I am being 100% honest when I write this: the Oasis burger at the restaurant there was THE BEST burger I've ever had. I don't say that lightly; as a big dude with a hearty appetite, I've eaten plenty of smash burgers, backyard burgers, and sad excuses of "meat between bread" that lesser joints call a burger in my adult life. But this - this was true artistry. I may even be tempted to make the 2+ hour drive from my Metro-area burb just to come get another of these burgers. Don't be discouraged by the small building that looks like a mashup between grandmas house and a fishing lodge- good food awaits! Note of warning: be prepared to wait. the place is not big, and can only make so many burgers at a time. A lot of the rafting tours end around the same time, so if you time it poorly you can get caught behind a crush of orders. Pack your patience in this case. read more

Okay, so I've stayed here overnite two separate times within the same week. Best think of it as a trial run for TINY HOUSE NATION. If you ever thought you'd like to live in a tiny house, try Cabin #6 on for size. CABIN #6 -- I grew to love it. We are two unrelated people in this space. Has a coffeemaker...a double bed...a kitchen table that has an expandable leaf...cool stool-like chairs for wide butts or you can straddle them like a hobby horse (love these stools)...a small frig with a freezer that works...and the best feature of this tiny space -- the shower. Only a shower curtain separates the toliet and sink and the towel rack. In other words. don't bring your dry clothes into the bathroom in you plan on a shower. HINT: The left knob is the hot. I suggest turning it on, then adding the cold water to customize. OR ELSE you learn the hard way. PROS: The towels smell fresh and feel fresh. Those kitchen stools. The cuteness of this cabin. Friendly reminders about the sugar ants (put up your food to keep them out.) The fishing theme to the curtains and general decor. Curtains separate the bathroom from the sleeping area, so I wished for a door because the curtain didn't quite close the gap for privacy. CONS: General gooey feeling from the bedspread. The bed dipped towards the middle, so tends to roll the sleeper to the middle. HINT: Just put your sleeping bag on it and sleep on top, or remove it. The paint in the bathroom and shower are peeling, well, just don't look very closely. I found some interesting critters in the shower...but hey, it's a cabin. CABIN #3: A bigger cabin, with two double beds. We were now four people. There's a microwave, coffeemaker...a built-in breakfast nook like a picnic table indoors, very nice. I found this cabin had lots of windows with views of neighboring cabins and neighboring activities. HINT: Close the blinds. PROS: Cool swing outside this cabin. Also tables and chairs to chill or to use as a staging area for drying wet clothes. CONS: The wooden door to the bathroom slides, or rather sticks, not easy to close. So now I'm wishing we had the door curtains just like in Cabin #6, but since there were children sharing this room, best to have the rickety difficult door. OVERALL: I enjoyed this tiny house experience. Perfect for two people. It'll test your friendship or relationship, but with communication or familiarity, you can be harmonious in these tiny cabin. Good location, close to river....and to a small market...and to two places to eat...THE RIVERSIDE (pricier but with an outdoor dining deck)...and THE OASIS, which serves up a diner experience and as the check-in office for the cabins. Fun rustic experience. Reasonable value at about $80 per nite for Cabin #6 with the double bed. Also the cabins are clean. The place is not lux, but it's convenient. Discounts available on internet if you search it. read more

We were greeted immediately and they told us our cabin was already prepared and door unlocked. The most adorable cabins, with such an amazing history. Best food in Maupin. We've eaten at all the restaurants in this town and this is the place we return to every single time. It's a 1950's diner that still does things the old fashioned way - everything made fresh and cooked to order. Best burgers (MUCH better than the restaurant 2 doors down), and best hand-scooped milkshakes ANYWHERE (seriously) we have ever had. Our favorite is strawberry, but you choose what you like. Great home cooked breakfasts. They make all the food here from scratch with higher quality ingredients than the other places in town. Don't miss Oasis Diner anytime you come to Maupin. I haven't stayed here, but the diner is absolutely delicious. Everything I've had has been very, very good, and prices are reasonable. Can personally recommend the pulled pork tacos, the pulled pork quesadilla, and the biscuits and mushroom gravy, but can't wait to try more of their stuff. read more

