Easy to find on the campus and near plenty of parking! HUGE auditorium with carpeted floors, padded seats that were comfortable to sit on for 8 hours, CLEAN air and a professional modern sound system that interacted easily with a laptop. That said, this school feels like a PRISON. The STAFF are rude and are DICTATORS and HYPOCRITES, and the STAFF doesn't care about the students until something happens to the students or teachers. When the first day of school started, they had this big pep rally, and most of the staff who were there who are rude act like they are wholesome when really they are hypocrites and liars because they were bragging about us getting new computers, and come time to get the computers, they were old, broken, missing keys, nasty liquids, damaged screens, and buttons didn't work, which is funny. Also in the mornings almost everyday kids are late because of these phone pouches and them turning away kids from the building so it makes kids late which they got to get tardy which doesn't make since because its the school fault and which is why it takes one of the parts why they attendants scores are low and they are teaching us on a middle school level when we are in high which means lack of understanding to the students of DUNCANVILLE HIGH but I guess that's wrong . The ONLY good part about this school is the students and some of the teachers; they make it worth going to every day. The class sizes are smaller, the curriculum is amazing, my son is an honor student and is excelling not only academically, but at life. I love working at Newman. We have the greatest staff and teachers that truly care about their students. There is genuine love for students and their families at Newman and it is a very safe and beautiful environment as well! The reviews below made me so sad. I am sure that caring parents reading the reviews will be able to read between the lines and understand that for whatever reason the reviews were written by people that were upset with the school for enforcing policies, behavior expectations, and school rules that are outlined in the Student Handbook - which every parent and student receives and then signs an acknowledgement of receipt and understanding. of the contents. Students are allowed to wear any jacket outside, the Newman approved school jackets are for inside. Newman does enforce the dress code and I am glad. If I am following the rules and providing the proper uniform for my child, I expect other parents to do the same. Newman is a school that follows the rules and policies. As a parent of a student here, and an employee, I am so happy. I have a good student that does his job and behaves well. I regrettably wasted my whole high school career attending this school, and have nothing to show for it. I certainly didn't learn anything, and was not up to date on my education as what I would've been if I would have attended a real public/private school. I enrolled in college after graduating, and had to take all remedial classes in order to learn and obtain the material I should've learned in high school. This is a daycare, not a school. As if being in an old bank isn't bad enough, none of their "teachers" are certified or have teaching degrees. Mrs. Lowe and Mr. Lowe are in this business for all the wrong reasons. They care nothing about your child, or your child's education. Their ONLY concern is the money. I had people in my graduating class, who I had not seen or known the WHOLE school year. If your child needs to graduate, hasn't attended school all year, or for many years, you can come here the day before graduation, pay Mrs. Lowe off, and lo and behold, your child will be walking across the stage with a high school diploma the next day. They are crooked, and spawns of the devil. I was physically assaulted my senior year by Mrs. Lowe's husband, Mr. Lowe, in a class room, and had another student as a witness. I pressed charges against him, and was FORCED by Mrs. Lowe to drop the charges in order to be able to return to school, and be able to graduate that year. She threatened to make my life a "living hell" and put an "educational block" on me so I wouldn't be able to attend another school and obtain a diploma without dropping the charges. Mr. Lowe has sexually harassed girls attending the school, offered to sell his prescription pills to the class, has cussed, and verbally abused MANY students at the school. During the three (3) years of attending Crossroads Academy, I saw things people couldn't even phantom would happen in what's supposed to be a "safe-place" for your child, and an establishment that your child should be obtaining an education at. If you were to drug test the staff, and people "running" this school, you would not be impressed with the results. During my years, I saw on many occasions where the staff and "teachers" have bought drugs and other illegal substances from STUDENTS attending the school. Many others, and myself, have obtained many, many, many, audio and video recordings of how the staff treats their students, and the way they talk to them. So just a word from the wise, DO NOT enroll your child in this "school." You'll regret it, and cost your child a big part of their life.

As a student here, I personally dislike it due to the fact it really only cares about football,…read morehence band and cheerleading because they're associated with football games. Sure this school has a history with footballs wins, but it doesn't mean neglecting your other clubs and activities. Sometimes they set aside class time to attend an awarding ceremony in the gym to congratulate football players that are graduating or getting money, and it always last for about an hour. This year they started using AI to make posters instead of just consulting the art teacher to request assignments associated with school spirit, they're already neglecting their art program anyways, which I'lll get to later. I told a teacher that I didn't like the use of AI for a yellow bear in a football shirt with muscles in the classic big top build and short legs next to a hip hop studio station looking things, and said teacher told me "Why don't you just go to a different school?". Look, I didn't even want to go to this school and it's not like I can leave, but you shouldn't tell a student, especially a P-TECH student to leave this school because they don't like the staff using AI to make school posters when school spirit has and should always be human-made and expressed. On top of back, back to the neglected art topic, if I'm not mistaken SOC is paired up with Mountain View which I believe is a college very passionate with art. I had a tour of which I hope was the same school, and they had a whole hallway to show case art, a pottery room, there was even an Alice In Wonderland theater going on that friday. It's ironic that SOC is using AI imaging, one of the top things fighting artists, while being allegedly paired with an art college, not to mention this college is the reason the P-TECH program is relatively there and functioning in SOC. On top of that, the P-TECH majors there at the time I'm writing this is Personal Computering, Electrical Technology, Kinesiology(for some reason, no shame to it it's just a little absurd to me), and one related to piloting. Notice how there isn't an Art related major? I initially figured majors were a difficult process to have when being a P-TECH high school so I asked a P-TECH counselors why despite being paired with a college that has a passionate art reputation, we have no art majors, she gave me an explanation I understood, but ove explained it a lot that I didn't understand anymore. I told why I didn't understand, and she just told me she overexplained to make sure the ones she's talking to understands, which also didn't make sense to me because she didn't really try to undermine her overexplaining, and the conversation was going on much longer than I expected it to, mostly due to the overexplaining. This school also caused me a lot of stress socially wise. The work there is fine, it's just the classmates and other students I had along with a good chunk of the teachers that made me want to rebel my reputation of a being the obedient, gifted, over-achieving kid. I feel it now despite it only being a month in this school year as a Sophomore. Also, same teacher that told me to go to a different school, she does this thing where she has podiums for different class periods and she has growth goals. I understand that the growth goals aren't of her control, which is why I'm more commenting on the district right now but she's still in relevance. Nevertheless, I don't think a competitive circumstance will help kids do better performance wise. Sure, some poeple get that overzealous thrill, but many other people would feel pressured and may not do their best as a result, or others might shut down entirely. Just saying, people experience expectations very differently, and I find that her classroom system, which is common but she mentions the podium stuff more often than any teacher I had, isn't a 100% guaranteed boost one-size-fits-all. In addition to growth goals, I don't find them very helpful either. Sure, they just be there to help students know what grades are considered an improvement, but the same teacher tells us that we should always be performing above our growth goal. Take, for example, my growth goal, which is a 94. If you think about it, that menas I can only miss one or no questions on every assignment, maybe two questions if I'm lucky, and that isn't healthy. No kid should be expected to perform almost perfect grades on every classwork given to them just because of a score. No human, especially teenagers and children, are robots. We can't ingrave mistakes in our memories and smoothly answer questions and meet high standards. Humans are flawed creatures and realistically make mistakes, but that doesn't make you stupid or intelligent, let alone unfit for a progam like P-TECH, it just makes you imperfect, and the concept of perfect is already an impossible standard, so don't make someone obsess over it because its only gonna cause burn-out and low self-esteem.
