I move to the area last summer and found Desert Sun in Port Orchard where I now live. THE best people work at this location and have made my experience both informative and rewarding. David, Matias and Jaylen make me feel like more than just a customer, they offer info on new lotions,specials and how to get the most out of your time spent here. I have been tanning in booths for a very long time, I know what I'm talking about. I use stand up and lay down tanning beds, infrared pod and red light. -- Biometric Overreach and Zero Customer Respect I've been a customer of Desert Sun Tanning Salons for years without issue. At the Port Orchard location, that changed immediately. I visited on February 18 around 4:45pm expecting a routine appointment. Instead, I was told -- not asked -- that I had to scan my fingerprint or I would not receive service. No explanation beyond "that's the policy." No alternative offered. No discussion. I was not offered any alternative verification method such as presenting ID. It was simply comply or leave. Let's be clear: a tanning salon does not need my biometric data. Fingerprints are not a rewards card. They are permanent personal identifiers. Major corporations and financial institutions get hacked regularly -- expecting customers to hand over something that sensitive just to tan is unreasonable. What made this worse was the attitude. The interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily authoritative, as if questioning the policy itself was out of line. There's a difference between enforcing policy professionally and taking a hardline stance without regard for customer concerns -- and this felt like the latter. If this is now company policy, customers deserve: Clear notice before arriving A non-biometric alternative Basic respect when they decline Instead, I was effectively shown the door for not "falling in line." There are plenty of businesses that understand basic privacy, treat paying customers with respect, and don't make absurd demands just to perform their service. This is not one of them. I called to clarify why my husband could not end his monthly subscription over the phone and was told by Erin at the Port Orchard Desert Sun that it is because the federal government will not allow them to stop billing someone unless they physically come in and sign a paper. As I was asking her questions about this, she talked over me, repeatedly, acted very defensive and rude, and told me to call if I have issues. I was simply calling for information. I let her know I felt she was being defensive and she hung up on me. I would never do business here and at this point, probably not at any desert Sun ever again after being treated so absurdly not to mention how ridiculous it is that the federal government would create a law in which a tanning salon cannot stop billing a customer unless they physically sign paperwork. it's tanning, not medical care! read more

I went in for spray tan, they have a great first time online special! 3 for $55. I'm super pale, like when it came to melanin all mine are concentrated in all my moles. So I cannot sunbathe. Does me no good. Anywho, that being said, I must be super cautious of fake tan products. I've tried many at home, but I cannot for the life of me get my backside or legs even... just don't happen. So I came here to get it done. The girl at the front desk seemed to think I was similar in paleness to her and recommended a shade a bit too dark for me, so on day 3 I was looking a bit orange, thankfully it washed off fairly quickly. Unfortunately, in my excitedness, I forgot to listen to her directions and use the lotion on my feet and hands! Ugh, I regret that... it's slowly coming off. Thankfully I have no place special to go... just home and bumming around. At least my arms, shoulders and back look nice for tank tops, because it's hot right now! My legs didn't hold it, and they never do! I need to ask what more I can do, I shaved and exfoliated like a mad woman! Anywho, I'll be back, I have 2 more tries and I plan on just going with the lightest shade possible and just go back twice in 4 days or something, rather than too dark at once... Wish me luck! I called the salon on October 16th and asked for my account to be put on hold. I was assured it was on hold and I would only be charged 5.00 a month till I was able to use the account again. November 12th I called again because I noticed I was charged, I was told yes I see your account is on hold and we still charged you. The girl told me she would talk to her manager and I would be refunded ASAP. November 17th I called because I have not seen the credit come through, I was told that my account was never put on hold and I wouldn't be getting a refund. I was told that I can complain to corporate as much as I would like, but I would be transferred right back to the store manager and I would get no where. I am not sure if they have a new manager ( I know the old one was leaving, don't know when) but the service is awful. The condescending tone in her voice was so rude! read more

One star for the way your Port Orchard store is run. I made a formal complaint for the manager not only NOT wearing a mask but going through the whole store coughing without covering her mouth. For not cleaning beds: both obviously & putting the sign on - sanitized bed - and it smells of the previous occupant. Different rules depending on who is working & who the customer is. Manager has favorites for whom she saves beds. Manager locks door behind members when the store closes then opens it immediately to let in 4-5 friends. Manager & owner wanted me banned from the store because I made the formal complaint stated above. Manager was ALWAYS rude. Employees were kind & polite. When I called the Seattle corporate office I was told they didn't know anything about me being banned - yet that's where the manager told me the order came from. So please tell me why I would ever go back to a Desert Sun? read more

