Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast - As well as a "Pharmacy" Charge.. They never prescribed me anything. ‍

When you're on vacation and get a kidney stone, you want to go somewhere where you'll be taken good…read morecare of. Ascension Sacred Heart does just that. My husband drove me to the ER, but I was getting sick so violently I couldn't get out of the care. ER personnel came out to our car with a wheelchair, waiting patiently in the warm sun till the spasms were over. From the moment I was wheeled in, everything was handled calmly and orderly and kindly. It was a weekday morning so it wasn't really busy and I was seen in just a few minutes. I was wheeled back to the ER where the real work began. Now, I'm in pain and there are things that have to be done before they can deal with the pain. I was patient through that. I understand. And what they had to do...take blood, set up an IV, hook me up to monitors, etc was conducted with efficiency and gentle care. Then came the pain meds. One had to be "pushed" through my IV. Having gone to nursing school (but not graduating), pushing a med via an IV is an important skill and my ER had it! She explained all that would happen as the drug entered my body. She kept reinforcing her explanation as the drug began to take effect. I appreciated that! A second pain med had to be administered and by the time I was rolled to get a CT scan, I was feeling much better. The PA in the ER knew exactly what to, popped in frequently to check on me and practically held my hand as the stone passed. The facility was SPOTLESS. All the staff were calm and kind and seemed to really like being in the medical field, helping people. I usually have more questions than the average patient, and each person I came in contact with STOPPED and took time to answer all my questions. You don't want to have a medical emergency when you're on vacation. But I am truly thankful that Ascension Sacred Heart was close by for my needs. Great place. Great people.

People and treatment was outstanding and my nurse was an Absolute pleasure in a bad time. But 14k for the "Surgical Procedure" (a colonoscopy) alone is absolutely atrocious and downright sickening. 0 Stars if possible.

The Nurses were very knowledgeable and thoughtful! I cut my right thumb at the mid-joint area and was afraid I may had done damage. It was a freak accident at a beauty salon. Her internal bleeding went undiagnosed for about eight hours despite glaring signs. Once imaging was finally ordered and active internal bleeding was confirmed, surgery was delayed for roughly seven more hours. In the meantime, the doctor ordered mass blood transfusion in an improper way that worsened her condition instead of stabilizing her, while failing to move the central line that was improperly placed and that the radiologist recommended be repositioned. HCA Healthcare has faced no consequences, and there is no way for people researching physicians through the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the medical licensing board, to see what happened to my daughter. Because she was 25, unmarried, and had no children, Florida's 'Free Kill' law strategically blocked me from pursuing legal recourse to ensure the hospital and its physicians are held accountable so the harm does not continue. I stood 15 minutes in pain while the admitting person continued in the next room to eat her lunch before I was checked in. After checking in I waited 45 minutes for the Doctor came out looked at me asked what my problems were, I showed her my legs and ankles she said ok we will take care of you. This was the only time I ever saw the doctor. (about 2 minutes) I was in the waiting room another hour or more when a tech came to do a Sona gram on my legs. They then sat me in a cold hallway on a dirty gurney with a dirty gurney cover, that another sick person had just left. I moved to a chair right by the gurney . After about another hour a tech came to give me an EKG. and sat me back in the same cold hallway. I waited about another hour and a ex-ray tech came for me. The doctors order were to take an ex-ray of my knee. ????? its not my knee I was complying about it was my swollen legs. The tech asked me to wait while she checked with the doctor she came back apologized said the Doctor had make a mistake they were having communication problems with the Doctor. She then and took x-rays of my ankles and feet. Then sat me back in the same cold hallway I asked 3 times for warm blankets finally got one. They took several blood test over the time I sat there, and after about another hour a nurse came by to release me said the Doctor said I had edema to take and put Lana cane on my legs. I left there thinking what the heck and just wanted to get home. As i was driving home I felt something inside by loose fitting jacket. They forgot to remove the IV. I called my daughter who is a nurse and she said don't go back they will keep you waiting another 5 hours. Since I am on coumadin I was very glad my daughter could remove the IV. A week later I had to go to another emergency room have the same test to find out I had congestive heart failure. This emergency room needs to be restaffed or close.
