The above doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the craziness I had to endure dealing with this unprofessional company. 0/10 -- DO NOT RECOMMEND. Not worth the price or the headache.

We both work full time. Surprisingly, she started with lighting and once we had it installed by her electrician, it made an enormous difference. She brought everything to us and it was fun to come home and see the designs and samples she had left for our review. We appreciated that she would give us choices- usually a higher priced choice and a lower priced choice- so that we could decide what to spend. She also works very well with color and although most rooms are not the same, we love how they flow into one another. The house is almost finished- we're thrilled with every room she did. We liked her personality too- very informal, very laid back. She responds the same day to emails and is available on week ends to meet. She has a way of making you feel that you are her only client. Since we've seen photos of her other clients' homes, we know that's not the case..but it's nice to get that level of service and accessibility throughout the course of working with her. Don't waste your time with someone else who will call you back when they want to and will only show you the most expensive items. Debbie does it right in every way- right from the start.

We paid $1000 for 3 hours in which she provided recommendations for paint and furniture, often built around her recommendations for carpet/rugs. There seemed to be an assumption that we would follow her recommendations even though we didn't have sufficient information (e.g., actually seeing paint samples on the wall, testing furniture in person, assessing rug availability/quality, and getting cost information for furniture). Her 3-hour consultation was essentially a presentation of series of ideas that we either didn't particularly like in the end (e.g., once we saw the paint on the walls) or turned out to be impractical (e.g., one carpet sample that she built her recommendations around turned out to be discontinued). She did provide us with some helpful ideas for a major living area, which we appreciate, but ultimately we didn't feel that we got our money's worth.

Responsiveness was sketchy at best. I had some damaged product which resulted in months of delays (not Mill Valleys fault) BUT they should have advised me to open ALL cabinet boxes and inspect thoroughly instead of only opening fronts. I was disappointed in the Candlelight product, but that's another story. If you want a company to handle all aspects of your kitchen remodel then this is NOT the place to go. You can save some money here (on cabinets) but in my experience the savings was not worth it.

We wanted a simple but very high quality look for a country stone farm house.. Mill Valley showed us white full inset shaker style cabinetry from two of its semi-custom brands. We chose one which was great but saved us $10,000 compared to the highest end line they carry. It was a very long process given everything we had to do and delays with our contractor. But they were very patient and went with us to other places to help pick everything out, even though they weren't selling us the flooring, and appliances. They were also very helpful with the counters, which they don't make either. We went to two different places and learned a lot about surfaces. Ultimately we went back to granite, and we learned you have to be picky because some granite is more beautiful and marbleized than others, and most folks get tired of moving slabs around so you can cherry pick their best stuff. I would definitely recommend Mill Valley if you want a very high end kitchen at a reasonable price.

I did, but still haven't heard back from them. I called also and spoke to Mike. He mentioned that the person who handles this issue was away on vacation. It's been weeks and still no one has gotten back to me. Based on my experience, I would say that you should purchase your cabinets from some place else. Positives: During our 2 hour visit Debbie there were a couple of helpful suggestions she shared with us (lighting, window treatments). After the visit Debbie also did return some of our emails that had follow-up questions. Overall, however, there were 4 things that just didn't cut it for us. 1. Debbie PUSHED her slobproof brand of furniture on us strongly. We were not interested in the styles that she was showing us in her catalog, and mentioned to her a couple of other brands that may work in the space (i.e. crate and barrel, west elm)...but she was dead set on trying to sell her OWN stuff. 2. We spent a LONG time talking about and looking for RUGS on line. She said that this is the first thing you need to tie the room together. Well many months later, we have fabulous living room (thank you Lydia from Arhaus in VA!) with a very subtle simple cream rug. 3. Her communication style was more of a monologue than a dialogue. I know 2 hours isn't a long time, but we felt that our style, needs, and habits weren't really being taken into consideration. #4: Angel W.'s previous comment reminded me of this: Lastly, Debbie did offer to come back at the Groupon price that was coming out soon thereafter. However a few weeks later she reneged on this promise stating in an email that she was only planning on returning because she was under the impression that we would be selecting fabrics for "a Slobproof! Sectional, chairs and some of the other items we discussed." Tying the upcoming visit to to our buying slobpoof furniture was erroneous on its face. We did not have another visit, nor did we purchase any of her furniture. We hope these insights can help improve the customer experience for the next guy.

She mentioned that she was overwhelmed by the Groupon sales and could not take appointments at that time. She said she would call everyone back individually to set appointment times. I never received a call. I always schedule appointments right away and put the date on my calendar. My life is busy and that system works for me. Because the owner never callled me, I forgot about the service. Time passed and the Groupon expired. I have been known to let Groupons expire and am totally fine with it so long as I choose to let it expire. I did not choose to let this one expire. I paid $100 for the service so I was not simply going to let it go, especially since the staff never reached out to me as promised. At this later date, I placed a call to Designing Solutions to get this cleared up. I was promised a phone call that once again never came. The two star rating is solely for poor customer service and lack of follow through. I have worked with many design consultants in the past, all of whom I would give 5 stars. My sister has actually used Designing Solutions and mentioned that their design skills are mediocre so perhaps I lucked out. Groupon (who provides amazing customer service btw), refunded me the money, so this review has nothing to do with me being bitter about the money. I just think it's important for potential clients to realize that they may have to put some effort into getting the attention of the Designing Solutions staff.

After reading reviews on Yelp we decided to go to HB Marble & Granite. As other Yelpers noted, their showroom is not fancy which is fine by me because I don't really want to pay for a fancy schmancy showroom. Huseyin and his son (presumably) were very friendly and let me crawl around their remnants and slabs. When I visited HB Marble & Granite Huseyin was running the wet saw and stopped to help me. I liked that not only does he run his own business but he also has the knowledge to cut stone and willingness to get a little wet and dirty. Although I was hoping to possibly use a remnant for my project in the end I went with a new slab of quartz. The quartz got stuck in the port in New Jersey so my project ended up a little bit delayed but Huseyin was very apologetic and communicative on the issue. I know he was frustrated by the situation too but he did everything he could to get that slab to his shop. And when the slab did arrive, it immediately went on the table for cutting and my countertops were installed hours later! I really admire that Huseyin expedited my job as soon as he had the materials. I was very pleased with the installers. They were friendly and respective of my home. The workmanship was top notch. I've had granite and quartz installed on numerous occasions and I was really impressed with their work and how clean they kept the work area.
