I feel so fortunate to have found Paws First, which gives me the option to have my pets cared for in their own home. The ability to book online makes arranging for pet sitting so easy and convenient. Response time is always very quick, and the rates are reasonable for the peace of mind these people provide. I love getting email updates on how my dogs are doing. Even when they're naughty and get into the trash or have a little accident, everything is in order when I get home and my dogs are happy and loved. **Need to add an update because of one visit in particular. It has taken me a while to be able to write this. Over the Summer, I had the amazing folks from Paws First watching my dogs while I was away for the weekend out of state. My senior dog's health had been in decline for a while, but it didn't seem to be cause for too much concern- just typical old dog stuff. One night, her health took a very sudden and dramatic turn. It was clear that if she were brought in to the the vet that she would not be returning. I didn't want my old girl's last moments to be spent someplace unfamiliar. The staff at Paws First went above and beyond to provide extra care and comfort to her when she needed it most so I could race home to be with her. I am forever grateful for all they did for her.

I used to live on a farm and Jamie would live at the farm while we were away. Now that we've downsized, my dogs usually stay at Training Aces but Jamie still feeds the birds and waters my plants. My dogs LOVE going to Training Aces! They run right over to the gate, tails wagging. Last year, I had to be away for a month. I was very upset thinking about leaving my guys for that long. I shouldn't have worried! Being with Jamie is like being at home for my pups. They laze on the sofa, sleep in Jamie's bed, and have the run of the spacious fenced-in yard. They have other dogs to play with and they all get along. Jamie even sent regular updates and photos. Trust Jamie and Training Aces to give your pet the excellent care they deserve!

Pictures of her playing with a Chi Chua Chua are too cute. But, there were two behavior problems we couldn't fix on our own. The first is that she could go from zero to ten in excitement level seemingly in a split second. When someone came to the door, this docile sleepy girl would bark and run out of control full speed from one end of the house to the other. A 130 pound dog running out of control is a recipe for disaster for grandkids and adults and houses alike. The second problem was though she responded very well to "come" when in the house, it was a different story when off leash at the dog park. We'd say "come" and she would look over her shoulder as she continued on her own merry way. Jamie came to both our home and to our dog park so that he could observe my wife's and my own behavior as well as observe first hand the behavior of our dog. He spent time watching and asking questions. He gave us homework to do between visits. And he thoroughly explained why he gave us the assignments he did so that we would understand why we were doing what we were doing. In addition to home visits, we at one point boarded our dog with Jamie for three days and Jamie used that time to continue and reinforce the training. Now we have the dog that we never in our wildest dreams thought we'd have. When the grand kids are here, (3 yrs & 6 yrs.) she can usually be found lying down maybe 7 or 8 feet away. When their toys are all over the floor, she ignores them. When they're eating at their own kid sized picnic table (right about chin level for the dog) she goes no where near them. And when they pet her, she just stands there and wags her tail. Her biggest fault with them now is to give an unexpected and uninvited sloppy kiss! When the doorbell rings, I simply have to say "hey," and she quiets right down. When guests enter the home she's not permitted to run up and greet them. Only after everyone is in and settled do I let her know that she can now greet them calmly. Now at the dog park, life is good. When I say "come" she stops whatever she's doing and comes. Even if she's in the midst of playing with one of her dog friends, she comes. To avoid any escalation, I've called her away from an unfriendly and snarling dogs, and she responds instantly to my command to "come". Sometimes she's off and sniffing something and then discovers that we're now maybe 50 yards ahead of her and she comes a running! And we're now at the point that there are no treats or rewards for obeying, other than a quick pet and a "good girl!" Jamie gave us the dog we dreamed about but never really thought we would have. Jamie is knowledgeable, patient, insightful, very skillful, and caring. He has certainly found his niche as a dog trainer. We would recommend Jamie and Training Aces, NJ without reservation.

If you are looking for a dog trainer, your search ends here…read more I purchased a 10-week-old Australian Cattle Dog in late September and about two weeks after, we were at our wits end with the dog, and considered taking the three and a half hour drive back to the breeder. From not being able to walk around the house without having your pant legs pulled at, to sleepless nights (or nights spent on the floor with the pup), and not being able to sit on the couch without being bit, it was becoming too much to handle. Then we decided to go to Steve at A-1 Total Control Dog Training. Years ago, I lived in a development with the most well trained dog I've ever encountered. Being only about 5-6 years old, I vaguely remember my neighbors, my house, and even my friends, but I will never forget this dog. While living here, my family got a Great Pyrenees puppy that enjoyed nothing more than slipping out the door and taking off around the development. Luckily, when the trained dog's owner would see this, he would send his dog in a full sprint to circle around our puppy until we were able to get to her to bring her home. The dog was simply amazing, and was trained by Steve. Now, in just our fifth week of training, our puppy is on track to rival this dog from my childhood. Though she is still young and has a long way to go, Steve gives the tools and instruction for everybody to be able to do so, and we are confident she will get to this level of obedience. Do not waste your time or money elsewhere and take your dog of any age to Steve at A-1 Total Control Dog Training. It will be the best decision you will ever make for you and your dog.

