I wish that I could say that Brian did a great job. He's not a "bad" dude, but I will never, ever, ever do business with him again. The insane experience I have had with him, would take a half a year. After checking all out for Brian (making sure he is a licensed contractor, bonded, with no complaints, and a good record with the ROC). This was in late February, before these other negative complaints hit. He was supposed to start first week of March. I deposited the cost of new cabinet doors ~4,250 (shaker style), and waited for them to be ordered. Guess what? The Brian Hilliard trend of screwing people over, continued. He hired (literal) addicts to paint the cabinet boxes, which was supposed to take two days, took 6+ weeks. The doors never came in, his crew bad mouthed him, and said that he wasn't being honest. He would be "working" until 9-11 pm at our house, trying to make some janky cabinet fronts look "acceptable". The ending of the story is, he forgot to order the cabinet doors with the 4K+ I gave him, hired some dude that had never made cabinets before, and the whole thing was a wreck. I hired someone to come and do measurements, ordered the doors directly from elite woodworking (Kathy) who helped deliver high quality cabinet fronts, and had to hire someone else to come in and complete the job. All in all, it took over four months, over a thousand text messages, too many no shows, and promises of payback, since I essentially had to hire someone else to do the job. The dude owes me over 4K, and it's just.... Terrible. Also, they trashed my yard, left their garbage, cigarette butts, food, tools, everything behind... still infuriating, and it's been two and a half months. read more

We had another amazing experience with this company! This is actually the second time we used them to refinish the cabinets in one of our homes. We had a color in mind and Brian worked diligently to match it and the quality of work was absolutely top of the line. The crew of cabinet specialists were extremely friendly, reliable, and genuinely wanted us to be happy with the cabinets at all cost. They cleaned up everything after the work day before leaving the house, which in our experience does not happen often! I used this company a couple of years ago to refinish my kitchen cabinets with decent results. I referred them to 2 friends in the neighborhood and I sorely wish I had not! There were definite service problems with the first friend and serious issues with the other friend, as well as the fact that he failed to get back to me (despite multiple phone calls and text messages) on the request for some touchups. Supposedly he offers a 10 year warranty. Good luck getting him to follow through on that. I would not recommend this company again. read more

Brian Hilliard has lost our cabinet door and has $590.00 of our money from our down payment made, March 25, 2021 from work never done. My husband and I have 27 text messages from Brian Hilliard that are constant excuses as to why he cannot make it to our home to a) Bring our cabinet door by or b) Return our money. Turns out he admitted to losing our cabinet door. We then asked for the return of our $590.00 plus the cost to us of replacing our cabinet door. Again, text messages saying how sorry he is for not being able to make it to our house, too busy on other jobs. Hilliard's Invoice has the "Accredited" seal of the Better Business Bureau, the company, Desert Cabinet Refinishing, is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. I just want to start by saying, heed the implied warnings of the negative reviews as they are pretty much spot on. If I could give less than a one star review, believe me, I'd give it. However, I am always impressed with a company owner who personally responds to his negative reviews. Now I'm more dialed in as to why. He is a word wizard. He will talk and talk and talk circles around you and give excuse after excuse, but work and any action will not get done. This is a contractor who continues to promise things with zero follow through. Zero. I booked him for a job starting April 5th and regretfully gave him $627 deposit. I confirmed the week before that he still had me on his books for the 5th and asked what time to expect him. He said between 9:30-10:00. At 10:52 am NO SHOW. I texted him and didn't hear back from him until 5:00 pm that night. "sorry, stuck on a job, be there tomorrow between 9:30-10:00". Next morning 10:15, again, a NO SHOW. no communication. Calls me and says he'll have to move the job to that Friday the 9th. I asked when. "Between 7:30-8:00". Naturally, after 8:00 and no show AGAIN, he responded to me that he'd come get the doors and drawers between 10:30-11:00. Once again got delayed. He told my husband a long thing about not having a car. at 12:25 STILL NO SHOW. and we cancelled him, requested my deposit back. I've read other negative reviews. Close to the same experiences. SINCE then I've been dealing with this same behavior fighting him to get my deposit back. He originally sent it through his little Square Visa thing but it never hit my bank and the receipt on the Square Link has disappeared. Even he couldn't see it anymore. So then he says he'll Zelle me the money. He played the same game Zelle'ing the money to me as he did with the job. Excuse after excuse after excuse. Be very very careful when/if you decide to give him your money. I wouldn't give him any money til you get the work done. Do your research before you hire him. read more

