We had the tandoori chicken, excellent; chicken korma, creamy and lovely; butter chicken which we were fighting over the sauce. Even the kiddo was happy. Veggie shinkara (spelling) also spicy, crisp and hot. Overall I would give it 5 but I take one away for the weird dining room lol. Did notice a steady stream of carryouts the whole time. My go-to for Indian food since moving to Detroit. Thank you Kabob House! Another dinner at Kabob House, food was still delicious! Butter chicken, chicken masala, korma - all wonderful. Naan and samosas hot and fresh.

It's within walking distance from my parent's home and I figured I'd give a new place a try. I asked for an order of Vegetable Pakoras ($4) and six Lamb Samosas ($15) to go. Although the restaurant was pretty empty, it took about 30 minutes for my appetizers to arrive. I wouldn't have minded the long wait if the food tasted decent. The pakoras were average and the Lamb Samosas were extremely dry. The filling contained ground lamb mixed with minimal onions and spices. I should've chosen a more traditional samosa, like veggie or chicken. I'm just surprised such mediocre appetizers are being served to customers. I rated this place three stars because I didn't try the entrees. I hope the latter taste better, but I'll never know as I don't plan to visit this restaurant again.

They had a Buffett when we got there so we decided that was a good option to try the different foods. Pros: hardly anyone in there at 2:00 pm on this Sunday (04/30/2023) - The taste of the food was flavored well. Enjoyed the flavor. Cons: The food was lukewarm to cold. Had curry chicken that was terribly undercooked. It seemed like a recipe for some food poisoning. Now as of 6:00 pm there is no issues so that is a real plus. I do not like giving low stars but it is almost impossible not to do that in this case. The young lady was nice when we walked in but that was the end of any communication. Won't be back.

The truth is, I don't want to share. I will hoard my precious bowls of butter chicken and forget all decorum. There is something beguiling about this sauce... and yes, I realize I'm talking about food. But you have to try this dish to understand my devotion. It is about more than the flavor which is incredibly layered, but it's so silky and rich that I could probably drink it by the cupful. Yes, I'm talking about food, don't look at me! Let me just eat in peace, with a giant spoon and a bib. I will even use a veil to hide my shame. The service is always friendly and lovely, and I think they might be a little worried when the tall white lady comes in all wild eyed and hungry. The ambiance is fine, as far as I know, my singular mission is to obtain the butter chicken, I am not sure if they have tables and chairs. The menu looks incredible, with recipes that are probably just as delicious as the butter chicken. But here is my problem... if I try another dish that is just as good as the BC, then what do I do?! I will be back here with another confession even more delicious.

They had a bank of TVs on, which did not really fit with the vibe of an Indian restaurant, but the sound was off, so it was OK. When we first entered - on the late side, for us - the place was not very crowded. However, the number of patrons increased, and it was quite full by the time we were partway through our meal. Now, the food. I got the Lamb Kadi, which was something a bit different for me. A good mix of lamb, tomatoes, onions, garlic, bell pepper and seasoning. Generous portion, and quite tasty - I took some home. The co-diner got his go-to entree, the chicken saag. He found it a bit of a departure from the saag he has had elsewhere, but enjoyable. Service was quite efficient, despite the fact that the establishment was operating short-handed, and the owner had to step in and help. All ini all, we were glad to have discovered Royal Oak Masala, and would be glad to come back and further explore its offerings.

It's been a while I had good Indian food in this area and it seems like a great place. We ordered kadhai paneer and lamb chops and both turned out great. Point to note for ourselves is to order spice level as hot for myself and medium for my white American bf whose spice tolerance isn't as high like myself but more than a mild for sure. Service was great. It is a family run business so the owner himself comes out to take feedback and talk to the guests that shows us the dedication in running this place.. we have to come back again for this as I want to try their biryanis. Keep seeing lots of folks picking up orders and double parking their cars in the driveway to come in and pick up their carry out orders. Ordered starter Gobi Manchurian, veggie samosa, 2 dal soup, Chana masala, Tarka daal, mushroom bhaji and tandoori chicken. $94.24 They gave us the crunchy thin Papadum. Be careful while eating that the seasoning on top doesn't flip up into your eyes, it did that to my husband. He flicked off the seasoning so it wouldn't do it again. The Papadum is good. There was a random empty water bottle at the table. Table top is peeling, needs a refinish. I would put the fly strip in a more discrete spot and not hang it in the vestibule behind the counter. The samosas are good, dough is nice and light, like a wonton and it's packed with potatoes, peas and corn, which is a bit odd. It's better with some chutney. The Gobi Manchurian tastes good, just not crispy at all. The lentil soup is scalding, it's good. I like the roasted garlic in the soup and added some lemon to it as well. The Chana masala is okay, they put potatoes in it as filler instead of more chick peas. Other than the potatoes, it's good. The butter chicken is rather sweet, it's still pretty good. I am glad the chicken chunks aren't too big in this dish. Not a fan when it seems like the pieces are half a breast of chicken. Mushrooms aren't too bad. Not special. The lentils are good. Their garlic naan tastes sweet, almost, it's decent. The tandoori chicken is good.

Chilli chicken was so spicy my husband couldn't eat it. The breads were just ok.

The hosts were delightfully friendly and attentive, regularly checking on us to make sure we were satisfied. Butter chicken was richly creamy, tikka masala had great flavor but it was the lamb korma that stole the show. They don't serve alcohol, but there's a bottle shop almost right across the street so we were about to BYOB to enjoy alongside the meal. Can't wait to go back to this restaurant to try more items!

Everything we ordered came to us steamy hot and beautifully plated! I ordered Tomato Shorba soup - creamy and mildly spiced. It was absolutely delicious! My Palak Paneer (spinach sauce with cheese chunks) over Basmati rice was excellent! The Naan bread was very good as well. My companion tried the Malabar Curry with Lamb. The flavors were very well integrated, however do watch for big pieces of very hot peppers in that dish if you're not into spicy. We finished with the MOST delicious hot Chai Tea ever! It was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. All in all, portions are generous. The price-point is moderate by Detroit standards. The environment is friendly and welcoming.
