Came to this place after almost 5-6 years and honestly disappointed with everything. The food was 5-10, you get raita, the shite sauce free with biryani everywhere but they asked for more money and I understand. The chicken was uncooked and I have attached the pictures. I paid first so that the receptionist doesn't feel like as if I am trying to have a free meal and told him and showed him the chicken but he said nothing and gave me the bill. Highly disappointed. read more

Great service and food was tasty although most was lukewarm. Came with a group and they were super accommodating. We had the Aladdin platter, butter chicken, and some other dishes (people further down at the table so I'm not sure what they ordered). Reasonable prices too. They offer a buffet at lunchtime Monday - Friday. I'll be back to try more items on the menu read more

Buffet is typical indian fare left too long on a heating pad. Rice was dry and so was the naan and the tandori chicken. Dal was the highlight of the flavors on offer with the aloo mobile and tikka masala not really hitting the mark. 14 bucks is a lot to pay in Hamtramck, a sentiment that was on display in the near empty dining room. My ratings Flavors: 4/10 Value: 3/10 Ambiance: 3/10 Fla.V.A Rating of 433 Not worth the detour I'm afraid. read more

I have been to this restaurant multiple times, and the food is usually very good. I would definitely recommend their snack type foods like the Shingara and Samosas. They had a kebab which wasn't bad and lamb chops which were sizzling when they came out. Their tea is also great. I would come back! They are also on DoorDash. Their outside seating is better than the inside. read more

Let me start off by saying this by far is my favourite restaurant in Hamtramck. Hands down. They offer a lunch special that includes a buffet that you can pick from an I'm talking butter chicken, jasmine Rice, Nann.... they have everything. And the people work here are amazingly friendly kind compassionate truly care about the food they have to offer to the community. And did I mention the sweets... TO DIE FOR AND 100% AUTHENTIC!!! This restaurant is my first choice. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. Fresh and many types of food and a large list of dishes.well managed team, and great vibes. And the bill won't break the bank. I love it read more

Used to be my go to spot, pre pandemic. It was cheap, it was good, it had a bustling vibrant atmosphere and was absolutely packed every day until midnight. Now, the prices have gone up (alot), the hours are all over the place so its not reliable. The mango lassis are thin. The curries are really watery. (My last vindaloo and tikka masala was basically juice with a few pieces of chicken floating around in it.) the rice used to have cinnamon and cardamom and saffron and now its just white and bland. you can order the same thing everytime and depending on who rings you up always pay a different price. The language barrier on the phone can be a headache too leading to missing food and wrong items. This used to be a five star mainstay, a twice a week staple comfort food I could always count on. I hope they get their act together. read more

Food is a hit or miss tbh. I only go during Ramadan for their chilli chicken. I use to love their butter chicken but it's not the same anymore. People use to rave about it! However since they're one of the oldest Bangladeshi restaurant(they sell more south Asian food, not specifically Bengali).. I go there. Service is nice. And they have outdoor seating. read more

We stopped there as we were visiting Detroit and decided to visit this place based on reasonable review in Yelp as for Bangladeshi foods. Of all places we have tried Bangladeshi food, the food we got from this place was by far the worst. We ordered quite a few things. We took milk tea, singara, and chicken roll while we were waiting for Naan, Kabob and few others main courses to go with us and eat while we were driving towards Indiana. We also took a few sweet items. Other than tea, singara and one of the sweet( rasagolla) (two stars for that),we had to throw away everything when we finally had time to eat them. The naans have stale bread smell, the kabobs are overdone/burnt, chicken korma does not taste like the real one. We could find any chicken in the rolls; rubbery piece of tubular item. The price is low; but no price is reasonable if we had to throw away the food. I guess we get what we pay for. Not worth considering this place. You will waste money and time while still remain hungry. read more

I ate their food twice in one week. First time was a catered event for about 50 people. The food was delicious especially the butter chicken. I went into the cafe for lunch. There isn't much to the cafe--very sparse and could use a paint and plaster job in some areas, but overall fine. The waitstaff were all respectful men, and the food again was fantastic. It was a bummer they had no mango chutney, but what we were given instead of it was outstanding. The veggie and non-veggie Samosas were delicious but spicy. And the lamb korma was delicious. I would feel confident ordering anything on the menu with the exception of the vindulu. It would be too damn hot for me to handle. This is authentic Indian/Bangladeshi food--they aren't pulling any punches or toning it down for American tastes. And I don't understand the negative reviews because this was not my experience with their take out or dining in. I will be back again for sure!! read more

