If I could give 0 stars... Mao is a lady who insulted me, told me I am not a dentist and don't deserve to have an opinion, accused me of not knowing anything, yelled at me, treated me like dirt, called stupid on so many levels, stormed out saying that I am wasting her time and she has other patients...than a young, polite lady came, inspected my teeth and said that no cavity is visible on x ray or with a metal probe. Offered to drill in and see if there is any cavity which I politely refused. When I asked her for name of the other dentist - she said Mao is a dental assistant. This office has a problem if they are letting a dental assistant insult and mistreat patients- after all, our dental insurance and our copays are paying her bills, you would think that someone as "smart" as her would at least know a thing or two about customer service... She was right, I am not a dentist, but clearly a dental assistant isn't one either. So, while I really like the sweet "real" dentist who respectively listened to what I had to ask and say, Mao is the reason this place only gets one star. Other employees were ok and nice, and clearly also bothered with the toxic personality Mao has. Most people don't like to be insulted as customers - note for the office managers. read more

I tried to schedule an appointment to see Dr Bibb. I was referred by a friend. I walked in last week on Tuesday. The receptionist with black hair and long eye lashes told me they were closed. She took my name and number down but never called me back. I guess I will never get to meet the Dr that was highly recommended to me now. Bad business. I had a horrible experience here about six years ago, as they did a root canal procedure that was not needed. I did not know this until moving to Austin and seeing a dentist here who pointed out that it was not properly done, either. I would never return to Design Dental Group. Dr. Bibb seemed very nice in my interactions with her, however 3 of the 4 other staff I interacted with while there gave me a very negative impression. I'll start off by saying that I do not enjoy going to the dentist. However, I have had good experiences with good dental practices before and was hoping for this here. It was my first time at a dentist in a year or two due to finishing my degree and having no money. I knew to expect some issues after that length of time, but I religiously brush my teeth 3+ times a day and floss, about every other day. The woman who took me for x-rays and then to the chair was condescending and rude. I have had braces before, and my teeth have not in any major way reverted to their former crookedness. However, this woman continued to try to sell me on Invisalign and other services. This left a bad taste of my mouth and also made me super self conscious of my smile, until I started sharing my concerns with others who assured me that lady was out of line. The cleaning was fine and the (different) woman who did that was okay. Interaction with Dr. Bibb was fine. Then I waited. For 30 minutes. For the guy in charge of explaining your financial options for future treatments. I don't know who hired him, but oh man was that a mistake. Hiring someone who has poor interpersonal communication skills to discuss money with patients is a red flag. Now I knew I needed some work done, and was expecting it to cost $$$, but when you tell me I need a couple thousand dollars of work done and babble incessantly, first not giving me time to think through my budget and THEN making rude comments about how I'm handling the information when all I've done is sit quietly and attempt to process while my ear is being talked off, that's a problem. That was the moment I decided I would not be returning, ever. The cherry on top was when the receptionist oh-so-sweetly handed me floss and explained what it was, condescending tone and all. Phew! My advice: don't go. It's not worth it. Dr. Bibb needs to train her staff on appropriate patient interactions. read more

Cliff Notes: Don't go here Long Version: I'm cheap. In signing up dental insurance with my job, I decided that I'd sign up for the DHMO where you are assigned to one dentist. In doing research, it seemed like the Design Dental Group had nothing but positive reviews on other websites so I had great expectations. I arrived for my appointment about 15 minutes early and walked around the building trying to figure out how to get up stairs - I saw the door but it had a key pad so I assumed it wasn't for the public - but this was in fact the door. After I made my way to the second floor, I was impressed by the office at first. The office assistant was nice, knew my name when I walked in and helpful in filling out the forms. Unfortunately, this is where the good service ended. I sat around in the lobby for a good 20 minutes after my appointment was scheduled to start...finally, the guy came out to get me and conducted 1231231213 x-ray's. I do like that you get to stay at your chair and there's personal tvs- this place has such great potential, but it seems like the emphasis is on perks rather than service. After the x'rays, the technician left me there...didn't say anything...just left, I assumed he'd gone to prep for cleaning my teeth - afterall, that's why I'd scheduled the appointment. It's now an hour after my appointment was to start and the dentist (who I thought - according to the website and dental insurance co is a woman named Melanie Bibb, but it ended up being some dude named Jeff) comes over and starts pointing out stuff about my teeth. He wraps it up by saying everything looks pretty good, just need a cleaning and a little work. He was going to send over the guy from the front with prices... but didn't tell me what for... So I sit there for another 20 minutes...the guy finally comes out and gives me an estimate of $700 and I ask so am i going to get my teeth cleaned now? He said no we don't do it until after the fillings because it will mess it up. (uh what?) He then sets me up with another appointment. He asks if I want to do them all at once or break it up... Finally I ask, look nobody even told me what this "little bit of work" is... He said you need 7 fillings.......... Ummm...WHAT?! I've never had a filling or cavity for that matter - only ever had my wisdom teeth taken out. I just find it hard to believe that I could have suddenly developed 7. Plus, this doesn't seem like just a little bit of work. So I called my insurance, they said that it was weird and i can be reassigned...I called the design dental group to cancel my appointment, get my x-ray's and make sure I won't be charged for anything else (I never signed anything). So while looking for my invoice, I guess she thought she put me on hold, but I heard every word she said about me. And never sent me my x-rays. Very disappointing experience. read more

