Great place! Friendly and clean with a great view. Only one thing was negative: no FartFan in the bathroom.

The rapids, those crisp, roaring punctuation marks, start writing the kind of afternoon you'll replay in your head for years. Then Alex, our guide, takes the mic. With the charm of a seasoned showman and the precision of a scientist, he turned a whitewater rafting adventure into something unforgettable. His wit is sharper than a dry martini. His knowledge of the river and the volcanic bones beneath it is the kind of insight that makes you feel smarter just for listening. He doesn't just steer the raft. He steers you through time, weaving in the geologic history of the canyon walls while pointing out an osprey nest perched high above, hatchlings inside, chirping beneath the wind. You hear the rapids before you feel them. Then comes the dance. Navigating tight fits between boulders. Gliding effortlessly over shallow shelves. The raft lifts and drops like it's in on the secret. The kids laughed. The adults let go. And when the moment was right, we jumped in. Cold, clean, and utterly refreshing. A shock to the system in the best possible way. It's family friendly in the purest sense of the phrase. Thrilling, but never reckless. Informative, never dull. Wild, but still welcoming. The Imperial River Company doesn't just offer whitewater rafting. They offer escape. The kind where you stop checking your watch and start listening to the water, the birds, the laughter echoing off canyon walls. Book the trip. Ask for Alex. Let the Deschutes show you what summer is supposed to feel like.

We were here in the middle of the week and were fortunate to have the entire grounds to ourselves. I found the hikes and trails super easy and well-groomed. Breakfast was perfect: hard-boiled eggs, chilled oats, coffee, yogurt and fruit. The barn kitchen had everything to cook an excellent meal. We ended up never going out for dinner. We just stayed in and cooked. Darren, our host, was friendly and kind. Zia, our yoga teacher, led a dynamic yoga session and was a delight to talk to. Best of all, we got to sleep in a comforble tent under the stars. We got to see constellations and shooting stars! We could hear coyotes in the distance. Duriing the day, we saw a family of deer on our hikes. Definitely bring flashlights, sunblock, bug spray and a good book, if you plan to visit. There are some games (Uno, cards, etc.) at the barn, so no need to bring your own unless you want to play in your tent. In the dining area outside the barn, you can okay horshoes, Cornhole or bocce. If you're looking for a romantic vacation somewhere remote, that includes the outdoors but without sacrificing all the comforts of home, this is it!

DISCLAIMER: Yes, yes, I'm a pretty-active Mazama so I am obviously biased!…read more I have had many, many fond memories of staying here. I've taken all the Mazamas climbing classes and now I help with many of them. BUT, FEAR NOT, you don't have to be a Mazama to stay here, not at all (and you might even enjoy the experience MORE if you don't know anything about mountaineering). Think of this as your hostel on the mountain! You can get a bunk here for pretty cheap, probably cheaper than anywhere else in the area. The only catch is that you'll have to hike about 5 minutes to get to the lodge and you have to bring your own bedding. If that sounds too stressful for you, I'm not sure what you're doing on Mt Hood...I hear there are some nice beaches in Florida. There is a huge drying room downstairs, the main room has a rustic fire place, and the top level has all the bunks. You can see the summit of Mt Hood from the rear deck, you can walk to "down town" government camp if you want to experience some rousing night life, historical photos and objects adore the walls, what more could you want? The staff here works hard and is incredibly friendly. You can get a hot dinner or breakfasts and dine with the staff and the other guests; you can even get a sack lunch if you plan to be up on the mountain all day.

They offered to comp us on another stay and we took them up on it. We were there both times in off season (good discounts) so not many guests. The RV park was quiet this time and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We like that the overnight guests have sole access to the pool area in the morning and evening. Soaking in the morning was delightful with not so many people around. I agree with others that the food offerings could have been much better altho the fry bread and nachos were really good - albeit not very healthy. Both times we were there the bathrooms were nice and clean and warm. Maybe the hotel is different, but we didn't have to pay for towels as another review stated (maybe they were actually day use folks?) . We only ran into friendly staff. It's not close enough that we would go their every year, but we will likely go again in a few years after they do more of their planned upgrades.

The burger and fries were good enough to cure my bathroom pains but the pool seemed to have gotten a lot smaller. I enjoyed the dual tent chairs, they lowered the price of them at 3PM. Other than additional seating and the cabanas, I was pretty underwhelmed by their "renovations"