After having a horrible experience with this location, I called and requested that I change my package to the silver level tanning beds because I was not a fan of the mystic tan and the results it gave me....the employee said I could not do that, and that I can only relinquish my mystic tans to the site, I asked "to you?" she answered "yes, to our site" which means what? I pay, you use? And she agreed! I asked to speak to a manager, they did not have one there, the employee said she would have her contact me either later that day, or the following day....I am still waiting, its been over a year later! Horrible customer service, horrible policies! UPDATE: The NEW manager contacted me and took care of the issue I had...She is wonderful! I told her I was just happy that she contacted me, but after over a yr of being ignored by the previous manager, she changed my tan package just like that! She explained to me her goal to have great customer service, and make DS a great place....she is what this place needs! I frequent Desert Sun locations in the Greater Seattle area. While I appreciated how sweet the gal was, you could tell she was extremely overwhelmed and frazzled. She also did not inform me that the owners had recently replaced the bulbs in their 20min. beds and, even with getting out of the bed three minutes before my usual end time, I ended up burned. It's a smaller location, but parking is ample and there isn't a huge wait. read more

I don't understand why the ratings are low on this place ... my girlfriend and I come here ALL the time and these girls are Amazing !!! They are helpful and hook us up all the time with great info ! Be wary tho on rainy days make an apt they get booked fast and you may be waiting for a bed for a while . So make that appointment !!! :)) read more

My daughter and I have been meaning to write a post for weeks now, we always seems to be busy. Several months ago my daughter and I switched to Desert Sun after spending months at another local place in the area. We have to admit from day one, everyone was has been extremely professional, and cooperative. They are all very friendly and are always willing to answer any questions one might have. We have had the opportunity to use every bed in the center, we have even used the spray tan (NO STREAKS!!). There are many other places in town that one could tan at, but we strongly suggest several things to consider when choosing your place to tan; CLEANESS: Oh they all say they wipe the beds, but we know from bad experience that is not the case. Desert Sun, takes the extra time to make sure each bed is well wiped down and the entire area is clean. FRIENDLY: Ok many places have the A team working certain shifts and many places put there C team in on weekends. We can honestly say that the entire crew at Desertt Tan-Port Orchard simply ROCK!!! even the new employees, always willing to help. My daughter- Ashlee and I also must single out Jennifer and Kirsti. All the employees are good, but these two go the extra mile, we have had first hand experience in dealing with them. So when you reading reviews, we want to encourage everyone to stop by and try this place out, you won't be disappointed. read more

Love the friendly staff and equipment at this salon; the Mystic spray tan is my personal favorite! Low maintenance and the tan usually lasts for over a week. The spa services are relaxing and the body wrap room has Netflix to keep you occupied! read more

Called in to get a price on a spray tan and the lady put me on hold for 10 minutes. I called back and she tried to put me on hold again. I asked if I was gonna be put on a 10 min hold again for a question and she was very rude and said Yes I am with a customer! Just needed to ask a question and she blew me off. read more

Yesterday i was not informed that they had recently replaced the bulbs in the bed i was in and now i am terribly burnt.

I have been tanning at this facility for over two years. The customer service has been poor to say the least. The ladies at the front desk have often made mistakes as to how many tans I had remaining in attempts to sell me another package. If you call in to try and find out how many tans you have, you are placed on hold for long periods of time. I also have experienced the bulbs being changed and me not being told that before I tan resulting in my body burning. All in all I would not recommend this place of business. Unfortunately Port Orchard is limited on tanning options. read more

Bed tanning is good. Do not get a spray tan here! I had many streaks. Attendant left empty wipe container so I had to beat feet to get home to work on steaks. Ended up scrubbing whole thing off. This is what happens when you get a spray tan with a machine versus a person. Cali it up to experience. read more

The one star missing is for horrible lighting (specifically the Silverdale location) & the lack of in-room mirrors in the other kitsap country locations. I know that mirrors are a small thing and they do provide a large mirror for everyone to use. but I would love to see small personal mirrors and possibly personal lights in each room because I use the tanning stickers and nothing sucks more then to get undressed, apply your lotion, then put a minimal amount of clothing back on to leave your room to apply your sticker. then you have to rush back to beat your timer of 6 minutes. I have started to bring a small personal mirror to use when I don't go to Silverdale, but for $70 a month (not including the cost of lotion and other tan accessories) I would think a small mirror would be standard. I have tanned for years at multiple other locations in Kitsap and I have to say this is my first experience where this small feature is not included. read more