I've been going here atleast once every month for that last 2 & half years & their food was always fairly good! except for when Corona virus started we had a break and we went last week & it was the WORST!! My grilled beef seekh kabab (which I get All the time) was not even cooked all the way and was NOT grilled! It came with raw onions and bell peppers (which are usually also grilled with the meat). Mixed Grill platter, they gave less items and usually the shrimp is a medium size but I got tiny shrimp which was the size of a fingernail. When I called and complained & explained that I have never gotten food like this & I have pictures from past and present to compare, they had the audacity to tell me that the shrimp shrank & that in Bangladeshi style the seekh kabab is not cooked on a grill (it's clearly under the grill part on the menu). Then he said whatever he gave us is correct & nothing is wrong and everything is same & I can do with that whatever I will. When I said this is your terrible customer service?!? What is your name & id like to speak to the manager/owner, he told he didn't need to be taught how to give service, the food was my problem, refused to give me his name & left the phone not giving it to the manager. I am appalled at the service food and quality!! It has gone down horrendously!! It's a shame I really liked this place, but will NEVER GO BACK!!! read more

Food is incredible. Taste is excellent. Price is fair. Service is great. Remain open till 10pm daily. Outside patio is good.

The food is amazing and consistent. So many wonderful flavors- spicy but not too hot. I will return!

We tried the shag paneer (perfect yum), aloo matar gobi (very good, slightly spicy, veg-full), chicken kabob (good), and the appetizers singara, samosa, and a mystery item that I can't remember nor find on the menu I now have in front of me. We ordered off a photo of the menu I found here, which was apparently out of date. Whatever that mystery item was...it was like a fried, spice-filled pancake, and it was fantastic. Maybe it was aloo paratha? It came with lots of rice and some naan. I'll be back for more, definitely. read more

Aladdin is probably Hamtramck/Detroit's flagship Bangladeshi restaurant. Their food quality isn't the best but it is still good. Their portions are a bit smaller. I have been here multiple times. They have a decent cook. That's all that I can say good about this place. Service is horrible, extremely delayed. Despite having a fifty item menu, on a given day there ll be at most 10 items available (tried around 8 pm on a week day as well as multiple weekends). Bangladeshi restaurants are famous for their serving of sweet water fishes (rohu, hilsa etc), but they only have tilapias on most days. Not your usual ones though, these are smaller and much fresher. I'll give you that. Appetizers are the most destitute part of the menu. While the menu card shows stuff like rolls and kebabs, they ll only have samosas available most days. Despite all that, I used to frequent this place because the cuisine is somewhat I am familiar with (I come from the part of India that shares the largest border with Bangladesh). Also, they are pretty close to a wonderful Bangladeshi grocery shop, so it's kinda ritualistic. But i think I had one of my worst experiences today. They served a seek kebab which was plain bad. Bad not like tasted bad. The raw material was rotten very probably. The first waiter I complained to about this just shrugged and left. The second guy was decent and offered to give me a discount for this. Hence the second star. Not coming back again. Unfortunate because I really love Bangladeshi cuisine and not many Bangladeshi restaurants around. read more

My girlfriend took me to Aladdin's for dinner after returning from Cleveland for Thanksgiving. The food was delicious! We had vegetarian samosas to start that were really good. There was a green sauce paired with it. It was a fresh earthy sauce. For the entree, we shared butter chicken and rice with garlic naan. The chicken was tender and the sauce was rich and creamy as the coconut milk bound the sauce and chicken together. The rice was fully cooked and the garlic naan was amazing! I stuffed the chicken and rice in it like a pita. Overall, I would definitely check this place out and order a spread of food to taste the different Indian food! read more

I don't eat Indian food that often. Not sure why I don't, I do really enjoy it when I do. I started with samosas(not pictures) which were absolutely fantastic. But, this green sauce played no small part to my enjoyment. It was refreshing, aromatic(from cilantro if I recall), and it just made everything pop! I kept it so I could eat it w other dishes. It was that good. For the main corse, I got the lamb korma, butter chicken, and a grilled meat platter(aladdin platter) which is composed of tandoori chicken, chicken and lamb tikka, and shrimp. Butter chicken and lamb korma were delicious. I liked meat of lamb korma more, but I liked dipping my naan in the butter chicken more. Their creamy masala sauce was the bomb! Their naan is extremely fresh, fresh as in just out of the clay oven so be careful! My desire to eat was greater than my senses tho, so I managed to tear it off despite my burning fingers, lol. Lamb korma is so extremely flavorful and tender. No knife necessary, well not even a fork. Just use a naan or fingers if you'd like. They do give you utensils tho. Butter chicken was also quite good, the sauce was the bomb, so good that I had to order another order of naan just so I could eat more after eating it w an order of naan and rice. The platter was the most disappointing. Tandoori chicken was juicy, smokey, and flavorful esp with the green sauce I saved from earlier. But, rest of the meat were dry and the shrimp was over cooked. The meats all have different cooking temperature, but it seems like they cooked them all together and while chicken tandoori was cooked perfectly, other meats were over cooked since they didn't have bones in them. I would recommend just getting the chicken tandoori, I don't think the tikkas would have been as good even if they were cooked right. If you are craving some Indian food, try here for some fresh naan and just go ham on butter chicken and lamb korma! read more

