With the fishing not being great for the two days we were here, the oasis was the best place to spend for the time we weren't fishing. Jackie is an extraordinary worker, made our experience so great and is the nicest person I've ever met. Thank you so much for this time spent here and to Jackie for making our time there great!

Damn good breakfast here. I got the biscuits and gravy. I can't wait to come back and try the other stuff on their menu. Seems like a cool spot!

Okay, so I've stayed here overnite two separate times within the same week. Best think of it as a trial run for TINY HOUSE NATION. If you ever thought you'd like to live in a tiny house, try Cabin #6 on for size. CABIN #6 -- I grew to love it. We are two unrelated people in this space. Has a coffeemaker...a double bed...a kitchen table that has an expandable leaf...cool stool-like chairs for wide butts or you can straddle them like a hobby horse (love these stools)...a small frig with a freezer that works...and the best feature of this tiny space -- the shower. Only a shower curtain separates the toliet and sink and the towel rack. In other words. don't bring your dry clothes into the bathroom in you plan on a shower. HINT: The left knob is the hot. I suggest turning it on, then adding the cold water to customize. OR ELSE you learn the hard way. PROS: The towels smell fresh and feel fresh. Those kitchen stools. The cuteness of this cabin. Friendly reminders about the sugar ants (put up your food to keep them out.) The fishing theme to the curtains and general decor. Curtains separate the bathroom from the sleeping area, so I wished for a door because the curtain didn't quite close the gap for privacy. CONS: General gooey feeling from the bedspread. The bed dipped towards the middle, so tends to roll the sleeper to the middle. HINT: Just put your sleeping bag on it and sleep on top, or remove it. The paint in the bathroom and shower are peeling, well, just don't look very closely. I found some interesting critters in the shower...but hey, it's a cabin. CABIN #3: A bigger cabin, with two double beds. We were now four people. There's a microwave, coffeemaker...a built-in breakfast nook like a picnic table indoors, very nice. I found this cabin had lots of windows with views of neighboring cabins and neighboring activities. HINT: Close the blinds. PROS: Cool swing outside this cabin. Also tables and chairs to chill or to use as a staging area for drying wet clothes. CONS: The wooden door to the bathroom slides, or rather sticks, not easy to close. So now I'm wishing we had the door curtains just like in Cabin #6, but since there were children sharing this room, best to have the rickety difficult door. OVERALL: I enjoyed this tiny house experience. Perfect for two people. It'll test your friendship or relationship, but with communication or familiarity, you can be harmonious in these tiny cabin. Good location, close to river....and to a small market...and to two places to eat...THE RIVERSIDE (pricier but with an outdoor dining deck)...and THE OASIS, which serves up a diner experience and as the check-in office for the cabins. Fun rustic experience. Reasonable value at about $80 per nite for Cabin #6 with the double bed. Also the cabins are clean. The place is not lux, but it's convenient. Discounts available on internet if you search it.

After camping gone wrong, we decided a hotel was needed. We booked a cabin with the resort pretty late and pulled in to a bunch of friendly people sitting around a fire pit. We were greeted immediately and they told us our cabin was already prepared and door unlocked. The most adorable cabins, with such an amazing history. Will 110% be staying here anytime we are in Maupin. So grateful for the accommodations and friendliness we received.

Ewe! - probably the most depressing accommodations ever seen - left early - nuff said

Best food in Maupin. We've eaten at all the restaurants in this town and this is the place we return to every single time. It's a 1950's diner that still does things the old fashioned way - everything made fresh and cooked to order. Best burgers (MUCH better than the restaurant 2 doors down), and best hand-scooped milkshakes ANYWHERE (seriously) we have ever had. Our favorite is strawberry, but you choose what you like. Great home cooked breakfasts. They make all the food here from scratch with higher quality ingredients than the other places in town. Don't miss Oasis Diner anytime you come to Maupin. We never do.

Here is my quarter-eaten biscuits and gravy, add eggs. So, so good!

I haven't stayed here, but the diner is absolutely delicious. Everything I've had has been very, very good, and prices are reasonable. Can personally recommend the pulled pork tacos, the pulled pork quesadilla, and the biscuits and mushroom gravy, but can't wait to try more of their stuff.

