost which was a godsend.

As a commuter, Explore boats are newer and cleaner, the staff genuinely friendly, and there is far better food and drinks selection on board - almond croissant on the way to work anybody? (Don't, it gets addictive). The journey feels far more relaxing. We're yet to see how the smaller boats deal with rough winter seas, but right now it adds a perfect option if you want to catch a ferry approximately half hour out from the Fullers boats. Tip: check out the upstairs indoor cabin- those seats are made for giants.

Walking on Tongariro and taking pictures was the highlight. This is a trip that those that want to explore Auckland should make.

That means a bunch of tourist-oriented routes (Tiritiri Matangi Island, Rotoroa Island, Motiuhe Island, Coromandel), and a couple of commuter routes too (Beachhaven, Hobsonville). Some of these are truly wonderful destinations, so it's great to have a second ferry operator providing access to them. Tiritiri Matangi is probably the best known, and makes for a great day trip or overnighter - it's a bird sanctuary island with great nature walks, panoramic vistas and beaches. The 360 vessels are generally smaller than the Fullers boats so you need to book for some destinations, but they're fast and comfortable and the service is a bit more personal so that's nice.

The electric bikes were fantastic! We had a great time exploring the main sites and the electric assist helped us get up the steep hills. You end up feeling like a determined demon as you lean in to make your segway go faster, and like a BOSS when you manage to stand on it, hands free to take photos. Yeah. Thoroughly recommend it, and, just a tip, if you are thinking about walking up to the summit of Mt Victoria. Don't..It's a killer hike. Get a segway instead! I wish we had!