I came across Design Dental through my insurance company and the location was very convenient for me. I think that's the only POSITIVE about this place. I came in after feeling minor discomfort and was told that I *MAY* need a root canal but she wouldn't know until she was inside my tooth. I thought that was a bit odd. Their financial coordinator came over to sit with me and told me that each tooth would cost about $3,500 WITH MY INSURANCE! Something did not feel right so I asked for a printout and would return another day. I have now found a new dentist who stated I only need 1 root canal. My new dentist OOP costs are $350.00 and they have amazing reviews, plus she conducted several tests to determine the above. BIG DIFFERENCE! Moral of the story: If they suggest that you need any major work done or you feel that the prices are too high--get a second opinion! read more

This was the worst dental experience in my life. They took a ton of x-rays, deleting and retaking them because the guy lacked experience, the office manager was rude, and Dr. Bibb was unprofessional. To sum it up, I waited a long time, was presented with a huge estimate, never received the cleaning I was scheduled for, and was told that they would be cancelling my insurance after the month so I'd have to pay everything out of pocket. I'll start off by saying that Dr. Bibb, from the little time I spent with her, is a very gentle handed dentist. I talked to her once after a cleaning and she did the procedure of putting IN a new crown that replaced an old crown I had. That is all about that is good with this place, her hands and her niceness. So, I went in for my second cleaning of 2019 and their lead hyegnist (Mao, who is clearly a good salesperson who does the the selling of not needed items at this office) convince me (by HARD selling) that I needed a new crown. She said mine was very worn down and this was the reason I had sensitivity around this tooth (#19) - I knew I grinded my teeth a lot at night so I believed her when she said that it would help with sensitivity. I got fitted for the crown and the actual process of getting it put in was done by Dr. Bibb, who again, is a very nice dentist. The whole thing cost me around $600 - after this, Mao tried VERY hard to sell me on invisalign when I was clearly just worried about my sensitivity. I went back for a cleaning this year and Dr. Bibb did not see me as she is now only working part time. Another dentist saw me and when she looked at my xrays she referred me to an endodontist saying that I needed to have the root canal retreated (She referred me to EndoGroup Houston aka VOSS DENTAL) - I went to VOSS DENTAL on a Friday and had the WORST experience of my life. A Dr. by the last name of Bouhluli? Started drilling into my tooth without waiting for me to go numb, and then halfway through the procedure he said he could not do it and would recommend extraction. He closed me up and sent me to the billing department who called Dr. Bibb's office where they told them they could do the extraction. This was at around 1pm- I called Dr Bibbs office at around 2pm and left a message. They called me back and left me a message at around 2:17pm - I was freaking out about having to have an extraction done and left a few voicemails basically crying- I called like every 30 min until their office closed and I did not hear back fromt hem until Monday afternoon when their office person Cheryl said we had been playing phone tag and was calling to set up an appointment. I let he know that after they had not answered me, I reached out to family and friends who referred me to a dentist that answered all my questions even though he was on vacation and would no longer be seeing them for treatment. At this point Cheryl interrupted me about 4 times to make sure I knew that they had tried to call me and it was me who had not answered, which was true but I had called back multiple times. I then let her know that I was also upset that they had sold me a crown that cost a pretty freaking penny without fully investigating the reason my tooth was hurting (the root canal needed retreatment!)- she again interrupted me saying that they had tried to call me back and it was not their fault. Of note, I showed my xrays to multiple dentists who all agreed that the root canal needed retreatment way before I got the crown put in. Meaning, they sold me a crown just to make money and not because I needed it because that was not at all the root of the problem. PUN INTENDED. Again, Dr Bibb is an okay dentist but you rarely have contact with her. Her office staff (Mao and Cheryl specifically) are not to be trusted. Cheryl is rude and should not be working in any customer service position and Mao is the kinda person that will try to get your money no matter what. read more

To be fair: I'm new to Houston, this is the only dentist I have tried. Good: Clean office, easy to find. Easy to park behind the building and walk up to the second floor. High tech equipment. Upon arrival, they offered me apple juice or water, just a nice touch. My cleaning was very through. Mediocre: Dr. Bibb only spoke to me for approx. 2 minutes. No comments to me about my teeth, no suggestions (other than - you grind, get a mouth-guard at CVS) HOWEVER, I appreciated her not selling me on a million treatments, whitening, etc. that I did not need. Bad: The man who took my ex-rays seemed inexperienced and out of it. They took a million x rays and then used a wand like thing to take a million pictures of my teeth. He never explained what he was doing - or why I needed 20+ xrays. All in all, Dr. Bibb should spend more time with patients, getting to know them and making them feel connected to this office. I'll probably go again, but will hope that she takes more time with me. read more

