We we're in the casino and decided to grab something to eat. When we were seated there were 5 other tables with us made 6. I counted 8 employees. That being said it took over 5 minutes to get our order taken...another table actually had to flag someone down to get theirs taken So we ordered eggs bennedict, Patty melt med well. Probably took about 15 minutes for food to come.. acceptable But..eggs bennedict already had the film food with sauces get from sitting too long ..when I cut it for my husband it was not hot at all. My Patty melt was red inside.(remember med well) And burnt outside...any ways tried to eat as we were hungry. By the time server came back it was too late. And I won't send food back, due to past experiences (that's another story) Now we're ready to leave and not one employee can be seen, all disappeared somewhere, when they finally do appear we get our check and Box up food,(which we threw away) Will not eat here again. Server was nice, but inattentive. And I still left 20% tip .. Prices are in the high side, in my opinion. And at least for us the food was terrible! read more

Dined weekend 9/12,13 There are few places to eat at Cactus Petes and remains a good option. Both times good service, they were on top of the drinks and wait time was short. Day 1 had Cheeseburgers, they were huge patties very good, fries were nice and hot. Day 2 had Brunch - Ordered a Breakfast Skillet & Monte Cristo Sandwhich Breakfast Skillet good & hot, yummy Monte Cristo better then last year, hot and not too greasey(which was the problem last year) Had coffee day two and they stayed on top of refills as well. read more

An ok option for breakfast in Jackpot. Some of their prices are reasonable others a little high. Such as their ala cart biscuits and gravy are $5. Might as well skip getting coffee or a soft drink if you can wait and get it for free in the casino. read more

Well I'll start with the food, it was very good. The portions were Harty. The restaurant was clean. The But, but the service was really kind of bad from my perspective. So I get seated and I get water immediately from the bus Boy. He was very good. Then I sit there for somewhere between 5&10 minutes no big deal. Then the table next to me gets seated, a couple and the lady friend. Another few minutes goes by and the whole time I'm there after spending a couple of minutes seeing what looked good to me that morning I'm checking out the wait staff. it was kind of busy and there wait staff tending to the other tables in different areas of the restaurant. This whole time our waitress wasn't in the dining area, she finally comes out of the kitchen with a platter of food for one of the other tables. Our waitress serves that table there food and then takes the order of the three people that came in after me. At that point I look over my shoulder and as my eyes get focused on that table my eyes end up looking straight at the waitress because she is already looking at me. She then holds up one finger and tells me that she will be right with me. That was the turning point of my service, at that point we both the waitress and myself knew that she made a conscience decision to service the other table the higher tipping ( in theory - more people, more food, more money, bigger tips) table right away and make me wait a single guy. Now I've been told that my feelings show fairly easy, that I'm pretty transparent. By the time the waitress had taken my order I knew that I was going to get bad service. I really try not to give restaurant employees any reasons to dislike me the customer they are serving food to, you hear all sorts of horror stories about customer perceived to bad / nasty customers having things done to their food. But the whole rest of my time in the restaurant I was the asshole at table such and such. The waitress repeatedly checked in on the other tables ( she only had three tables including mine) asking them how was their food, could she get them anything else, really taking care of those other tables. My table how ever I had to flag her down just to get the check. Now I get it misperceptions, reading people and reacting to your perceptions it's human nature I think. But I still don't get it, part of your wages comes from your interaction with the customer, when I served my customers and got a bad one I took it as a challenge. I would at that point make that table my priority. Try to right the ship so to speak read more

