As you encounter faculty and staff you get a sense of community here that I don't always find on high school campuses. Between my work, and also between having some very active family members in the high school community I have a unique opportunity to visit and work with a lot of high schools. I can honestly say that this one is very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. I was here for an event that my grandson was participating in. That event required tickets and essentially you have to go onto a website or get an app in order to purchase tickets even as a visitor to the school. The staff here was very friendly and helpful as far as helping me purchase tickets for my family. I also attended the concession stand and the adults and students There were very friendly, welcoming and helpful too. I have to say my visit here, and all the encounters I had with people that represent the school, including the students was very pleasant.

The school has done very well accommodating her IEP, and when I had issues they addressed them in a timely manner. The only problem we struggle with now is the no cell phone law. I don't agree with no cell phones. I know it's a state law but I don't feel my child is protected. She has severe anxiety and wears headphones and listens to music, so I got her an mp3 player this year. It helps but if she needs me she has to either go to nurse or email me. Until violence in our schools is controlled, I think cell phones should be allowed! Teachers can manage cell phone usage in classrooms. Even most teachers disagree with the cell phone ban.

Woodrow works wonders. It serves a population which goes from the children of doctors, lawyers and…read moreother post-grad professionals to those whose parents didn't finish school in Mexico. This mix is unique, you won't find it at other schools. The social skills and friendships formed are as impressive as the academics. Speaking of that, The Dallas Morning News recently published that Woodrow is #1 in academic gains in Dallas. The school was redesigned three years ago into four college prep academies which offer AP and IB (International Baccalaureate). Woodrow and its feeder, J. L. Long Middle School, are the only two IB schools in Dallas. Transfers for those out of the attendance zone are available with applications starting in January. Unlike DISD magnets, Woodrow offers the full range of athletic and extracurricular activities. It is the quintessential American high school experience. The Lakewood area is a bit like a small town and many generations have attended the school resulting in many traditions and an extensive alumni network. My only gripe would be that the principal, going into his third year, is a little to strict on spirit and pep rallies. He does attend most sporting events, however. Overall, it's a great school and a true oasis of education in DISD.

This is a place where personal connection to your environment, fellow students, faculty, and staff MATTER. Here the "we care about your child" isn't just spoken, but lived, at every single level of the University. College isn't for everyone. If it's for you (or your child) check out Texas Wesleyan if smaller CAN be better - smaller campus, smaller classes, more tightly reigned focus (after all who really needs a degree in 20 different Chinese dialects?!), and a staff that knows your child's name. This isn't A&M; this isn't TCU. This is like Cheers in a sense - everyone will now your child's name and will do everything they can to make sure they succeed. This is the right fit for my bright, communication-focused, self-directed child; it wasn't about whether he was a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a huge pond. This is about finding the right-size pond where he can thrive. I believe with my whole heart that TX Wes is that place. There's a Rosedale Renaissance going on; I can't wait to watch this place and its community get better and better!

The professors are are almost ALL liberal thinkers and Marxist. Critical Race Theory is pushed in almost every class. 1619 is not condemned as fiction and questioning professors blatant biases is mocked. Some classes are even proudly anti American. It is not a safe place for conservatives not Christians.
