I rented a 15' foot gear boat with all the fixings for a (4) day self guided trip on the Deschutes during the off season. DRA was actually closed when I wanted to rent the boat. This ride was amazing, we had cooper as our guide, who was spectacular. He had a great sense of humor which made the ride very fun. We told him that we wanted to take all of the hardest lines and he knew how to make the ride so much more fun while still being safe. We got to swim in the water, sit on the nose of the raft and "bull ride" the raft. All of the staff had a great sense of humor, and made the ride so much more fun. What a trip! I wasn't sure what to expect but it was an adventure worth waiting to find out. Our guides were awesome and made us feel safe and at ease. We did the 4 day trip. We floated a bit each day and camped out at the best spots, it was a slice of heaven. One boat has all the gear and goes ahead and gets camp set up. They cooked great hot meals and made this trip just easy to be taken care of. There are a lot of made up stories on the river but that's part of the fun. We rented rafts for July 4th weekend for 3.5 days for a group of 9, non-guided. Kate was very helpful with suggestions and recommendations for combination of rafts and general questions on the Deschutes River. Everything went pretty smoothly but they didn't include the top off pump that is included. We didn't realize it before we set off (maybe some rafting jitters). It may have been forgotten by the staff, but we actually needed it along the trip. Luckily, at a boat ramp along the river, someone let us borrow theirs. Overall, the equipment was sturdy and their recommendations were just right. Our group of 9 had a great time on the river. I just wish we could have gotten those DRA stickers after they came to pick up our rafts! read more

Incredibly fun and exciting time! Family run business with an amazing crew full of knowledgeable, courteous, and highly entertaining guides who knew exactly how to make the most of our 13-mile trip. My three friends and I decided to come to Central Oregon for the weekend after feeling cooped up in The Willamette Valley for too long. We hiked a great trail, spent some time at the Bacon, Brews and Balloons Festival and then went to camp near Terrebonne. On Sunday, we had reservations for the full day White Water Rafting. The cost was $90 per person. Only one of us has ever been rafting before, so the other three of us didn't know what to expect. But our friend have us a good general outline and the person at the counter also did a great job at answering questions to help facilitate the process. We had arrived at 10:30 and we left in a small bus at 11am. This place was a little different from what our friend said in the sense that she has previously gotten to leave her dry clothes and belongings with the bus/ pick up car. However, this time, you had to leave your belongings in your car. Once we arrived, we were given a lot of safety instructions, our paddles and our life vests. We were then assigned to Jody (male guide). I started off by telling Jody that I did not know how to swim. He looked at me and said "that's what life vests are for!" He was extremely positive, down to earth and really easy to engage with and talk to. He kept asking us our comfort levels about different things and kept the entire trip engaging, fun and he had fun stories to share about different parts of the four hour trip (which included time for lunch). Jody was really good about giving us information about about what was coming up and how to get through it. He told us about different scenarios and let us know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency. He knew many people on the other boats and would engage them with different jokes and practical jokes. He also knew a lot about the history of Maupin which was pretty incredible. Jody did a great job at engaging and encouraging my group with questions, listening and he was very proactive. It was evident that he loved being able to take people out on the water and help them be safe. He was really good about being encouraging to me as someone who doesn't swim and as a result, I did a number of things I honestly never thought I would do. It's crazy to think something as simple as a weekend trip to Central Oregon could be so life altering, but with a little positivity, some great guidance and a few good friends, life can change in the most miraculous of ways. read more

We did a trip on this last Saturday for my sisters birthday and Jody was our guide. What a great day. He kept things exciting and had a lot of great stories throughout the day. He built up the excitement so much for the Oak creek class 4 rapid that when it was time to paddle for it we went too hard and ended up going over backwards. Just finished a multi day trip with Andy and Kate and am smiling as I reflect back on our adventures The guides Zack, Will, Gwen and Jonny were fun, professional, friendly and all-around-awesome. They even took time to show me how to tie some knots they use daily. The food was OUTSTANDING, and every meal was prepared with consideration to the dietary needs of our large group. So glad we opted for the 'gourmet' menu which was only a little bit more than their standard menu - well worth the price !! They made sure that we were having fun both on the river and in camp - lots of great stories and jokes around the campfire They brought games to play in camp like bocce too On the river, we were provided with proper gear to keep us warm and afloat and were always informed on where we were on our journey and what was coming up around the bend If you're looking for an adventure with great people, delicious food, solid gear, and lots of fun, I highly recommend DRA They exceeded our expectations by far! read more

These guys are great, we've never rented anywhere else for the deschutes and go on multiple trips a year. Even when borrowing gear from friends is an option, sometimes I'd rather just rent from DRA just because they make everything sooo easy. Their gear is solid, they're helpful and happy to answer all of our questions, show up with everything we asked for, including ice (!), last minute dry bag requests, random dry box, etc. They do car shuttles now which makes trip planning and put in coordination even easier, and they keep vehicles safe during your trip. They are also super nice, and their border collies are the cutest. read more

We had such a blast with our 11 and 12 year old kids that we went back to DRA 3 times last summer from Vancouver, WA . All of the guides are very professional, fun, and have fun stories . My boyfriend and I did the full day trip with Carson as our guide and loved it! It took about 5 hours total. There were lots of exciting rapids including one class 4 that was super fun (go right when given the choice :-) ).There were also plenty of opportunities to swim, a short hike to a natural water slide, and a delicious BBQ lunch.