The rapids, those crisp, roaring punctuation marks, start writing the kind of afternoon you'll replay in your head for years. Then Alex, our guide, takes the mic. With the charm of a seasoned showman and the precision of a scientist, he turned a whitewater rafting adventure into something unforgettable. His wit is sharper than a dry martini. His knowledge of the river and the volcanic bones beneath it is the kind of insight that makes you feel smarter just for listening. He doesn't just steer the raft. He steers you through time, weaving in the geologic history of the canyon walls while pointing out an osprey nest perched high above, hatchlings inside, chirping beneath the wind. You hear the rapids before you feel them. Then comes the dance. Navigating tight fits between boulders. Gliding effortlessly over shallow shelves. The raft lifts and drops like it's in on the secret. The kids laughed. The adults let go. And when the moment was right, we jumped in. Cold, clean, and utterly refreshing. A shock to the system in the best possible way. It's family friendly in the purest sense of the phrase. Thrilling, but never reckless. Informative, never dull. Wild, but still welcoming. The Imperial River Company doesn't just offer whitewater rafting. They offer escape. The kind where you stop checking your watch and start listening to the water, the birds, the laughter echoing off canyon walls. Book the trip. Ask for Alex. Let the Deschutes show you what summer is supposed to feel like.

Still a bargain for some awesome FUN in nature. You assemble at 10 a.m. to sign waivers and confess your age on the form...get outfitted with the appropriately-sized life jacket. And buy some last-minute things in the office, such as chapstick with sun screen and a water-tight container for smokes. Also pet Lucy the wonder dog. Bring nothing except a great attitude, because they will take pictures for you (having guys stationed along the route with a ready and well-practiced camera). They have SHUTTLE transportation and it's a SHORT RIDE to the put in. We had a badass female river guide...DEB....she was the lead that day, and gave us some great advice on how to row (use your core, not your arms)...easy-to-understand rowing instructions...and she emphasized the fun AND the safety. No one swamped or got pulled into the water, unless they wanted to swim...she also memorized our names and talked a little with everyone on the trip. Also her voice carried nicely over the rushing water and the screaming of the clients...Way to go! Awesome job, Deb! This is a CLASS III river...with plenty of time to recover and just float...water was a little low...so rocks were exposed here and there...and while there weren't the big big holes or crazy nuts insane hydraulics, it was still super fun and we did get super wet. Plus there are LAVA TUBE formations below, so it created interesting spinning motions for the rafting experience....plus there's a rapid where we could STAND UP while paddling (my favorite thing to do!!! Whoooo hooooo). Our guide DEB told us about the geology, the flora and fauna along the river...and she told us the names of each set....Wapinitia...Boxcar...AND she also pointed out the nesting OSPREY and pointed out the deer resting underneath an oak tree...we saw SWALLOWS, the swallows nesting under the bridge...the DUCKS zipping fast out of our way...I LOVE WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS! Deb was also encouraging to our not-so-coordinated and the young'uns...again much appreciated, Deb. One cool feature....you can bullride the nose of the raft and get completely drenched. Everyone on the left side gets wetter...HINT: Just check which side the river guide sits, that will tell you which side is the dry side. I really wanted to ride the nose but I was a tag-a-long on this family vacation, but next time. SHOUTOUT: Friendly upbeat river guides. Also nice picnick lunch...a guy named Rabbit grilled the hamburgers....the buns all stacked in a pyramid....all the fixings and condiments...nicely and evenly cut tomato slices...watermelon, beautifully sliced thin (someone has pretty good culinary knife skills!!).... freshly-baked store-bought type sugar cookies with m & m in them....being a vegetarian/vegan, it was easy to make a tomato onion pickle sandwich from what was on the table. Had they had prior warning, I wonder if they would have had a garden burger for me...it was a thoughtful picnic setup nonetheless. OVERALL: Great outfitter. Reasonable cost to purchase pics, shown to you on an IPAD, then given to you on a flashdrive. Bigtime FUN on the river...on a breezy warm, but not too warm, perfect Thursday.