Six months later I remain thrilled with the cabinets, but the front door needed a redo. I woke up last Wednesday morning to find out that the cabinet refinishing company that refinished my bathroom and kitchen cabinets back in February erroneously charged my credit card $1900. Now, just to be clear, when the work was done, 7 months ago, I paid for all services in full. So I reached out to the owner of Desert Cabinets, Brian Hillard, and was told this was some crazy computer glitch on behalf of Square Inc, a financial services, merchant services aggregator, and mobile paymentcompany that he used to take my original payment back in February. He mentioned that he may have ignored an alert from the company to change his customer password and that it might be that his account was hacked. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, after he spoke to Square, Inc, and was told that the charge reversal would come through immediately. I've spoken to him daily listening to a million excuses and finally need to sit down and make possible future clients aware of how unprofessional this business owner is. I truly believe that this man knew what he was doing all along. Down on his luck and scamming old customers to raise cash. I'm appalled and hope that anyone considering using this business will reconsider. This is an update: Today, 9 days after the funds were erroneously charged to my credit card, the owner has returned the funds to me. Brian and his company just completed remodeling our kitchen and they did a fantastic job! We had good solid cabinets, raised panel oak 42" , so we were not looking to replace them but wanted to have them refinished for a new look. He had done 3 jobs for my clients prior to them putting their homes on the market so I knew that he did excellent work. We had the kitchen, wetbar area, 3rd bath and hall cabinets redone and hardware installed. They offered us many choices with the stain, and they also added 4" crown and an 1"undermount moulding. The job took about a week, the crew was on time and they cleaned up and once it was finished it looked like a brand new kitchen. We went with a darker stain so the cabinets don't appear as an oak cabinet. We LOVE our kitchen and would highly recommend them to anyone considering this type of project! read more

We recently bought a home that was not as maintained as well as it should have been. The 2001 kitchen cabinets where a good quality cherry wood and the footprint was fine, but the lower cabinets were a wreck. It was almost as if kids had raced trikes through the kitchen for several years. We evaluated new cabinets or having the current ones refinished. In an effort to make a determination on how to move forward, we gave Desert Cabinet Refinishing one of the small drawer fronts to do a sample re-stain on. The sample turned out beautifully and we had the Desert Cabinet team refinish the entire kitchen, which included adding new handles and soft close hinges. The quality of their work was nearly perfect and the rich color was consistent through out. We had them tone down the cherry red color with a more updated light walnut look. He was easy to schedule with, came on time, and did the work as he said he would. He even worked around other work we were having done before we moved in (interior painting). When we had to troubleshoot something (not something he did) after the job was done, he was happy to help us. He brought us touch up paint and walked around the house with us to make sure we were happy with all of the work. 1 star is generous. Brain and his team were awful. They never showed up on time, if at all. When they did show up, it would be for 1-2 hours and then he'd run off to another project. We would get the constant run around "i'll be there tomorrow at 10:00 am" and then not show up for 3 days. A 2 weeks project took 5-6 weeks before we fired them. Cabinet finishing was poor, sections still had primer on them. Door and drawer faces that were re-installed weren't aligned. Hinge prep work was beyond bad. They got over spray on newly finished walls, outlets covers, and appliances. Cabinets has a chalky touch and appearance to them. We ended hiring someone else. The second guy took 1 week to take everything to his shop, re-finish everything, and re-install everything. read more

I do not recommend this company. Their work was not completed with detail and they missed many spots on our cabinets. I have called the owner, Brian several times to schedule his workers to come back and touch up, however he never calls me back. The cabinets should not be chipping already. I don't think any protective coat was used and they also got the paint on our walls. I could tell the workers were doing a project that they were not familiar with. They reinstalled our panels incorrectly and left masking tape inside all of our drawers and cabinets. We also had to have the home professionally cleaned afterwards because it was so dusty and dirty. I had them refinish 20 year old bathroom cabinets that were a honey oak color. They did a perfect job, they worked hard to make several color samples until I had the new color just right. The workmanship was excellent, I will use them again for my kitchen Island.
