I love DA, I used to dream of sending my daughter there when she was just an infant,
    X A.

I always wanted to go to this place since my daughter was a baby and too young to go, but I started out taking her to date nights the owner Miss Julie puts on. Date nights was her introduction to the loving playful artistic environment Destination Art provides. My daughter started going regularly to DA At age 3 and she was so happy playing there all day with different child guided play activities. She chose when to play with other children or when to do: art, ballet or gymnastics, yoga, and handheld walks around neighborhood to Coit Tower, library and playgrounds. Also the date nights are a great opportunity to spend quality time with the partner and taste some of North Beach delightful food! I love Destination Art and would highly recommend this school for your young child. Miss Julie is flexible with schedules too as you can opt for drop in days according to your timetable.

A hidden gem in North Beach, D-art is my 5 year old's FAVORITE place in town. Julie opened the studio with grown-ups in mind but quickly transformed her adorable space into a kids art studio. She offers Saturday morning workshops often using found objects to create works of art (my little guy made and painted a "robot" out of some milk cartons and strawberry baskets). In the summer she runs a fabulous art camp program at very reasonable rates. And for the grown-ups, twice a month she has a drop-off "Movie night" for $15 per kid! Best babysitting deal in town right in the heart of North Beach. Typically the Movie nights start with a craft, then a kids movie is projected on a wall, the kids have an "intermission" and a snack, the pick-up is at 9:00p.m. My little guy LOVES it and my wife and I stroll down to the street to pick a nice bistro for dinner. Can't beat that! :)

(Without going into detail, the reason was their fault, not mine.) As other reviews suggested, the owners delayed responding, blamed me, threatened me with a fee for the refund.... By the way, there's no way to contact an actual human being in "real time" -- no phone, no chat, just an email. The instructor who gave the lesson was good, very encouraging and clearly a great instructor. If I could rate the instructor alone, I would give a 5-star review. However, the overall experience really soured me to going back... ever. I'll go to the Church of 8 Wheels from here forward.

These reviews completely scared us a year ago, and a year of trying Park & Rec classes and skateboarding camps where our child really didn't make progress, we enrolled here after a word-of-mouth recommendation. Our child has enjoyed and learned so much through his trainers (extraordinaire!), he has gone from wanting to master a skill, to being held back by fear, and then amazing confidence on the skateboard, and not just that, the summer camp is legit one of the few camps in the city where children actually learn new skills, and bond and have great fun - and have good restrooms to use and sinks to wash hands! Private lessons are not cheap, but thankfully last minute cancellations can be 'bought back' with a small fee.

In one week, my teen learned how to make a layered buttercream cake, fruit tarts, cinnamon rolls, royal icing cookies, and more--all from scratch! She loved the experience, and it definitely boosted her confidence in baking. It wasn't just simple baking either--Chef Mo used unique ingredients like coconut sugar and fresh cream, achieving a perfect level of sweetness that wasn't overpowering. My husband and I highly recommend this camp to any budding chef or baker, or any child who wants to give it a try. Chef Mo was so friendly and accommodating--a truly great teacher. We don't have any pictures, unfortunately, because the whole family eagerly devoured everything at the end of each day, even my son, who never likes cake. He claimed it was the best cake he's ever tasted and that we should use the recipe for his upcoming birthday.

She was incredibly patient, clear, and accommodating in both the planning of the event, and the event itself. The food was delicious and many of our team members expressed excitement about making the dishes themselves in the future. She offered a playlist of music, ensured the menu met all dietary restrictions, and even included knife safety and technique for those who were beginners. Perhaps most importantly Chef Mo created a fun environment that was accepting in a way that allowed everyone to try new things and even make mistakes without fear of judgement. We can't recommend her enough! --
