We enrolled our student in Turning Point Christian and we were displeased with the quality of education and the demeanor of the school. My advice to parents is to give considerable thought to educational objectives prior to enrolling a child in TPA. The quality of instruction is substandard at best, while dogma and pettiness on the part of some administrators is alive and well. Our student, a six grader, with commended performance in public schools and charter schools on TAKS math and science and slightly above average grades (and never unsatisfactory marks in citizenship) received failing marks and poor citizenship in all subjects while attending TPA. Bible was the only subject she received a passing grade (80). Moreover, I doubt if teachers and administrators had a clue as to rubrics and standards required by accredited private schools. To reiterate, our student who is slightly above grade level for a sixth grader, was assigned a grade 9 science text, a grade 8 language arts text, no social studies textbook and a grade 6 math textbook where instruction began on page 289 of an approximate 350 page textbook. Consequently, we spent many of our evenings explaining math concepts to our student which never appeared to have been addressed in the class. Also, after reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" (grade 7 or above for advanced readers), our student wrote a paper on Jim Crow (a major theme of Harper Lee) only to have the head administrator throw her paper at her in from of classmates with the comment, "We don't discuss race in this school !" If this was indeed the case, why in the world were students reading a book which primarily deals with racial issues? The following assigned reading was "The Scarlett Letter," (grade 9 or 10) was just to advance for a sixth grader. The smartest thing we did while at TPA, was to remove our student once we realized our concerns were falling on death ears. The facility is family ran with many students consisting of family members and close family friends. Parents concerned primarily with academic achievement in lieu of never ceasing religious indoctrination are ostracized and made to feel very unwelcomed by some of the family members' children--especially if ones' religious views differ from those of TPA administrators. In my opinion, TPA is for families and students interested in religion as their main focus. So that it is clear, there are some fine Christian schools in Desoto. However, in reviewing our experience, Turning Point Christian Academy is certainly NOT one of them.

Crossroads Academy is NOT a place you want to enroll your child. You'll be wasting a generous…read moreamount of money, but most importantly your child's ability to receive an education worth obtaining. I regrettably wasted my whole high school career attending this school, and have nothing to show for it. I certainly didn't learn anything, and was not up to date on my education as what I would've been if I would have attended a real public/private school. I enrolled in college after graduating, and had to take all remedial classes in order to learn and obtain the material I should've learned in high school. This is a daycare, not a school. As if being in an old bank isn't bad enough, none of their "teachers" are certified or have teaching degrees. Mrs. Lowe and Mr. Lowe are in this business for all the wrong reasons. They care nothing about your child, or your child's education. Their ONLY concern is the money. I had people in my graduating class, who I had not seen or known the WHOLE school year. If your child needs to graduate, hasn't attended school all year, or for many years, you can come here the day before graduation, pay Mrs. Lowe off, and lo and behold, your child will be walking across the stage with a high school diploma the next day. They are crooked, and spawns of the devil. I was physically assaulted my senior year by Mrs. Lowe's husband, Mr. Lowe, in a class room, and had another student as a witness. I pressed charges against him, and was FORCED by Mrs. Lowe to drop the charges in order to be able to return to school, and be able to graduate that year. She threatened to make my life a "living hell" and put an "educational block" on me so I wouldn't be able to attend another school and obtain a diploma without dropping the charges. Mr. Lowe has sexually harassed girls attending the school, offered to sell his prescription pills to the class, has cussed, and verbally abused MANY students at the school. During the three (3) years of attending Crossroads Academy, I saw things people couldn't even phantom would happen in what's supposed to be a "safe-place" for your child, and an establishment that your child should be obtaining an education at. If you were to drug test the staff, and people "running" this school, you would not be impressed with the results. During my years, I saw on many occasions where the staff and "teachers" have bought drugs and other illegal substances from STUDENTS attending the school. Many others, and myself, have obtained many, many, many, audio and video recordings of how the staff treats their students, and the way they talk to them. So just a word from the wise, DO NOT enroll your child in this "school." You'll regret it, and cost your child a big part of their life.
