We took this 6.5 hour tour (including round trip ferry ride) to Waiheke Island. Ferry departed from and returned to the ferry terminal in downtown Auckland. We went to three wineries and an olive oil ranch. Philippe, our driver, was entertaining and gave clear instructions about how much time we would have at each stop. The first stop was at Stony Ridge Winery where we had lunch (quiche, bread, and salad) which was tasty. All dietary needs were accommodated and we tasted two wines. Next stop was Rangihoua where we learned things about olive oil I never knew before (including that once Extra virgin olive oil is more than two years old, it is downgraded to virgin olive oil and then olive oil, that you should look for free fatty acids less than .8, that Italy's (and most of Europe's oils are not regulated). We then tasted three different extra virgin olive oils, a chutney, and a spread. All were delicious. Next stop was my favorite - Casita Miro, a small winery where you will not find their wines any place outside of the winery. Meander gave a spirited presentation and the Spanish tile work was gorgeous. The wine descriptions were very funny, we learned how to correctly pronounce Gouda, and the presentation of the tasting was very classy. Our final stop was Mudbrick Winery which offered sweeping 360 views. We tasted three wines. The ferry ride was pleasant. I'm generally not a fan of large bus tours and the bus tended to be hot, even when we opened the vents. Other than that, this was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon on Waiheke Island. It should be noted, however, that this tour would not be suitable for those with mobility issues. There were many steps and a hill climb at the last winery.

A dark muddy road where we waited 45 mins wait for the last bus to pick us up for the ferry.

This is specifically regarding the Hop On Hop Off bus tour on Waiheke: DO NOT do it! Bus blew right past us at stop and only comes around once an hour. We ended up taking it only twice and walked miles between vineyards and the town and was seriously worried if one was going to stop to pick us up at Cable Bay to get to the ferry in time. That was the entire day. Walking and hoping the bus actually stops where and when it's supposed to. Quite possibly the worst vacation experience I have ever had. Representative Anuj wrote us back offering us free tickets back to Waiheke but most vacationers won't be able to take a second day to go back. Hop off and good luck getting back on!

Toured the harbor in Aukland leaving at 1:30 from the wharf. Nice 2 hour cruise with various history lessons and points of interest.

Being just a recent transplant to Auckland, the whole idea of taking a ferry as a form of transportation is still a real novelty! Many commuters take the services from the North Shore into the city to save on transportation costs and to avoid the traffic coming in over the Harbour Bridge. It's a whole different world out on the water, and there's nothing better than standing out on the deck of the ferry, with the wind in your hair as you come into Auckland city to dock and vice versa. Having family in Devonport, I am a regular fixture on the ferry service and find it so efficient and enjoyable. I mean since when is public transport actually enjoyable I ask you! If you tire of the views up on deck you can head down below, find a sweet window seat, grab a coffee or snack from the little cafe and just enjoy the ride.

Fullers are Auckland's main ferry company, with a large fleet of catamarans running out of the Downtown Ferry Terminal on Quay Street. They run a variety of commuter and tourist services to the North Shore, the islands of the Hauraki Gulf and even East Auckland. Perhaps the most popular routes are the ten minute pop to Devonport which runs every half hour, and the Waiheke Island service which runs on the hour. I don't even live near a ferry wharf, but I'm constantly finding excuses to take the ferry into town - there isn't a more blissful way to commute. Two small gripes though. First, Fullers basically hold a monopoly over the ferry business in Auckland, so in the absence of competition they need to watch their prices. Second, they need to make more of an effort to integrate in to the HOP card scheme to make it easier for commuters needing to link to a train (or in future, bus) - the current HOP discount hardly warrants using one.

I thought the service Fullers provided to Waiheke Island was pretty good! Ferry + 1.5 hour bus tour cost roughly $57nzd. The ticket also gives you unlimited bus useage across the island. Glenn was a great tour guide and we got off at several points along the way to have a quick walk along the beach or grab some photos or a drink. For food I would strongly suggest The Local at the main centre of Waiheke. Best burger I have had in my life.

It's amazing that in as little as 30 minutes you can be on a beautiful island in our harbour. Each one has something different to offer and Fullers is your ticket there. The ferries run all the time, are very easy to use and are relatively cheap. We sometimes just pop over to Devonport for lunch and are back before we know it. They also help with traffic, plus who wouldn't want to start their day out on the water? They have little cafés on board, the coffee isn't amazing, but there's a great selection of wine, beer and cider. If you're going to Waiheke you should definitely try the Waiheke Cider, it's locally brewed and tastes amazing.

Firstly everything is pretty much always closed. Like even in normal business hours, it is dead. Secondly, even if it was open, they have the weirdest selection of stores. I can't even pinpoint what most of the stores are because they're so mediocre, and they change all the time. It's just like no one really cares about it, but they should. It could be awesome. They could have a cool restaurant, cafes, bars. Or just knock it down, lay down some astroturf and have a mini-golf. Hey, but walk out of the wharf and you're in beautiful Devonport. My advice? Skip the inside and walk down the side.

I.e The faults which other reviewers have listed already; the facade of the building actually has a quaint charm that gels with the rest of Devonport itself. A rustic sort of understated calm that may hear the taunts you throw at it but won't react at all. It fits in this setting is what I'm trying to say. Just like the Central city Ferry Terminal fits the sort of lifestyle encapsulated by 'big city life', this building has a vibe all it's own. And who could give a place such a bad review when just outside it has a patch of perfect golden sand where you can catch the most amazing views of Auckland City. Take some fish n chips along with you, you won't find a better spot.

After living in Auckland for 8 years one would think I would know where Devenport was. I remember calling nt boyfriend saying oh baby we are going to Devenport. He started laughing and told me that his house was only a few minutes drive from Devenport. I didn't know that one could drive there. I was so embrassed as we had just started dating, now I look back and laugh at myself. The day was a bit windy but we had so much fun on the ferry. Walking on Tongariro and taking pictures was the highlight. This is a trip that those that want to explore Auckland should make.

That means a bunch of tourist-oriented routes (Tiritiri Matangi Island, Rotoroa Island, Motiuhe Island, Coromandel), and a couple of commuter routes too (Beachhaven, Hobsonville). Some of these are truly wonderful destinations, so it's great to have a second ferry operator providing access to them. Tiritiri Matangi is probably the best known, and makes for a great day trip or overnighter - it's a bird sanctuary island with great nature walks, panoramic vistas and beaches. The 360 vessels are generally smaller than the Fullers boats so you need to book for some destinations, but they're fast and comfortable and the service is a bit more personal so that's nice.