Absolutely horrid food. Today they had iftaar buffet special ramadan and works through a system where you get seated and served a plate with the things they put on it. Apparently I should have called ahead of time to get a proper plate fixed up???? What??? Okay so I messed up I guess. So I got leftovers, no warning nothing. Why would you not notify your customers that food is running out? Alright negative points for that. Now obviously since the food was served however I got it, it was served on a paper plate for my husband while I got a legit plate. Plastic spoons and forks of course. No glassware given to us for drinking just a water bottle about 10 mins in to eating. Why did we pick this place??? Bad idea... and also the rating is way toooo high! The interior looks unpromising when you walk in but then the room inside is nicely decorated, orange walls, nice lighting, decent ambience. But who cares if your food fails to please the taste buds. The place was bustling by the way, idk were they clueless? The rice was flavorless, the chicken was undercooked, pinkish and slimy, no joke. The fried fritters were soggy and tasted like sludgy batter of who knows what. The lentils were disgusting. Everything on the plate was rubbish. I got a mix of things that made no sense. The water however was authentic and delicious, thank god I had that to wash some of the disappointment down. $7.99 for this BS buffet plate? Okay whatever, what a waste of a meal, my time and the drive. I came here because Royal Kabob was closed. Wish this place was closed too :( never coming back read more

I was introduced to Aladdin Café & Sweets by my Godfather, who is the prodigal son in the hipster sense. He's introduced me to so many restaurants and venues off the beaten path, and I've always been very thankful. The restaurant itself is next door to a Bangladeshi grocery store. When you walk in, there is a deli counter filled with pre-made goods for take-out. Seat yourself, and the (sometimes slow) wait staff will greet you and give you styrofoam cups and a jug of water. For starters, I should say that everything here is disposable. Plates, plasticware, and cups. The pricing on the food is so reasonable, you wonder how they can stay in business. However, you might find where many places have low pricing, quality is scarified. Not here. I have always been impressed by the consistent and excellent quality of the food here. If you are wondering what Bangladeshi food tastes like, the closest comparison I can give is that it is similar to Indian food. Bangladeshi food is to Indian food what Arabic food is to Chaldean food. Not sure if that's a good comparison for those of you who aren't familiar. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are many shared dishes between Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine, however a few unique dishes as well. Start with an appetizer of chotpoti if you like spicy food, if not, get a samosa. Your entreé will always be served with either Naan or (delicious Basmati) rice. I usually get both, since I love both their rice and bread. The entreé itself is always a stew. For dessert, you can try their sweets, or just ask them for a Tea. It's sweetened with some sort of cream and has a very nice flavour. Not your regular tea. I've uploaded several photos of the food, check it out. I absolutely love this place. They have excellent food, reasonable pricing, and are open extremely late! Everyone that I have taken here has enjoyed it immensely. P.S. You can park right in front of the restaurant, but be careful when pulling over the curb. There's also a pole to avoid crashing into while pulling in and out. Otherwise, you can park on the street. Not the nicest area, but well worth the trip. Just be sure to lock your car. read more

**Not a hole in the wall cafe anymore!!!! Just added a real dining area!! **Look at the pics I uploaded! Aladdin now has a new dining area that is very nice. They still have the cafe side that's more of a dive but the prices are still cheap which is a good thing. Cheaper then any other Indian places. This is the first time I ever had regular plates, silverware, glass, & cloth napkins at this place. I even noticed a gated and very nice outdoor patio dining area! The food didn't change and my favorite, Chicken Tikka Masala, was still amazing! I love this place and I will recommend bringing people or dates here because it's not a shady hole-in-the-wall anymore. read more

Our server approached and asked what we cared to have. I told him "if you would... bring me the dish that you and your chef feel is the best representation of this place.... I will eat anything, so whatever will complete my experience, I would like you to bring it to my table." My dining companions and I were not disappointed. Karahi Gosht served over yellow rice, Tandoori chicken and some of the most amazing Naan arrived at our table for a perfect lunch. Aladdin is true Bangladeshi food, through and through. The emphasis is truly THE FOOD. Sparse decor, disposable plates and cutlery, paper cups - every bit of effort is put towards the food and the first bite confirms this. A hot Chai followed our meal - rich, full bodied and wonderful. The prices are extremely modest and I'd gladly pay double for the quality and amazing flavors I experienced. If you're looking for fancy, you wont find it at Aladdin... if you're looking for excellent Indian food - you wont be disappointed. Table service, carry out, delivery and catering available. I look forward to my next trip to Aladdin, it is worth every bite. read more

