I was skeptical at first with all the bad reviews. The care provided was fast, and everyone was so lovely! I would highly recommend this location to anyone coming from someone that works in healthcare and is constantly in hospitals. I will say, there not being a receptionist threw me off a bit but the staff and security guard have a great communication system it doesn't bother me after having been there in person with my husband. Took a friend here overnight for emergency care and the staff was kind and courteous. They were very attentive and explained every detail of what they were doing throughout each step. Dr. Williams was informative and his sense of humor was timely and appreciated. Because of Dr. Williams, I will forever remember what do when someone is nauseous and has experienced a faint spell. I am a physician in Louisiana. We were out of town on vacation and my husband sustained an acute injury to his ankle/foot. We entered your emergency room on 5/24/2024 at approximately 5:30 pm. After checking into the self serve kiosk with nothing but a security officer at the desk and waiting for about 30 minutes a triage nurse called my husband in and took vitals and a short history. We were sent back to the waiting room with no intervention. No true examination was performed at that time. As my husband's foot began to swell and change colors I became concerned because it was difficult to feel a pulse in the distal lower extremity. I notified the desk personnel who was apparently not medical in expertise and explained to them my concern as well as the fact that the sign outside of the building posted a "6 minute" wait time when in fact we had been waiting for a total of 3 hours at this point. They were not helpful. They could not explain or fix the fraudulent time that was displayed. For concern that there may have been vascular compromise to his foot, I called several ER's while there and ultimately decided to leave and bring him to another facility about an hour away. My grievance with this facility is that no prompt attention was taken to even try to bring him to the back (which we did pass through on exit back to the waiting room and all rooms appeared to be empty) in order to elevate the foot, provide ice, ultrasound, x-ray, etc. I am deeply discerned and somewhat appalled by the lack of attention given to the patients in your "emergency room". I noted and spoke to several patients there at that time. It seemed as if there were no appropriate staff there as literally no one had left the ER during this time and the waiting room was full to greater than capacity. Having been experienced in the medical field for over 20 years I would never recommend this facility. read more

Horrible care. Doctors do not care and report false information. Someone coming in unresponsive due to previous health issues and was written off as a drunk and was given narcan when was not necessary. Gave false discharge report with inaccurate information on responsiveness and Okaloosa sheriff was given information that was not passed to hospital. Never have I seen such incompetence with medical staff. Go to sacred heart if you want actual help cause this place is a waste of money. read more

AVOID! Absolutely ZERO stars. My daughter was experiencing severe pain in her stomach, and after waiting, we were told not only could they not do blood tests, they had to have a courier come get the blood and take it to the 'main' hospital. Then, we were the told they did not have the proper equipment to diagnose her, given prescriptions, and told to go home...even when there was no pharmacy open 24 hours. She ultimately went to the 'main' hospital and was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis spending 9 days in the hospital. read more

Sitting in a room now, had no idea what equipment they had to check a babies heart beat, not an ultrasound but a simple heartbeat which a very nice nurse has done for us previously at this same hospital. The nurse we got cared 110% more about her being right even though she was completely dead wrong about almost everything she said and we couldn't wait to get out of here. We had to tell her that she had the equipment she said they didn't have, told us only the doctors know how to operate it, (which is not true because nurses have done this before for us), and also said there was the obgyn we need 1 mile down the road. We came here because we were right here and just needed to hear the heart beat. We were recommended to come here by another doctor at an urgent care just to check the heartbeat and internal bleeding quickly. All was well but the nurse kept saying how we shouldn't have come here and should have gone to the other place. After this experience, I understand the reviews this place has. The doctor was polite helpful and actually gave a crap about my wife and her baby rather than just being right like the nurse was. You can tell she's trying to overcompensate because I called her out on her bill. We didn't come here for her to tell us how smart and right she is about everything. We came here to get done exactly what we got done, making sure our baby was ok. We will never be here again. Since the nurse pushed so hard for us not to come here, needless to say, NOT A PROBLEM at all to never come here again. I have family in the field and I will spread the word to stay as far from this place as they can after the awful service of this nurse. I went in because I'd started to have a horrible pain in my shoulder. I thought it was muscular, and told them so, but they decided they would need an xray. After the xray, they said they could give me something for pain but I'd need a ride. I understood this, but it was going to be difficult as I had just moved here and didn't know barely anyone in town. After the xray, they told me they wouldn't be able to treat the pain until my ride showed up. It took me about thirty minutes to arrange for the ride. I FINALLY got it done when the doctor came in and told me they'd need to do more xrays, saying it looked like part of my lung was missing. I knew this couldn't be, but she insisted, saying she couldn't possibly do anything to treat me until they were sure my lung was ok. Knowing my ride was already on the way, (a coworker who I barely knew), I decided to go ahead and get the xrays and make sure I was ok. After the xray I waited and waited for information and the medication for the pain. Finally I had to call my ride and tell her that I didn't know what was going on, that things had changed, and she needed to hold off. My coworker was upset, and informed me that if she couldn't come right then I'd have to wait until after she was done eating. I had to accept it, as they wouldn't treat my pain without her being there. It was over an hour later when I finally went to the nurse's station to get some information. At this point I'd been there for almost three hours and still hadn't had anything for the pain. And I was now running the risk of being late for work. I was frustrated, and told them so. The doctor finally managed to come by about 45 minutes later, informing me that of course my lung had no holes. I would have to wait for my friend to come to be treated for the pain, and it would be over an hour. In horrible pain. At this point, registration was on the phone wanting information. I was frustrated, overwhelmed, and in pain, and I finally said enough. I told registration I would call them once I got home (they already had most of my information but then we'd been interrupted with the demands for the lung xrays) and give them whatever else they needed. A nurse, having heard I was upset, came in and started yelling at me, telling me that I could just leave if I didn't like their service, and that I'd better call registration right back or they would be calling the police! I called another coworker, told her the story, and she agreed to be on her way. When she showed up, I was finally FINALLY given some pain medication, and I left immediately. I had been rung out financially with unnecessary x rays, told to arrange a ride in order to be treated but then had to make that ride jump through hoops in order for them to get all of those unnecessary xrays, then was treated like a criminal when I voiced my frustration. Not once did I yell, or become combative, or act in any way that would have warranted the treatment I received. I will NEVER go back, and even if it meant my life, I would not return. Six xrays, five hours, and thousands of dollars. It turns out a disc in my neck had slipped and the pain was caused by a nerve being pinched. My lungs are just fine, although I've of course been billed for those xrays despite there obviously being a huge error in the image. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be charged for things you definitely don't need, and treated badly if you object. read more

