I love that I'm both entering this school into the Yelp Dallas database and reviewing it first. As…read morea college employee, I went for a tour of this school and fell in love with the place. First, don't let the name fool you. It's not a school for black students, only. I was pleased to see that there are black, Hispanic, and white students at this school. The principal is genuinely excited about the opportunity he has to lead these boys and he gets even more excited when visitors arrive. He allowed me and my colleague to visit as many classrooms as we wanted and something really neat happened. In every class, a student would come to us and give us a personal greeting along with a brief description of what they were learning in class. How about this? One of the students in the Mandarin Chinese class, greeted us in the language! I met the physical education teacher who is actually engaged in teaching the students...physical education. He's not some old guy who stands over the students while they do push-ups nor is he a babysitter. The teacher actually spoke to us about his methods for evaluating the physical state of his boys. FYI, this is not a private school. It is a public school that has high standards for its students. I can't say enough about how great this place seems to be, and I'll make an effort to attend any events they hold.

I do not even know where to begin with this school! As an educator, I have been in many schools…read morewhich claimed to be college prep but were nowhere near that. BOMLA is what all of those schools strive to be. Young men truly engaged in their classes. I was able to observe a robotics class, a flipped band class, a Socratic seminar where young men discussed a variance of religions. School and admin are dedicated and focused on building the characters of the pupils and that is truly wonderful to see. It was such a great experience, and I encourage any young man in the Dallas area to seek admissions. A public school with a private school experience.

Crossroads Academy is NOT a place you want to enroll your child. You'll be wasting a generous…read moreamount of money, but most importantly your child's ability to receive an education worth obtaining. I regrettably wasted my whole high school career attending this school, and have nothing to show for it. I certainly didn't learn anything, and was not up to date on my education as what I would've been if I would have attended a real public/private school. I enrolled in college after graduating, and had to take all remedial classes in order to learn and obtain the material I should've learned in high school. This is a daycare, not a school. As if being in an old bank isn't bad enough, none of their "teachers" are certified or have teaching degrees. Mrs. Lowe and Mr. Lowe are in this business for all the wrong reasons. They care nothing about your child, or your child's education. Their ONLY concern is the money. I had people in my graduating class, who I had not seen or known the WHOLE school year. If your child needs to graduate, hasn't attended school all year, or for many years, you can come here the day before graduation, pay Mrs. Lowe off, and lo and behold, your child will be walking across the stage with a high school diploma the next day. They are crooked, and spawns of the devil. I was physically assaulted my senior year by Mrs. Lowe's husband, Mr. Lowe, in a class room, and had another student as a witness. I pressed charges against him, and was FORCED by Mrs. Lowe to drop the charges in order to be able to return to school, and be able to graduate that year. She threatened to make my life a "living hell" and put an "educational block" on me so I wouldn't be able to attend another school and obtain a diploma without dropping the charges. Mr. Lowe has sexually harassed girls attending the school, offered to sell his prescription pills to the class, has cussed, and verbally abused MANY students at the school. During the three (3) years of attending Crossroads Academy, I saw things people couldn't even phantom would happen in what's supposed to be a "safe-place" for your child, and an establishment that your child should be obtaining an education at. If you were to drug test the staff, and people "running" this school, you would not be impressed with the results. During my years, I saw on many occasions where the staff and "teachers" have bought drugs and other illegal substances from STUDENTS attending the school. Many others, and myself, have obtained many, many, many, audio and video recordings of how the staff treats their students, and the way they talk to them. So just a word from the wise, DO NOT enroll your child in this "school." You'll regret it, and cost your child a big part of their life.

My son has been a student at Newman for five years. After the first year I was so happy with the…read moreschool and the caring environment, I applied for a teaching position and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work at Newman. The class sizes are smaller, the curriculum is amazing, my son is an honor student and is excelling not only academically, but at life. I love working at Newman. We have the greatest staff and teachers that truly care about their students. There is genuine love for students and their families at Newman and it is a very safe and beautiful environment as well! The reviews below made me so sad. I am sure that caring parents reading the reviews will be able to read between the lines and understand that for whatever reason the reviews were written by people that were upset with the school for enforcing policies, behavior expectations, and school rules that are outlined in the Student Handbook - which every parent and student receives and then signs an acknowledgement of receipt and understanding. of the contents. Students are allowed to wear any jacket outside, the Newman approved school jackets are for inside. Newman does enforce the dress code and I am glad. If I am following the rules and providing the proper uniform for my child, I expect other parents to do the same. Newman is a school that follows the rules and policies. As a parent of a student here, and an employee, I am so happy. I have a good student that does his job and behaves well. If that is the type of student you have, or want your child to be, this is the place for you! Try it - you will love it here!

We were very impressed and we were also impressed at how well they hosted parents and students from a visiting high school. Everyone from students to parents and faculty was just as nice as they could be. My only complaint and feedback for the school is that they are trying to go cashless on ticket sales and also their concession sales. Their ticket sells app, though simple, requires too many steps. I actually ended up buying tickets for a family that was very confused on how to navigate back-and-forth on the steps for the app. And that was one of their own families, not one of us visiting families. Well, the cashless set up at the concession stand was far more simple. Once again the reader was having problems, making the process far more complicated than it needed to be. Another thing that I don't think is too cool, is most students have cash and don't carry a credit card. So there are you in the app with kids to order things and then find out that they don't have a means to pay for it. So they need to streamline their cashless policy and at least figure out a way that kids can pay if they don't have a credit card. Review #2124

Parents who want to verify these failing scores will struggle to find them, as the Superintendent refuses to post them publicly as required. Her contract guarantees a base salary well above $300,000 per year, and with benefits and incentives she takes home over $500,000 annually. The contract protects her from ever receiving a pay cut--she is only eligible for raises, even as student outcomes continue to decline. How does someone get rewarded more for consistently failing students? The school board is no better. Roughly half of the board members responsible for financial oversight are her own family, and about three-quarters (still a part of her family) of the board work/preach at the same church, creating obvious conflicts of interest. Instead of prioritizing students and parents, Faith Family Academy has become a system that profits off the backs of Black and Brown children while delivering little in return. Adding to the hypocrisy, the Superintendent's own children do not attend Faith Family Academy. They are enrolled in private school. If Faith Family Academy is supposed to be a "top-class" institution, why wouldn't her own family attend? The reality is clear: while other people's children are left behind, her children are given the best opportunities money can buy--opportunities funded by taxpayers who were promised something better.