I had stopped at the casino to try the buffet as I was planning to drive all night. The "Desert Room" was open and so with little else around I gave it a try, and very glad I did. First, the waiter, Joey was very very good, happy and also helpful. His recommendation of the build a burger was dead on and it was one of the better burgers I have ever had on the road. All the sandwiches and orders to other patrons looked excellent and LARGE. A very good place to get a good BIG sized sandwich or burger at a great price. What a disappointment have stopped several times over the years and was always happy. Today we were seated quickly and brought water right away. After no contact for at least 10 minutes and other groups who came in after us getting to order. I contacted the hostess and asked for our server no one ever came to our table. The place was approximately 1/2 full and appeared to have five servers and support staff who were clearing tables. I again contacted the hostess and asked for a manager. She said she could not locate the manager and said she had the Vice President coming to handle our complaint. Again some good amount of time passed and I was able to warn other people about the poor service. A man who identified himself as Tom wakes up and said what can I do for you. I told him what had occurred and he responded well it only took me 3 minutes to get here. I dispute that but who knows at that point it was over 20 minutes since we entered possibly longer. Tom offered no solutions and appeared annoyed that we bothered him. I told him that I was waiting for him long enough to advise other customers of our issues. He told me that I could not do that and his solution was to tell me that he would call security and have me removed. All he needed to do was give us a good server who wanted to work and apologize for the inconvenience. Apparently that skill was not something he was taught. I had the shrimp tacos. The shrimp was grey and the tacos were bland. My wife had the rib eye sandwich au jus. It was also unremarkable. We left a good amount of food on the table. The food, service, pricing, flavors and variety was good. My sweetie had a cream of mushroom soup and fish & chips, I had a side salad with a 8oz. Build your own Burger. Food service is not that difficult, serve hot food hot, cold food cold. The soup was tepid, the chips limp and soggy, the fish was mushy. However the burger what a hoot.....7 toppings on there of my choice, my salad was not crisp but had a tasty blue cheese and 1000 island. If food would have been more on point....BOOM...5 therefore it was okay but not could have been a lot better. We are finishing up a 4 month journey of dining in 5 states, a lot of great places, some so so. It has been a $20k trip that this couple will remember for a long time to come! read more

Just had the steak sandwich with waffle cut fries. There are short black curly hairs in them. When I brought it to the attention of my waitress she tried to tell me they're from the fryer. I picked one up and handed it to her after I pulled on both ends. It was a hair. Did not break after pulling it. If from the fryer it should have broke. I'm pretty grossed out. The Desert Room in Cactus Petes is one of the few options for breakfast when traveling through Jackpot. The bottom line is that you can get a standard, cafe-style breakfast in quick fashion. No frills, no gimmicks here. Biscuits and gravy, eggs, omelet and hashbrowns. Not the best I've ever had but far from the worst. The coffee was good and that's always important for an early morning breakfast before hitting the road. Throw a few bills in the slot machine or put a fiver on the Blackjack table on your way out for good measure. read more

It was late and we were hungry, this was the only place open. Overall, pretty good food. The service was very very good, the food tasty. The only reason I didn't award it 5 stars is because it is a bit on the pricey side. The shrimp wrap was very very good, I would order it again and again, my g/f fish tacos were decent, heavy on the cabbage and kinda light on the fish, good but lacked the WOW factor that my wrap had. Being in Jackpot, Nevada, there aren't a lot of dining options, especially in the daytime, to choose from, even fast food is out of the question. The Desert Room is one of the only lunch choices. The food is reasonably priced for being in a town that's more of a pit stop. My three tacos were composed of freshly made corn tortillas stuffed with a couple fried shrimp each, some lettuce and tomato, with a drizzle of a spicy aioli sauce. For the side, the was a small scoop of mexican coleslaw. The tacos were very good with the fresh tortillas, the shrimp were gently battered and the spicy sauce had great flavor. They were simple yet tasty, and even better, they were only $8. My husband had their chicken strips which were hand battered and fried nicely golden with the chicken inside moist and not dried out. The portion size was huge, about 1 1/2 whole chicken breasts and it was less than $12. It came with fries, but they let you substitute them for a side salad if you wish. I was a little wary walking in as it seemed like any country diner with bland food, but I was happily surprised with the food and the price. read more

I went here with 4 other people, and one person of 5 enjoyed their meal (he got a burger). I ordered the french dip and it was absolutely disgusting. The "meat" was literally grey in color and I'd say about 50% fat. The fat was white, slimy and gooey/stringy and just revolting. I didn't even want to just eat the bread because it had touched that meat. The french fries were gross too, one of which actually tasted exactly like mold. Several others were undercooked and cold. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The waitress took about 30 minutes to get to our table for the checks, then another 20-30 to process the bill. read more