There is something not right about this place. You will walk right in, but your bill will be astronomical and way out of line with the care you receive. I was charged over $1500 just to walk in the door, $348 for a tetanus shot and $95 for the administration of the shot. I had no idea what these charges would be until I received the bill, and I have insurance. I went here for a cut as all urgent cares were closed in area due to time of day and it is advertised as urgent care online, but your bill will be from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. This will not be disclosed to you until you receive the bill. For the cut on my finger which they were able to glue, I am being charged $5000. This is outrageous. Don't go here. read more

I was initially worried when hearing two nurses and one doctor (at a vacation spot!?) which was further upsetting when a lady that had been here before me for labs (yes they do those too here) had been here for three hours waiting and wouldnt know when she would get back. I waited about 45min tops and was brought back by the doc who diagnosed me within 5min. He was super. Then the nurses and triage came. That part took the longest but that's it. 5 stars for Dr Williams and the staff at Destin ER. We had an open gaping hole in the leg of our 10 year old from a pool accident while on our vacation in Destin. We had went to the Urgent Care just down the road and the front desk gal was super rude and I didn't have the mom vibe I wanted somwe left and came here. Dr Williams took my 10 year old rift in and had him nicely stitched up with 8 stitches in less then 20 minutes. This was service and he was amazing. A local and understood we were on vacation and didn't want to stay hours in the ER. Thankful for great care while we were here. read more

Terrible experience and will not ever return! The nurse was halfway friendly and I thought that was rough until the doctor came into the room. I wasn't impressed by the professionalism or privacy considering they did not close the door when asking personal information. The doctor came into the room, stood against the wall about four feet away and never even approached me to examine the issue. She then began arguing with me and making me feel stupid. She continued telling me I was wrong and said she would give me a medication. They never explained how to use it until I was given a paper with instructions. The hospital registration was the best part of this experience! He was wonderful, professional, caring and always smiling! I was very confused since I had insurance and they had me pay up front so I would get a 20% discount. I am still confused about that and after reading the reviews before writing this it makes sense. I would rather drive hours than come to this place ever again. The sad part is it is in a great location for Destin, although the staff and doctors are very unprofessional and rude. Do not come here. I was hit by an SUV on a crosswalk and the the nurse stopped the state trooper as he was leaving after taking my report that I appeared high and she feels like I had drugs on me. The state trooper came back into the room and offered to give me a ride, I told him no thank you. He asked why. I told him because I don't believe he has my best interest and i don't like to be fooled. He kept pressing me, insisting that I get in his vehicle. I yelled for the nurse and doctor but no one would come and help me I told him my mother and father are on there way and he said I don't think they are and that He believes I don't have anyone or any place to go to and that I couldn't stay here. Then he told me I could ride in the back and I'd be safe back there- it's like a glove- I'd fit right in. I called my lawyer and after I gave Cotton Gates(best attorney ever) the troopers info he left the building. Right after that my family came and took me to my house. I'm so blessed I have a great family who loves me. I don't know what these twisted people would have done and let happen to me if i didn't have my family when I needed them most. read more