So as a responsible dog owner I wanted to correct the bad behavior right away. I was told if weather delays the training they would just keep her longer no extra charge which I thought was great! After the snow and his family got the flu I needed to visit my Mika. Since I rarely got communication from him! Coming out of the house on a leash she was pulling him...she does know how to heel. I got worried but figure well the next two weeks were going to be nice so maybe he'll train her...boy I was wrong ! When I sent her to board and train at 6 weeks every progression was video tape so I could see how she's doing. I felt like I was annoying him by asking to at least send a proof of life photo. He did. He was holding her by her collar to take the picture and she looked miserable! Going into week 3 No smiling mika! Mika has so many dog friends from being well socialized at dog parks a trails. EVERYONE loves her. Except a few who just hate the breed! From the 2 week delay I'm thinking he got backed up with other dogs coming in and put Mika on the back burner, staying in a crate most of the time which she is not used to at all! Issues I had and still do, is her greeting people at the door with jumping up for kisses, thats her nature, also jumping up on the TV if certain commercials came on, pawing me marking my senior hands into black at blue just with a light tap. As soon as I brought her back home . I told her to stay, the other issue she had. I had my neighbor ring the bell to see this progress ...stay lasted 2 seconds. A few minutes later she heard the commercial come on the tv the one she hates! Again jumping on my mantel and growling! He told me how she was "happy and learning"! 2 days before her release date I got a somewhat snarky response telling me he can't change who the dog is...and it was her breed AND age that was the problem. I responded no you didn't!! He said I told you "word for word" he can't change who the dog was! NO but they advertise they are dog behaviorist! He knew her age from the 45 min interview I had with him, also knew she was a rottie and was with me...telling me he loves the breed and was raised with them! This is why I chose him after interviewing another trainer the day I got to visit him! I would have NEVER have left my baby him had I known how he really felt! I'm far from an idiot about my dogs! Had 2 Pyrenees, 4 Shepards, Doberman and 2 horses with only my gelding that was sweet but the boss! I got him a trainer and all was well! A month before she was going to them, I emailed him that I was wondering if you could really train an older dog. His wife responded YES!! So it was no mystery to Rich. He knew too!!! Bottom line, I knew she was in the crate most of the time! And that saddened me! They dont walk dogs off property to for them to get a break from the house as they advertise on the website! He was blaming me the owner!! Say what?! Of course that's why she was there. He told me he to go on the trail I always walked with me to instruct me! Time was up and there was no schedule for this. So I'm back to square one with a dog who was locked up most of the time when she was used to 2 mi walks 2x a day! Always happy! One other thing that's important is she missed getting her nails cut and they were already long. Texted him to please trim her nails "no problem". Got her back took her to the groomer finally got her extra long going inward nails! So I advise anyone who loves their dog stay away from Nora's!! Read the reviews on his site! All great! My mistake was not reading Yelp reviews!

When I picked up my 8 month old puppy she was so desperate to pee and poo, she went on the sidewalk in front of their building. She was so thirsty she was panting and needed water immediately. I sent food but she did not eat there. To compound the problem, Communication is awful. They don't let you into the space. You stand on the sidewalk - they crack open the door and pull her in or give you the leash to take her out. You get 1 email a week with some photos and videos. They don't appear to read the form you fill out and don't discuss goals. I told them that my puppy has had training since birth, but their first video was showing me how to hold a leash. The second video was of a different dog being trained - they said my dog was tethered watching. Throughout the entire video I could hear her crying. No one attempted to soothe her at all. I provided constructive input verbally and in writing by email. Despite my bad experience at the City School, I was still interested in the Farm School. I went to the open house and they were much more transparent about what a typical day looks like there. But before the evaluation day (which is separate from the City School evaluation), they called me to say that they were cancelling the evaluation because I am not a good fit for their program. They said it had nothing to do with my dog, who is a very sweet Labrador, it is because I am not "aligned" with them. They were not willing to even listen to why I thought the Farm School would be a better fit than the City School, saying that the decision had been made "by senior management" and it is not worth wasting time talking about it. Wow!

I have a dog that has obviously experienced some trauma around other dogs, and Erika has been incredibly helpful. She is generous with her knowledge and her time, she has lots of training tools like handouts and videos, and she is a delightful person in general. Great sense of humor, and it feels warm and fuzzy to work with her, which is so nice because often when we have problematic dogs, we don't feel good about it and we blame ourselves. Not only does she use positive reinforcement in her training for dogs, but also for people, because often it is us that needs to be trained. My dog is doing so much better since I started working with her. I highly recommend. I'm excited to work with her more in the future.
