This was a few weeks ago, but I dropped into this place last minute hoping for some luck on getting my overdue dog groomed. The groomer woman was very nice and accommodating, told me to come back around noon and she could get her done then. Dropped my dog off at noon, and she told me it would take about 3 hours, and to come back then. When I returned for my dog around 2:45, the groomer told me she was unable to get my (6.5lb) dog out of the cage because she was "too afraid".... this is not the temperament of my dog at all. She asked me to come back to the kennels to get her out for the groomer, and my poor pup was shaking in the corner of a kennel completely untouched. She had not been bathed, brushed, or even touched the entire time she was waiting there for almost 3 hours!! I understand if things get busy or if my dog is not cooperating, but where was the communication??? My dog spent close to 3 hours in an unknown kennel all while a "mystery dog illness" is going around plaguing dogs....come on....do better than this Desert Dog Spa. If you were too busy to take her, then you should have just told me that. If you needed help getting her out of a kennel, you could have called. There is NO reason my dog needed to sit in a kennel for 3 hours being traumatized. None. read more

I've been bringing my Jug (Jack Russell/Pug mix) "Lena" to Tara the owner of Desert Dog Spa on a regular basis for years. The skills and knowledge she puts into caring for my dog is so comforting. Trust me not all groomers are the same. It's nothing short of a blessing that I discovered Desert Dog Spa. A Sunday drive brought me to Cavecreek years ago and while making a stop at cave creeks Dairy Queen and taking in the sites was when I gazed upon the Desert Dog Spa sign tucked away in the corner next door to the Dq . Having been to numerous groomers in my part of town none of them ever conveying to me that it was safe for me to leave my dog in their care while I ran errands. So I would sit and wait and watch them drop the scissors and groom my dog and whether it was my being there to observe or not that made them uncomfortable. I dont know . But It was enough for me to say they weren't good enough for my standards. I don't think I'm asking for a lot. I'm not rich by any means but I won't settle for mediocre. So finding a groomer that has the skill set that could yield a champion show dog but at a price that won't break the bank. Impossible and I thought it was. Until I met Tara at the Desert Dog Spa in cavecreek. I live over twenty miles away from her location. But I wouldn't trade the feeling of comfort that it brings me to know that my dogs in the trusted care of Tara and Desert Dog Spa for anything. Took my dog there. Easy to deal with, lady was nice and my dogs hair looks incredible. She is so fluffy

First class grooming and gentle care to the dogs. Quiet environment and not too many dogs at once. I stayed and watched quietly a few times. My Mom has been going here for many years and to the excellent veterinarian a few doors to the left. Her Westie's have always come back happy, proud and spectacular. Her 3rd pair of Westie's now! I have a rescued white Maltese/Yorkie and the same, excellent job. Very happy. They know what they're doing and want to please you. And they seem to really care and love the dogs. You'll see. They're wide open and you can see everything from the front counter. And I've noticed that the dogs are happy to go, not scared to death or unhappy when you go there. No panting, or trying to make a break for the door, Like at the vet! ;) Think about it, I've had a dog in the past in another state, that was hurt by someone not careful with her toe nails, at a Texas groomer. She would never again in her lifetime allow nail trimming without a terrible fight, or not freak out going back there. The lady that runs this business is so rude. She had told me 3-4 hours for my dog, so I made appointments for after 4 hours. I hadn't heard so I figured I would just pick up my dog, and if she wasn't finished, I'd just take her how she was. The lady was rude to me about this, slammed cage gates and doors as we were leaving. If she's this aggressive with me, I'd hate to see how she treats the dogs when they aren't cooperating. read more

Awesome job! My two black Labs got the royal treatment at Desert Dog Spa. Shampoo, de furrrd, nails trimmed, and she even tied a bandanna around their neck! When I picked them up, they were relaxed and happy. You can tell Tara loves animals! Fair price and excellent service is a great combo. read more

Brought my Border Collie there for about three years. Now...just wanted her nails trimmed. Charged me $15 for about 2 minutes of work, that should have been gratis. Not going back...and some attitude on the part of the 'help'. Nope. I'll spend the $75 elsewhere. read more

I brought my 2 dogs here in the summer - their haircuts were good the first time. I brought them back in September and I truly don't think they were even groomed. Their coat was the same length and just as unruly as it was when they went in 5 hours earlier. Their nails weren't trimmed either. I don't know if they just didn't have time to get to them and tried to pass it off or if they just didn't bother. I just took my dogs and left - I was pretty dumbfounded. I won't be back - there are too many other great groomers in the area to pick from. read more

Dropped my pup off at 10 am and got him back around 2:30pm. When I picked him up from desert dog spa he reeked of cigarettes and perfume. His cut looked great but the smell was nauseating. I immediately went home and gave him ANOTHER bath to remove the disgusting smell. read more

I have a bulldog anybody that owns a bully breed knows they are definitely a diff breed (oh lord) anyhow I had been turned down at a couple other places because of Mickey's breed they were immediately intimidated not taking into consideration that he was an abused dog and I rescued him about 8 months ago so it's a work in progress anyhow desert dog spa cheerfully accepted Mickey with all his quirks I won't lie I did stay and help and I got a bath along with Mickey but the service was exceptional and we got the job done thank you very much read more

I have used Desert Dog Spa for probably over a year after it being recommended by a friend with two standard poodles. I have a toy poodle who as a puppy was given the usual shots only to find after many months and much money spent that the shots broke down her immune system. Therefore, she is very delicate healthwise and stresswise. I found HEATHER, after calling about ten grooming spas who would not consider grooming Brandi while I waited thus making the time involved an hour vs. many hours which is so much better on her system.