This is a fun little campground. Mostly just a green grass field with picnic tables. We camped here while we rafted down the deschutes river. It's really pretty clean. No fire pits though. We had the best time in sweet little cabin 2: charming decor; lovely, shady grounds; yummy cafe; and super friendly, helpful staff. It was a hot day when we arrived, and the AC was already cranking at check-in, which is always awesome. The whole Maupin/Tygh Valley area is really delightful. I Planed a bachelor party for a party of 8. We needed a place to over night for 2 days. Oasis made it happen and our stay was amazing with live music in the evening. There cabins were clean up to date. Their diner served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They cooked their food on the menu with pride & excellence. There was not one complaint from any of us. Spent the weekend here for the annual motorcycle poker run and was SO GLAD to have this spot as our launch pad to explore the area. What a wonderful little place with awesome vibes and great food. The burgers are amazing, the milkshakes are *chef's kiss* and the staff are all so friendly and accommodating. There was live music on Friday and Saturday nights and it was SO dreamy sitting outside under the rustling trees as a train rolled by in the canyon in the background and the birds were chirping along to the music. Had fish and chip. The portion was extremely small for the price. The French fries were excellent. Not sure what they did to them but very good. See another review said "fries looked too seasoned" but they were not. The looked that way but were very good. They fish and chips too greasy, didn't find that to be true either. So I have stayed here 3 times now and going for the 4th next week. I have only stayed during the buy 1 get 1 nights (Winter time), for a few different reasons. 1: The obvious, you get a free night! 2: During this time you almost get the town and river to yourself. 3: There is no one around (similar to #2 but it's a real seller for me!) I do have a favorite cabin that I prefer to stay in, but we will leave that to mystery because I don't want fellow Yelp'rs to book it (sorry). When I go there is 2 adults and 2 dogs, and we fit very comfortably in the cabin. The heaters work great! Hot water has to run some distance and when it's in the teens or twenties it can be even longer, but hey that's no points against them. Cabin is clean, well stocked and there is a building in the center of the cabins which has additional towels, soap, coffee, whatever. Living in Troutdale, it takes us about 90 minutes to get to Maupin via 84 to 197, so it is super close! Or take 26 up and over the hill. Why Muapin you may ask? Because it's not Bend, and the Bend snobs. If you like that crowd, well you better head down there, but this town and Oasis is great! Staff is attentive, very friendly, it's a way to keep a small town going. When you go, take river road north (with the flow of the river) and just go for a drive down the river road. Last time I was there (a month ago) I saw maybe 4 people all day, and if your into that you would like it here. Be a good Oregonian and give Oasis a call and get yourself a cabin, bring the kids and dogs because you will love it here. read more

Their are 3 parts to this business 1. Cabin Rentals 2. Food 3. Guide Service I can speak to 2 of them, # 1 and # 2 I really like that they are always flexible, with check in and out times. The cabins are small but they include running water, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and usually some teas and coffee. Luxury it ain't but clean, pretty affordable, & convenient it is. We've been several times now. Now the food is nothing special, it'll do in a pinch but it's all heavily fried with little flavor, American fare if you will. Again it'll do in a pinch. read more

This is only a review for the cafe: A day of rafting on the Deschutes followed by a milkshake and french fries from the Oasis pretty much made for perfection. It's a simple cafe... small, cheap, friendly. I can't vouch for much on the menu, but the chocolate malt and french fries definitely rival any others I've ever had. Opted to stay at the Oasis instead of camping when the temp dropped and wind was blowing like crazy. They run an awesome deal in the winter...$85/night with one night free. $42.50 a night beats the hell out of camping in freezing temps. They also close their cafe this time of year, so you'll have to head to the rainbow tavern or stone bridge. The pizza in town is pretty good as well. The rooms are small, but they have everything you'll need. Coffee maker, mini fridge, kitchen table. I'll be back! read more

This is a review for the cafe only. Our guide at High Desert River Outfitters suggested we visit the Oasis. The guides there get a kickback (1 meal for every 5 meals they bring in, according to the waitress) so I was a bit worried, but went with it anyways. He told us they had the best milkshakes in the world, and the best burgers in the city. We arrived and sat ourselves outside. There was a sign stating that you should order inside, but there was a nice waitress that was taking orders outside. So we gave her our order, which was a vegi burger for me, normal burgers for everybody else, two milkshakes, and waters for the table. I asked for avocados on mine but they didn't have any. About half an hour later our burgers arrived. My vegiburger was cold. Like literally, below room temperature. The normal burgers, luckily, had been cooked. Our milkshakes arrived about 5 minutes later. We asked again about water and it finally arrived shortly after that. The vegi-burger was very mediocre - besides being cold it was just boring. Not that that's unexpected - I did appreciate that they actually had a vegi option. I'm told the burgers were decent, if a bit small (and $8 or $9?). They came with small bags of Lays potato chips. The milkshakes were quite good but very small for $5. Overall, this just was a mediocre experience - sloooww service, cold vegi-burger, small (but very good) shakes, and just somewhat pricy. read more

