Great place to explore in Auckland, great architectural design. Various vendors inside ranging from convenience store to florists. Surrounded by lower Queen St/Downtown and Britomart shopping area which is growing very fast.

Britomarts big problem is none of it's own doing - just the short term thinking of assorted government planners. Trains reach a dead end here and have to "reverse" back out, instead of following through on the city loop the station was designed for. Hopefully by 2020 the loop gets okayed - as the transport network will apparently reach capacity by then. Britomart itself is an impressive building - set within a Victorian facade, but ultra modern inside. I quite like all the new additions to the Rail network, and it's easy enough to forget you are in Auckland when you ride on the network - until you find yourself sitting next to old One Dread. There are plenty of shops in Britomart itself, and the area above where the trains run is a great new addition to the city , with a grassed area with cushions set up which is great to chill out in.

This is Auckland's transport hub. The trains are here (when they're not being replaced by rail buses) and you can top up your HOP and AT cards using the new top up machines. Offering ultra convenience there are two convenience stores within the center, the guys who work there are all really friendly and open both are open late. There is also a Subway so you can eat fresh and still make your train. If you have a bit of a wait there is a seating area with a TV, you just can't control the channel.

This is the train station in Newmarket. Besides catching trains here there isn't much else, but you…read morecan buy tickets and top up AT Hop cards here. For a train station it is pretty good, very clean too. Mostly I go here for the dairies, this is dairy central and with four available my Diet Coke and Jelly Belly's are never far away. The inner courtyard space is good for waiting around for people or trains and new benches have just been added too. There are a few other small businesses which surround the station including a Southern Maids which you almost miss because it is hidden in a corner. All their doughnuts are made here so if you're a doughnut fan this is where you can satisfy your inner Homer Simpson.

Unfortunately, the train station courtyard if full of uncoordinated council seating, almost as disjointed as it is impractical. The shops surrounding the courtyard have yet to be used to their full potential, although they have tried to use the vacant stores in an art exhibition. The train station itself has a help desk, which is rare for an Auckland train station, but oddly placed gates and only one ticket dispensing machine, in what is possibly busiest station after Britomart. At least they have a street washing machine in the courtyard on a Tuesday night.

New Lynn Train Station - coffee vendor inside

Impressive upgrades are still underway in New Lynn at the moment and the train station has received…read moresome improvements along with it. I have welcomed the new addition of a coffee vendor, such a good idea that I hope it remains as a perfect fixture. The New Lynn ticket Office - open Mon - Fri 7 am - 5pm and Sat's 8:15 am - 3:45 pm have some very helpful and patient customer service crew in place as well. One down fall is the lack of new HOP machines near the West side of the station, yes, there is staff to help but for quicker and easier access to make this transition smoother they may need to hear the voice of the public demands a bit more. Perhaps this will be another upgrade in the future.

Very impressed with this set up…read more A couple of years ago this area was a disaster. Such a mess and so incredibly awkward. So I am glad it finally got the do up it needed. It is very modern and the architecture is quite impressive. The layout is great, simple to navigate your way around and there are two separate kiosk desks to help you out. There is plenty of seating areas too, great for while you are waiting. And the whole space is clean and well looked after with regular maintenance. Everything runs electronically for up to date time schedules and so forth. The only thing I don't really like is that the ticket thing is set up at the far end of the platform walk. This makes for a mission If you are running a bit late.

GI is not exactly known for its public appeal. It isn't helped by this Train Station, which always…read moresmells like urine, and there's usually a homeless guy or two hovering around. You can connect to this station from Mathew Felton Avenue by venturing down a long pathway, first surrounded by trees, then through a long subway-like tube (which also smells like urine). There's a fork in the middle, but it has no signs to tell you which way the bus is and which way the train is. So, naturally, you guess, take the wrong one, then miss your transport. Goody. So, really not a fan. If I was filming a creepy scene for a film, this place would be ideal. Otherwise, I avoid it like the plague.

Back when I was a slightly more affluent student than I am now and could afford to run a car, I…read morewould always drive down to this station to catch a train from to get to university. However, unfortunately the carpark here fills up before 8am during the week, so at any other time of day you basically need to stalk someone down walking to their car so you can nab it when they leave. Or if you're lucky, the alley way by the Z petrol station might have a few extra car spaces. Anyway, what I'm basically trying to say is that it is all very well having a train station here, but the carparking situation is scarce at the best of times, so this can make for a very stressful 5 minutes before catching your train as you don't want to miss it and have to catch the next one half an hour later. If you have a bicycle though this might be an easier way of getting to the station, as they have little cubicles where you can store your bike for the day (however I have never actually done this, so I'm not entirely sure if these fill up just as quickly as the carpark). Probably the safest option would be to get dropped off here if you can; also I would recommend arriving at least 5 minutes before your train is supposed to leave, as the trains are notoriously known for never actually coming on time.
