I own a home in the Galleria development in Sparks. I was one of their first purchasers in this area, and, while they initially seemed reputable, over time my opinion about them has degraded.
My most troublesome issue with them involves a roofing problem that I've had ever since the house went up. From day one, I had have a leak in the roofing tiles over my rear patio that causes the rainwater or snowmelt to actually flow beneath the tiles rather than on top as it should. As a result, much of this runoff doesn't get into the gutter back there, but actually drops from the roof onto the patio without ever entering the gutter. When I brought this to their attention, their response was to have a gutter guy simply tack some sheet metal onto the gutter where the gutter meets the roof. That had no effect at all, so I'm now in a fight with them to get this fixed properly.
Related to that, although in a different part of the house, I have a leak somewhere in the roof over my master bedroom that has apparently existed for a very long time, also. It has now leaked for so long that it has caused water to stain the ceiling drywall in that room. I have supposedly gotten their attention about this to the effect that their service people have finally gotten someone to come out to look at the stains and to try to figure out what's causing it. As of this writing, I am waiting for their service people to start the repairs, but so far they have failed to show up when they said they would, and I can't get anyone from their service department to respond to my messages or phone calls. It was only after I directly contacted the Service Manager and the Desert Wind owner themselves that I got any response. The Service Department point of contact initially tried to say that I had to undertake the repairs myself, claiming they had no record of my ever reporting these roofing problems. Fortunately, on my end, I have photos, videos, and all the messages that sent to Desert Wind when I first moved in and noted these issues. I am still under the home's construction warranty, so they are obligated to fix this.
I have also had electrical problems that seem to come and go randomly, so I'm worried that I might have an electrical outage or even an electrically-caused fire someday. I can find no open circuit breakers that would cause my lights to not function, nor can I find any reason why they would begin to work properly again after not working previously.
Given the choice, I would never buy another home built by this company. read more
