Everything was great here! We stayed at the (pet friendly) hotel while driving by and wanted to get breakfast before getting on the road again, it definitely did not disappoint. My omelette was huge and delicious. I had leftover for later that night. Rib eye was big too and that biscuit was to die for. Also want to point out that our server Maria was excellent. Other servers passing by were also great, serving coffee refills as soon as the cup was half empty. The table we sat at was clean, plenty of sauces (hot sauces, mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc) and the decor was pretty cool too. We will definitely be back here if we're ever driving by and hungry. It was a little crowded and we had to wait a bit for the server to come grab our orders but it was a normal wait time from there on out to get our food. The gal filling up water glasses was the best water filler I've ever seen in a restaurant, almost to the point of too extreme but I'd much rather have a constantly topped glass than be parched, thank you very much. What I got: Classic Reuben sandwich - 5 stars for the sandwich. The bread that was touching the plate did get a little damp from being so hot, but I just flipped one side over before hand and that helped keeping from getting soggy. Sooo, visited here for the night as we traveled through. Unfortunately it was a Saturday night and reservations were needed for the higher end restaurant choice in the casino. The staff was friendly, but to be honest, the food is cafeteria grade. I returned the daily special of beef tips on pasta. The pasta was overcooked and the gravy had chunks of unincorporated broth paste, (seen on side of my plate). The waitress gracefully took away the plate and I replaced it with a chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla was just so so, no flavor and nothing to dip it in to add flavor. The decor is HORRENDOUS, but should attract time travlers yearning for those 70's glory days. The staff is... competent... for the most part. I was excited about some specials that they had for a ribeye with shrimp, and an option for prime rib. I ordered the ribeye and while the inside was cooked perfectly to medium rare, the outside was so charred that I couldn't even taste the meat/seasoning. My fiancée ordered the prime rib, and that was one of the driest pieces of meat that either of us have ever tried. Their breakfast options are subpar as well, and the eggs taste like they came from a carton. The good side is the drinks. I ordered a few "Macho Maries" and those were at least decent. read more

The meat here leaves a funny aftertaste. I would not recommend this place to anyone. My friend complained that her meal gave her food poisoning. It is hard to mess up hash browns but it seems like this place grabbed their potatoes right from the ground. The eggs were okay. On top of all of this it took 50 minutes for our food. My wife has Celiac disease and is very allergic to Gluten. I ordered a burger rare with bacon, sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese and a side salad. When I got back to the room the salad had croutons on it and the burger was well done ,the bacon was a few crumbs. I took both back and the hostess was very apologetic and had anew order placed. We looked at both and I noticed that everything was correct plus grilled onions. No problem she'll eat them. Half way through the burger there was a long blonde hair in it. Last time we eat here. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it had a very strange aftertaste that I couldn't quite place. Possibly from the packaging of the ground beef; it did taste synthetic and unlike any spice I've tried. The biscuit was dry, and crumbly (a matter of taste I suppose). The hash browns also had a very strange foretaste, and it is DIFFICULT to make hash browns taste poorly. I don't know much about this restaurant's food storage and quality control practices, but it would be no great surprise to me said practices were neglected or even negated. The reason I'm not giving one star: Esmeralda killed it with the service. I noticed that she was bussing and serving near every table in the joint. Still tipping her fairly though the food was poor. My fiancé ordered the shrimp and lobster macaroni and cheese. DO NOT ORDER A SHRIMP DISH. Their flavor was also off. My brother's fiancé ordered the shrimp Alfredo, and she concurred with my analysis of the flavor. I have been a front of house employee of several restaurants in California's Central Valley as well as a pantry chef at Oddfellow's Tavern in Woodbridge, CA and this is my take on "Desert Room". The Prime Rib was bland, the horseradish sauce was so watered down I had to pour the liquid out and even then you wouldn't know there was any horseradish in it.. very bland, tasteless. I've been coming to the Desert Room for many years now and finally getting around to reviewing it. This is very solid dining and I've never had a bad meal here. I recently had the veggie frittata (made to order and yes it can take some time but you're in a casino in the desert, what's the rush?). The frittata was delicious as were the hash browns with a crispy layer on top. The biscuits and gravy are also on point. Omelettes are really quite big and could be shared. We took leftovers back to our suite but the lack of a microwave meant we ended up tossing them, sadly. Another time we ordered the chimichanga with shredded beef. It was delicious. The beef was seasoned so well and anything but bland. I ordered the prime rib, medium rare, and it was perfectly cooked. It came with a huge baked potato and broccoli that was seasoned and cooked to perfection as well. The corn chowder is tasty too. My only complaint is that the prime rib and potato could have been warmer. Another time I had the chicken lettuce wraps. Also five stars. The service was stellar. I don't get the low ratings. Maybe some people lack good taste, because I'm pretty picky and this place has delivered consistently every time I've come here. I look forward to trying to the steakhouse next. We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite after checking in for the night. We were pleasantly surprised by the food & service at this place. We were seated promptly and was served by the lovely Amanda. She was polite & helpful. Husband ordered chimichanga & loved it. I ordered the Players Breakfast with extra crispy bacon & hashbrown. My breakfast came as ordered. Chimichanga came without fried jalepeno but it was quickly corrected by other equally helpful staff. We were impressed with Amanda. She took the time from her busy shift to listen to one elderly gentleman who came in for a dessert & watch a video on his cell phone & decided to share a funny tidbit with Amanda. He seems lonely. Amanda was kind & patient with him. We will stay at the Cactus Petes again the next time we traveled this way. She is a keeper! read more
