I can't believe Dr. Erasmus is still practicing! I was under the care of Dr. Erasmus waaaaaay back in 1992, 31.50 yrs ago! I was a mere 33 yrs old then, and I was suffering from my L4-L5 lumbar bulging disc pain. I asked Dr. Erasmus about that popular disc fusion trend everyone was having, including my brother! Dr. Erasmus wouldn't even consider such an operation for me. Dr. Erasmus pointed out, that I have a large upper torso, and all that upper body weight would put too much pressure and stress on the lumbar disc above, and below the L4 / L5 disc! Well 31.50 yrs later, and 14.50 yrs of full RETIREMENT! I look back on his advice I received 31.50 yrs ago, and at the time I did not totally agree with him, Dr. Erasmus was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I did not need that fusion, and my bulging disc subsided with medication and "TIME!" I wish I could give Dr. E 10 stars. My experience with Dr. Erasmus, and his staff, is the best I've had in decades. I changed insurance companies recently, so was forced to see someone other than a Stanford doctor. As it turns out, that is great luck. Not dissing Stanford, but honestly--Dr. Erasmus (who is in-network with my new insurance company) is the best. When I went in to discuss injuries sustained during a long-ago car accident, I didn't bring info about the various orthopedic surgeries I've had since. My experience over the years has been that when a doc practices a certain specialty, they have little to no interest in services provided by practitioners of different specialties. But Dr. Erasmus wanted to know about everything I've had done. Fortunately, I brought discs with images of the MRIs, CTs, and x-rays I've had done, and he spent a long time viewing those. He has great respect for the other docs I've worked with, but explained he just wanted to see why they made the decisions they did (and the results). He also showed me tiny details that could never have been identified in a radiology report. Time seemed to make no difference to him. We had a lengthy visit, and I never felt rushed. He was respectful, friendly, and thoughtful in his responses. At the end of that first appointment with him, he recommended that I have an EMG with a fellow doc, and, if necessary, we can discuss further treatment after that. He also strongly suggested that I start having massages. My condition leaves me with a lot of joint and muscle pain and tightness. It's always seemed like it might be a good idea to try massage, but that seemed a bit self-indulgent. So to hear it from my doctor was great news. Even better, I've had two deep-tissue massages since I saw Dr. E, and the results have been excellent. In the time since, I've also had some hiccups with my insurance company. Wow, Dr. E's office staff had me covered! They (Alicia) went far above and beyond in helping me out--instead of insisting I contact my insurance company for info, she went ahead and did it for me. Then she called me back immediately, telling me the problem was now solved. Gabby helped me with issues as well, and everyone I met while I was at the office was top-notch. Last, I'm not going to lie--Dr. E is not one of those hot-shot 30-something docs. They may be smart, but they just don't have much experience yet. Consulted Dr Erasmus for some arm pain and numbness and misdiagnosed as elbow arthritis, despite bringing in a spine MRI to the consultation. Treated with sanctimony rather than patience and refused to listen to concerns and symptoms. Wasted several weeks of ineffectual medication and consulted another physician instead, who correctly diagnosed and treated the spinal stenosis. read more

Dr. Erasmus treated both my old parents at various times. He is one of the most kind, compassionate, and soft-spoken doctor I have ever met. He listens attentively and advises accordingly. I have seen Dr. Erasmus for over 15 years. He is simply an amazing man as well as a gifted Dr. He helped me manage a chronic back injury for 13 years while I raised my kids. Once we (yes, I say we because it always felt like we were a team) were no longer able to manage it without narcotics, he set me up for surgery. He had always told me before 50, before 50. Since he had spent so much time explaining what was going on with my back, keeping me off pain pills and out of surgery until the right time came, once he said, I think it's time, I totally trusted him. I had a very high tech surgery to fuse my L4-L5 discs together. It was very successful. In the mean time, my husband started having some wierd sensations in his arms and hands. He saw many Dr.'s who gave him the run around and mis diagnosed him over and over. Mainly because they were not listening to him. All the while his symptoms kept getting worse. Finally he was able to get an MRI and the Nuerologist, Dr. Khalsa (also great) who read it said you need emergency surgery, do you happen to know what surgeon you would like to see. Dr. Erasmus saw us that afternoon. Since I was only 1 month out of my surgery, he gave us 10 days to figure out how we were going to do this, but my husband had to be in a neck brace and off work. Basically, he was going paralyzed. Dr. Erasmus did the surgery, again a huge success and basically saved my husband from a life in a wheel chair. He says he is 98% back. There was no gaurantee he would get better, just that they could stop the process from getting worse. Dr. Erasmus and his staff not only took very good care of us, they cared for us as individuals. They got to know us, and to know what we cared about. They showed concern for our teenage girls, and often asked how they were handeling things. Dr. Erasmus is that Dr. you hope you always hope you will get, skilled, compassionate, personable and proffessional. Even spiritual. Rare. I have and would highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Erasmus is a terrific doctor and a very compassionate human being. I recently had a discectomy from an extruded disk (L4 L5), Which was causing pretty bad sciatica pain and foot drop on the left leg. From the first visit on he did a great job of explaining my condition to me thoroughly, what was going to happen and even answer all of my family's question; but most importantly, did an awesome job performing the surgery! His staff accommodated me the best they could. I would recommend no one other than Dr. Erasmus! read more

Hi all, He is a great surgeon and Dr. I came to his office because I was in so much pain in the ER 18 years ago. He was referred to me by the ER Dr. I was so bad I had ruptured my 5th disk in my lumbar region I was unable to walk. He performed my laminectomy and the very next day I could walk but of course on a walker. He is a gentle Dr. and doesn't cut any larger than he needs to. I am petite person so he told me he performed a very petite surgery on me. Another thing that I liked best is he didn't use the those big ugly disfiguring staples on my back. It barely shows now over the years. If you want a great surgeon he is the one. But if you still have some lingering pain after wards be prepared to go back to work on the designated time. He will not excuse you from work longer than his estimated time of 3 months. I went back to work I feel months to early for my job and wasn't able to sit down or stand or bend over and endure the pain for another 3 months. Fortunately I was laid off after returning to work 3 months later and I got to rest and heal up for the next 6 months and was called back to work. I now see a chiropractor for maintenance only and it is the greatest choice I made. If I needed surgery again I would have it from this Dr. Erasmus. I do recommend him for surgery. He is very knowledgeable and experienced and caring. He even let me make a lot of medical choices I needed for my personal health problems at the time. He is an open minded Dr. read more
