Dominating at Crossfit!
Tanya Y.

I've had an interest in CrossFit for a while, but it wasn't until today that I finally gave it a go and I have to say, I don't think I would've found a better gym to start at. The coaches spent the time demonstrating everything we'd be doing, having us practice each position, making corrections to our form, and actually cheering us on. None of us had ever done CrossFit, but there was no intimidating feeling and even when I was messing up, I didn't feel embarrassed. The environment that they create gives you that drive to do your best and push yourself. From what I gathered, Desert Devil is one of the newer CrossFit gyms on the market. They're still working out some minor details like signage visible from the street, but if you plug in their address on GPS you won't miss it. I don't know what parking is like during their normal classes, but if you can't park right at the gym you'll still be able to find parking on the street. We took their 10 AM class on Saturday that was a free introductory class. CrossFit workouts are dynamic and there can be a lot of different options for every workout so if you want to get a feel for CrossFit or maybe just work on your form, this is the perfect class to drop in on. You can sign up for the class online through their website, super easy. The class went through the basics. The first half was focused on learning each move and proper technique and the last half was an actual workout. What I liked the most was nobody was pressuring me to go harder or go faster. Everything was more about motivation. And we were even reminded a couple of times that it's okay if you have to take a couple of seconds to shake it out. You're competing with yourself, trying to do more each set, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. It was all very one-on-one, but I got to set my own pace because who knows my body's limits better than myself? Really great team! Nice, open facility. Just all around a great gym for anyone, beginner or experienced. Even if you're in El Paso (like me) and just want to learn about CrossFit and figure out if this is the workout for you, I'd recommend this be your first stop. Oh and shout-out to Elyssa for killing it on those box jumps!

After the workout, I had the opportunity to chat with the owner, Jeremy, and he was a super nice guy.

Joined using their Elements/On ramp program. I had never done CrossFit before and I was really glad…read morethey had this program. Been doing regular Crossfit classes here for about 3 months and I love it! Breakdown: Coaches: I found the coaches to all be really nice! They definitely know what they're doing and they all have different areas of expertise. A lot of them have a background in some sort of PT or exercise. Equipment: Up to date equipment! I have yet to see any broken equipment. They mostly use Rogue equipment, which I personally prefer. Environment: Very clean. I've been here in the late evening and they have someone clean the gym everyday, which I appreciate with how much people sweat here. They also have a 2nd location on Carnegie Ave closer to Fort Bliss. It's smaller but it's still clean, fully equipped and really nice. People: Everyone is super nice and I the best aspect of Crossfit is that every one cheers each other on despite your skill level. People here come from different fitness backgrounds but they all want to improve and be the best they can be. Classes: I like that they have early morning classes and late classes. I like the regular Crossfit classes but they also offer FemmeFit (Crossfit for women), Crossfit Kids, and Fit Club (Weightloss program). They also have Open gym's on Thursdays so you aren't constrained to just doing a preset WOD all the time. Price: It's a very good membership price especially for Crossfit and the area. And trust me, I shopped around. People can complain all they want about the prices here, they offer a tremendously great deal for the quality you get. Remember, you get what you pay for. Yes, you can take "crossfit classes" at EP Fitness, but it's far from the same quality, plus they aren't Crossfit Affiliated. Give it a try, I don't think it hurts to try, and I think it's been one great experience.

I travel all over for work and have dropped into a lot of boxes. That being said this one is now…read moreone of my favorite. What a great group of people and coaches! This is by far the most accommodating and welcoming gyms around. If you're looking to get in shape or dropping in from out of town make sure to check out Bull Strong!

This is what I'd call the perfect lunchtime workout. It's short, it's to the point, and it's a…read moretotal vibe. You're in, you're out, and you get a great sweat in without derailing your day. Plus, there's a shower (huge win), multiple bathrooms, and a water station -- all things that make a mid-day class actually doable. What I Liked: * Outstanding customer service and outreach. Before I even stepped into my first class, I got a call, text, and email -- all friendly, professional, and super helpful. They even follow up afterward, which shows they care about building real relationships. * Top-notch coaching and community. Every coach I interacted with was phenomenal. They give you a full tour, introduce you to other members before class, and explain everything thoroughly. The environment feels really welcoming, with a nice mix of FIT regulars and people newer to their fitness journey. * The workout itself. It's that functional fitness franchise model we've all seen -- but with its own flair. It's high-energy, fun, and easy to tailor to your level. I took an upper-body (arms) workout and it hit all the right notes. * Warm-up, finisher, and stretching. We started with a proper warm-up, which I always appreciate, and ended with a core finisher on the floor that was surprisingly tough -- in a good way. I loved that they wrapped it up with some stretching afterward. It felt balanced and intentional from start to finish. * The setup and vibe. The lighting was phenomenal, the sound system and microphone were on point, and the music choice was great. I loved the projector screen announcements -- such a professional touch -- and the club-style lighting really elevated the energy in the room. * Tech + instruction. You get a mix of live, verbal coaching and virtual instruction on the screens, which I actually really liked. It keeps you moving without confusion. * Amenities & details. Clean facilities, well-organized stations, and great overall flow. And yes, they've got some pretty solid swag (even if a little overpriced). * Potential for growth. I could definitely see this franchise expanding across the Southwest. I'm already looking forward to their East Lake El Paso location opening. What Could Be Better: * No ClassPass access. That's a tough one for travelers or anyone trying to sample studios before committing. * Easy to slack if you're not self-motivated. Since it's a self-paced station setup, you really have to push yourself to get the most out of it. If you've got that internal drive, though, it's a great system. * Swag pricing. Like I said -- love the merch, just wish it was a little more reasonable. * Station layout and class size potential. The instructor mentioned the class can hold up to 42 people, which honestly seems wild. I only had about 15 in mine, and even then, the stations weren't anywhere near each other -- I was running from one end of the room to the other every time the timer went off. I actually like the timers, but the setup felt chaotic. I can't imagine 40+ people doing that at once without bumping into each other. I get that it adds steps, but having the stations in order would make a lot more sense. * No mats for floor work. The finisher and stretching were great, but doing them directly on the floor wasn't ideal -- especially after getting sweaty. A mat option would make that part a lot more comfortable and hygienic. Overall, this was a great experience. The staff, the energy, and the format all make it a fun and effective workout. I left feeling accomplished, not exhausted, and I'd definitely come back.