Everything- from the smiling and extremely helpful wait staff, to delicious Bengali food, from the extremely humble and sweet owner, to the convenient hours of operation. P.S- amazing hospitality- as a first time visitor, very few places have won my heart, this is definitely one of those that have. The owner offered me their classic chai just out of his generosity and was asking me to try pakoras. Aladdin is an unassuming restaurant that you could pass right by. We visited this past summer with those who had been here several times for some delicious goodness. I'm not mad at this restaurant. It is unassuming but well-kept. The parking situation is not ideal--but we're in Hamtramck so this is to be expected. What I loved about this place was the service and the pricing. I got Chicken Tikka Masala, with a massive side of rice and garlic naan for $9.00. This was their DINNER price. I could not believe how affordable this was. The food itself was just okay. I did not love the flavor of the rice. The chicken tikka was not the best I've ever had, but it also was not the worst. The naan was perfection, though, which is always appreciated. Overall, I would return for an affordable meal that will ultimately satisfy AND that I will get 2 meals out of (come thru leftovers!) read more

excellent food nice place to eat. this business since 1999 i start coming 2002 . they have outside patio good hangout place in summer

The food is decent. They were short staffed the night we went so that may have had something to do with it. My first time having Bangladeshi food so I really don't have anything to compare it to. I have had home cooked Indian food but not exactly the same thing. Servers were good. I had the Aladdin platter, not bad, but there was a meet in there that had a strange fishy taste but definitely was not fish. Also it says it comes with shrimp but it's only one shrimp, seems they should give you at least 3. It is very cheap though. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but I wouldn't avoid it either read more

This has to be probably one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. This is my second time here in Detroit and I found this place by accident. Now let me warn you that this isn't your fancy looking restaurant, in fact when you see it from the outside you will think it's just a walk in type of place but when you enter the back you will see a full restaurant. The staff may not be as professional as most places or as you think waiters should treat you but they are ok, they know how to take orders and get what you need. The food now, that's the hidden treasure, so good! The prices for the food is probably the best looking I ever seen for the amount of food you get! The vegetable samosas are good, the part I appreciate is the facts it's warm all the way through, which at many places it's gets cold in the middle, for a full course plus appetizer, expect to pay about $40.00. It's actually a Bengali restaurant. read more

The food is cheap and delicious. I've seen some people complain about bones being in the food. Meat cooked on the bone has much better flavor. Use your fingers and learn to love tendons. Sucking on bones is half the fun. They have a huge selection of vegetarian dishes but hippies beware: all the food is served on Styrofoam. Service is leisurely and sometimes they forget some of your order but you can walk into the kitchen to remind them. Nobody really cares. It's just really relaxed. They must pump valium through the airducts. read more

My girlfriend and I ate here for lunch - and it proved to be the best dining decision we made during our stay in Detroit. Unless I've got the urge for pierogis, this is my go-to spot in Hamtramck. If you don't mind eating on styrofoam plates and you enjoy a good spice, then this is the spot for you. You are usually able to get a booth without a wait although sometimes the small staff gets a little overwhelmed. I don't mind waiting as long as the food delivers and at Aladdin's, it does. Vegetable samosas are delicious and are served with an amazing green (curry i believe) sauce. I have tried a few different dishes on the menu but I always seem to resort back to the Lamb Korma. The almond, cocunut, and curry sauce just blends together beautifully without overwhelming your palate. Great vegetarian options as well. Both garlic naan and rice are excellent side options (main dishes come with one side) so you might as well order both. Wash it all down with a mango lassi and you've got an affordable meal which will leave your taste buds satisfied. read more

The food here is very good. Never mind the ambience, but the new outdoor patio is a wonderful place to chill and dine on a nice fall day! Came here with two others as part of a food crawl. As one of our last stops, we sampled their chicken tandoori, chakra dal, and mango lassi. Their rice is very fragrant, light and fluffy..probably one of the best rice executions I've had here in Michigan. Loved the mango lassi - rich, creamy, and full body of mango flavor..none of that artificial stuff, so I appreciated how much fresh mango was in that sucker. :) Chicken tandoori was tender, moist, and balanced in spices. One order yielded 4 pieces, and they were healthy sizes; great to share. I could eat one order myself with the basmati rice alone. Mmmmm :) Dal was flavorful, nicely pureed, and a nice texture...careful how filling it is because when it came out, we thought it would be no problem for us 3 to finish it. Boy were we wrong! We had wonderful service and had a great time out on the patio. Highly recommend having a group outing there in the daytime or early evening with a cool breeze. Tables are spaced out well if you're looking for privacy, but easy enough to arrange into close intimate gatherings for those who desire that. Bathrooms are clean I'm happy to report. Definitely plan to come back and try more of their menu! read more