If you are planning on rafting or fishing the Deschutes River, this is where you want to stay, whether you need a cabin or a camping spot in their campground. Mark is a super gracious host and I have been a customer of his for the last five years for the annual VW campout he hosts on Father's Day Weekend. Never a nicer guy will you meet. It's not the Ritz Carlton, and it's not supposed to be. The charm and character of this place is great and I will always support a family owned business whenever I can. This place is where you would have stayed 50 years ago, and it's where you should stay now if you are ever in Maupin. The camping is great, the food is good and the milkshakes are not to be missed. Mike's wife's family has owned the Oasis Resort for three generations. The restaurant makes the best "milkshakes" and "Sweet Rolls" you will ever eat! Guaranteed! The Oasis is a third generation family ran resort with a lot of history. The cabin's were originally built to house railroad workers in the early 1900's but don't worry, they've been renovated and remodeled. Prices range between cabins depending on amenities. If the cabins are full, the Oasis runs a campground located about 200 yards to the southwest. The walls and ceiling of the restaurant are adorned with local pictures and about a million other odds-and-ends. The food is greasy and perfect before or after night/day of imbibing. Breakfast rocks. Milkshakes are their specialty. Generations have been enjoying them for a good reason. There are several options for guided fishing trips on the Deschutes, from 1/2 day to 5 day trips. The guides are very good at fashioning the trip to your individual needs. read more

Stopped in last weekend and treated some friends to a late dinner. The place was empty but the staff was very friendly. From what was ordered, I heard no complaints. The fries looked a bit too seasoned the way they were presented and the fish and chips was pretty greasy (the wrapper was covered in grease as we crumpled it up to throw it away). Still, the service was quick, the place was still open late, the staff was friendly, and there were no complaints other than the grease that I heard from my friends who ate there. These two wonderful human beings helped host an event for my friends and I. There were 20 of us and we couldn't have been more thrilled with oasis. The beds are super comfortable the grounds are beautiful and the owners are very genuine people. What an amazing time, I would highly recommend to anyone traveling through Central/eastern Oregon. It's right by the river if you want to go rafting and there are tons of deer everywhere. My friends and I are talking about making this an annual trip. read more

My partner and I stayed in cabin 6 and ate dinner at the cafe. We went to Maupin to relax and it was absolutely perfect for that. The Oasis is the kind of small, family-owned motel my family stayed in when I was a kid and I thought it was wonderful. It's not a chain hotel, it's a cabin to sleep in after a day of fishing or rafting. There are no phones or television in the tiny rooms so you'll be forced to do old-fashioned things like talk to each other, read, paint, play games or explore outside where you may find wildlife and absolutely stunning scenery. Our cabin had a coffee maker, toaster, small refrigerator and thoughtfully provided basket of books and magazines under the dresser, which I intend to contribute to in the future. You can bring your dogs. I enjoyed two nights of really great sleep in the bed. We loved it and we'll definitely be back. read more

The coziest cabins, the sweetest hosts. Every time I find myself there, I find newly handmade additions to obsess over. They do a great job of making a charming historic resort feel updated and homey. Burgers and shakes are delicious when the diner's open, and I drink out of my Oasis coffee mug at home when I want to pretend like I'm on vacation by the beautiful Deschutes. I also felt very comfortable staying there during Covid times, as I know they take the best care to make you feel safe and comfortable. read more

Food only review. We were tipped off to this local spot known for its milkshakes by our rafting guide. After a long day fishing and rafting, burgers, fries, and a milkshake sounded well-earned. They even had veggie burgers on the menu, which I appreciated. They had a huge case of a lot of really interesting drinks, too -- including kombucha tea, which is kind of unusual for DC but maybe not Oregon. ;) The burgers and fries are nothing special, but the milkshakes do not disappoint. Lots of ice cream and fixings options, just about anything your little heart could desire. Service was really slow, but you're in the country, so don't worry -- relax and enjoy the view of the river rushing by. read more

We stayed at the Oasis the night before our rafting trip. I had planned on two nights and we arrived in 100+degree weather later in the afternoon but after seeing the room, I decided not to stay the second night. The description shows the units have character, they were built in the 1900's but what they don't describe is the interior. The beds were good however, the coffee pot was dirty and moldy, the shower had a mold ring too. The pocket door to the bathroom was broken, the door in the small kitchen area was hanging, bugs were in the room (this was anticipated) and the air conditioner needs help. I talked with a manager (I think) at check out and explained our concerns. We did get a refund for the 2nd night (48 hour cancellation) however instead of saying they would look into the problems she said the rooms get a lot of use. I stayed based on previous reviews and cannot justify the four or five star ratings. This might have been a fun place back in the day but not for us. read more