The worst ER anyone can visit. Unprofessional staff and rude. This ER is a scam hiding behind emergency treatment. A prescription for an antibiotic pain was billed for $2623.46. The whole checkup did not last more than 45 seconds. It is time the USA government makes all antibiotics available over the counter so regular citizens would not be taken advantage of by the greedy doctors, who see nothing in a patient but the all mighty dollar. The last thing on vacation you want to do is leave the beach and got to the emergency room. However there are times when you have to and you hope for a good service. My instance I was offshore fishing and buried a hook into my ring finger. I tried removing the hook myself multiple times but it was buried too deep. I went online to find a walk in clinic that could easily remove the hook with a numbing agent and a pair of pliers. I walked in during normal hours to 3 women that were rude and unprofessional. After a 30 to 40 minute wait I was asked to come back to my room. I then noticed I was the only patient in the whole place. After another 30 to 40 minute wait the doctor arrived. The doctor was professional and had it removed in less than 30 seconds after applying the numbing agent. After the hook was removed I sat in the room for another 30-40 minutes. I was then greated by one of the 3 ladies from earlier who didn't explain my bill just stated she had looked at my insurance and that I had a high deductible and that I needed to pay $1274.00. She then says for people who cannot afford full payment you can pay $250.00 today and make payments online. I went in expected the entire bill to be $250.00. Today I call to see if my insurance company adjusted the bill and I received more rude people that passed me around the phone 4 times. They then informed me I could come pick up a copy of the bill. Really covenant for my 10 hour drive. If you are from out of town know these people will take advantage of you and you will receive a poor service with rude employees. Maybe this is the norm in Florida but not in Tennessee. read more

Rip Off Alert! Beware of excessive charges at this place. Took my child in for Strep because CVS Minute Clinic was closed after 8pm and we had to leave early the next morning. We were told that we only had a $100 copay so we went ahead. A month later we got the bill for $800. I thought my insurance didn't pay but turns out the total charges were some $3,600! The place was empty (now I know why) and it still took over an hour to get swabbed. The bill wasn't itemized probably to make it difficult to figure out where they gouged us. Called the insurance company and they had the info: $600 for a throat swab and $600 for a flu swab. Plus $2400 in other tests and add ons that we had no idea they were sticking us for. read more

Our son has trouble with any medical exam, but the doctors and nurses were very patient and kind and we were able to get a nose swab for the flu test. The only good thing about this place is that there wasn't a wait to be seen. It took longer to get the discharge papers than it did to fill out paperwork, and have a 3-year-old get stitches. I don't recommend this place for kids. The doctor who did the stitches hand was shaking horribly, which was awful when he was getting jabbed with a needle to numb the area; they covered the child's face which made him really scared; I could have done the stitches better myself; and they didn't trim them afterwards so they were sticking out really far. They left used needles and trash all over the room for over a half an hour while we were waiting for discharge papers. Who leaves that crap sitting around? Especially with a child in the room. They had brought a box of supplies in with them before they got started, and then left the box behind. Not really safe to have a ton of needles sitting there. Of course we were watching the child, but still doesn't seem very smart. The doctor and nurses weren't clear on instructions. What they were saying was contradicting each other. We had to ask the same question several times. It was incredibly difficult to understand what the doctor and one of the nurses were saying with their accents. It was made worse when the doctor would talk to you without facing you and speaking softly. I would drive the extra distance next time to go somewhere else. read more

Dr. Michael Williams is the best there is! Once when other doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital did not help me and sent me home with no diagnosis and still in severe pain I saw him at Destin ER and within minutes he diagnosed me and got me back to health not by running a bunch of useless tests but by listening to my symptoms. The second time I wound up at Destin ER was because my primary doctor was out of town. I was taken right in and immediately he diagnosed the problem very quickly but went one step further. I told him about some issues I was having and he told me to have my primary doctor order a specific test and that I needed to get it done as soon as possible. I had been complaining about these issues to my primary for 5 months. The test he recommended showed my gallbladder was only functioning at 7%. I had it out and all of the issues I was having are gone. I wish I could have him as my primary doctor. I think one of the best things about Dr. Williams is not only his knowledge and years of the best kind of experience a doctor can have, i. e. emergency room medical care, but he has the best set of ears of any doctor I have ever been to. He listens closely and I think that is so important when you are trying to help someone. Every time I have gone there I have always been taken in quickly and had total resolve of my issues. I can't thank him enough. He is the best! I would give him 10 stars if I could. I would like to add that the staff has always been cordial and kind. I love this place!