I have been a patient here for at least 7 years. My husband, my sister and several co-workers are also patients of Design Dental. I recommend Dr. Bibb and her practice to anyone I hear is in need of a dentist. Her staff are the sweetest, nicest people who deal with dental chickens like me, with so much compassion and accommodation. Because I move a lot, finding a dentist in a new location is the hardest thing because you have to have so much trust in their abilities. Dr. Bibb is definitely a competent and compassionate dentist. I have been a patient at this office for several years now. While the experience started out well, customer service has devolved to the point that I will be taking my business elsewhere. It all started last November. I called to make an appointment for a routine cleaning. They told me I couldn't make an appointment right now because they were full but to call back in December to make an appointment. So I called back in December. In December I couldn't make an appointment because they were full. I asked to schedule whenever they had availability in the future and they told me they weren't making any appointments past the end of the year because the doctor was making some changes in which insurances she accepted. They offered to let me be on a waiting list if someone canceled and told me to call back in January. At this point I was pretty annoyed but I had been with them for several years so I decided to try again. I called late January / early February and asked to schedule an appointment. The woman who answered the phone said she thought they might have availability that week and asked if she could call me right back. I said yes. In a shocking turn of events, she didn't call back. I called the next day to follow up and got sent to voicemail. I left a message explaining the entire timeline of events and asking them to return my call within one business day or I would assume they no longer wished for me to be a patient. Still NEVER heard from them and it's been several weeks. I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment of a long-time patient. There's clearly something going on at this office. I never had a problem with their dental care and, in fact, often recommended them. Well, no more. Doesn't matter how great you are if you have abysmal customer service. See ya! read more

I have had a positive experience working with the team at Design Dental Group. I have been a patient here for a few years. The office is very contemporary and well maintained. There is plenty of parking, waiting room is welcoming, and there is a variety of treats if you are waiting on a friend or loved one. All equipment is in great condition and office overall is very hygienic. The office uses a great appointment reminder system, that texts you a week before and day of your appointment. My treatment started 2016 with Invisalign to be followed by some crowns. Talking $$$. I had to argue with staff about the type of crowns they offered - I knew more than the staff did, which surprised the dentist. BTW I was going for the more expensive type! They staff didn't know about porcelain over precious metal vs all porcelain etc. Also, the ortho did not complete treatment as planned and now I sit in another dentist getting adjustments because insufficient treatment. I do wear my retainers every night. I have a bottom tooth that migrates during the day... not good. Also... the staff would burn a horrible candle which I was strangely allergic to... my sinuses would actually close up during my visit. Regardless of my request, they would still burn that candle even if I was the 1st appt of the day. read more

I rarely review places, but my experience with Design Dental has been so upsetting that I am finding myself having to take even more time out of my day to do so. I made an appointment with Design Dental a month ago. When I made my appointment, I asked them if they accepted my insurance, and they assured me that they did. Wednesday morning when I went in for my appointment, they told me that they had tired to call me, but have to reschedule me for Friday. We checked the phone number they had on file, and it was incorrect. We updated the number, even though they had updated the number when I made the appointment. So I missed work so I could update my phone number for them in person... Then when I leave work early and come in for my rescheduled Friday appointment, I am told that they once again tried to call me but the number still did not work. This is not true, however, because I received a text from them CONFIRMING MY APPOINTMENT. Turns out I get there and they do not accept my insurance!!!! I ALREADY ASKED THEM IF THEY DID AND THEY ASSURED ME THAT THEY DO?? Why didn't they check it on Wednesday when they rescheduled me in the first place? 2 appointments. 0 dentist visits. I just don't understand. So disappointed. Making an appointment to see the dentist should not be this difficult. read more

AWFUL!! I called and scheduled a cleaning for my teeth. I was taken back to the chair and a guy came to do X-rays. He was distracted by the TV in the room and ended up taking several X-rays over and over. Then Dr. Bibb came and spent 30 seconds looking into my mouth. She said my teeth look great. Then I was told I could go to the front desk and pay my co-pay and SCHEDULE MY CLEANING! Huh? That was the whole reason I was there! If I could give zero stars, I would. But when all was said and done I like the personal and found the experience better than my other dental experiences in the area. I have been going here for about a year. All in all, the service and treatment are acceptable. However, the office manager is very rude and unprofessional. I honestly do not think she knows how to connect with the clients. Couple weeks ago, my dentist appt was cancelled with no notification. When I made it to the office, office managers response was..the computer saids your appointment is next week, and there is no doctor here so see you next week. No apologies. I really love the dentist. I have had a chipped front tooth since I was a child and I got my tooth fixed at midtown dentistry. It was a horrible job aesthetically as it was so thick. Plus after 6 months it wound up discoloring and I could fit floss behind the filling. It looks great thanks to Design. I only suggest to give a floss and maybe a toothbrush during annual cleanings. read more

Ok, I love this place. Both my husband and I go here and we have had nothing but a professional experience through and through. The staff is efficient and easy to deal with, I've never waited more than 5 minuets to be seated.
