We stayed here overnight in our RV. This casino is tiny, but it looks like a larger one is under construction. We went inside to ask for permission and the security lady at the door simply told us it was okay. We don't gamble but want to support the places we stay at so we decided to order take out dinner from their tiny cafe window. It was tasty, burgers, tater tots, fish & chips. It was frozen food, fried or grilled up, but tasty all the same-reminded me of a drive in dinner I use to frequent as a kid. read more

Crappy casino, not worth the stop on our trip. It is one of the smallest stinky casino I have ever been to.

Friendly, allows boondocking, has plenty of penny slots for wimps like me. Food was okay and they allow dogs inside, which is nice.

When in Modoc, this is probably the best place to people watch. The casino itself is just a couple of few wide trailers put together. I'm not a gambler AT ALL, but I went for food because everything is Alturas was closed. I ate a breakfast plate "the desert rose" at midnight lol. It was actually good for being a typical greasy spoon spot. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. I'll likely never be back but when in Alturas..... read more

Compared to Reno, or even the Sac. Valley casinos, this one is a joke. Always the same pop music or DJs. You should have more Country bands. This is not Vegas or New York or whatever. This is a very rural areas with cowboys, ranchers, etc. I am not one of those but I live here and still prefer country and related genres of music. Can you please be more accommodating to all your patrons, not just the pop culture lovers (there must be a plethora of them here)? read more

I've been meaning to give this place a review for quite awhile... . This has to be the crappiest casino I have ever seen! This place is literally a bunch of junky mobile home looking buildings pushed together. I ended up here on a whim as a dinner date with pretty young lady took a turn toward the fun side, and I wanted to see live music... OK so there was a live band playing there and the Saturday night crowd was non existent just some old nasty lookin drunks, but I was down for anything, I just wanted to have fun and listen to the music. After one drink the security told us to leave. Apparently there was some strange history regarding the company I was in, but no bad behavior was happening, or going to plus I'm a classy fun guy, so we left. The parking lot was unplowed and the ice was built up I slipped even being sober, and I guess (someone, not me) ran over one of the overfilled & unemptied trash cans that was placed in such a fashion that if other cars parked nearby it would get hit. The atmosphere was dank and nasty smelling of lost hope and cheap cigarettes. I would have gambled had we stayed longer so I can't review that. Soooo I'm probably 86'd from said delightful establishment but I think I'm OK with that. I had hoped to have a fun night there but it sucked. On the plus side having such an epicly good story about the worst casino crap hole on earth experience made my night and set the mood for a great time! read more

Set up in temporary buildings, gives it a very cheap and unappealing feel. Lousy band on a crappy stage with a good-sized dance floor, separate from the casino proper (which I like). However, when I was in, there was a loud, obnoxious, vastly over-served group of locals shouting and hollering over the music, stumbling around the bar and dance floor, spilling drinks that no one mopped up, bothering my group with frequent calls and jeers at us... And, to make it worse, they were shouting that one of them is an owner? Surely that can't be right... But she didn't seem to be paying for any of her drinks, the security staff watched them but didn't make any sort of move to control them or their behavior, and everyone there knew her by name, so... Yuck. Seedy little place full of obnoxious drunks. Will never, ever, EVER set foot anywhere near this place EVER again. read more

I stop by the casino every time Im in Alturas. The food is great every single time. Their parties are fun and very well put together. Even though its a smaller casino these folks work hard to make sure everybody is well taken care of. They have a very nice bar area with lots of sitting area and a huge dance floor. Very clean. Very good prices for food and drinks. They provide free rides home during their special events. Nice folks read more

I personally like coming to this establishment. It may not be the fanciest casino out there but it's great for where it is. Obviously it's not a million dollar place but it is clean and has enough machines for the people of the town. It's a place people can get together in a small community for reasonable priced food and drinks. The staff are always friendly and considerate. I enjoy listening to the bands on the weekend and playing pool. During the week it is very quiet and relaxing. You don't have to wait in line and you can hear what your friends are saying to you. read more

I don't think that the people writing some of these lousy reviews are talking about the same Desert Rose Casino that I visit on occasion... Aren't bar's suppose to be loud and people talking loud over music so there friends can hear them. Every time I have ever been in there the security staff, house keeping, bar tender's and cooks are all working there butts off to make it a safe and fun place to be... As for the music, everybody has there own likes, can't please everyone every weekend. For the most part the bands that play there have been "kickin butt"... I love the Desert Rose Casino and all the wonderful staff that work there, and thank you for making my time there so enjoyable... Sherri R read more

You guys need to lighten up a little I mean its not like you're in vegas, for what it is I like the place, is it a little funky and seedy looking ?? sure is. The crammed together trailers definitely give it an outwardly unattractive look and I m really not sure why they don't modernize a little but I mean really its pretty cool that they have something like this set up in a town as tiny as Alturas. I ve been coming here anytime we are in the area for almost 10 years now and have always liked the funkiness of it, have seen a few good bands play, and yea watched the drunks stumbling around the dance floor though have never had any trouble with any of them. Do wish there was more of a food option as all the other restaurants in town close up by 8 or so, and to be honest have never found the gambling to be that exciting. Nonetheless Id say if youre bored hanging around Alturas on a Saturday night ( which is a strong possibility ) its worth swinging in and having a drink. read more

this casino is small but is gr-8 to play at. food is great.everytime we go we have a lot of fun.give it a try,you will too.

As a resident of Alturas, there is not much of a variety in food and entertainment. We have a small town, and what can you expect from the Rainbow Casino? Las Vegas? The buffett on Sunday only cost about $10.00 dollars and they make a good omelet. The fried chicken is really good. I like the buffett at Rainbow much better than at the Lodge on California Pines and Rainbow gives free sodas. The beer selection at the bar is great for draft, and you can get bottles of Miller for a dollar. The food that is served is also really good. It may not be "In and Out" burger, but they don't charge tax. They had wide selection of burger, sandwiches; chicken, etc. My favorite is the BLT and fries are great. I don't gamble much there but the machines are electronic. I've had fun with them. As far as the bands go, there are professional sounding. They cater to country but play rock. Whenever I was there on Friday, the crowd was older. There are not a lot of younger people in Alturas, but they are around. I've never had problems with any other guests there, and the security was always very polite. I feel like "Norm" at Cheers when I go. All the staff has been nice to me except one time. One of the barmaids there asked me why I was ordering a beer in a pretend Scottish accent, and I told her I just bought a VHS tape of the movie the Highlander from 1986 that stars Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery from the library. I was doing my Connor MacLeod impression from the movie. She asked if I had many friends, and I said no. Then she said "no wonder." The Seneca cigarettes are $27.50 a carton and are good. Don't bad mouth the Rainbow Casino. They have free wi-fi and you can smoke inside the casino. As far as snow, its Alturas. They always have it cleared. They also host a great Halloween party every year and have other events there as well. We only have a Subway fast food chain in Alturas. We don't have Burger King or KFC. My life is much more exiting that we at least have Rainbow. It's the best place in town. Sorry, to others who don't like it. We are quiet people of the land and isolated. Redding, Ca, and Klamath falls isa far drive away. I like it here. I've lived in a city. read more
