Morgan was our waitress and her service (along with the interesting atmosphere and great food/drinks) makes us really want to go back to Descendants again soon! I love that they have several themed event nights throughout the year (a bit too steep in price for our budget at the moment... but it makes me want to be rich so I could go to ALL of them!) Tonight we shared some reuben egg rolls as an appetizer, and I had the beekeeper (a mixed gin drink), and the Biergarten Burger for my meal. Everything was really tasty (though I wish there was a little less ice in my beekeeper drink, but it still was all very good). Prices were fair - considering many prices are a bit crazy in this economy. I really hope that this restaurant will continue to do well - it really was a treat to visit. I came here with a party of six on a Saturday early evening around 5 PM to get some drinks and dinner and we were not served until after 8 PM. There was limited attention to my table and the service was extremely slow. The restaurant did not appear to be overly busy so the slow service was puzzling. We ended up getting the food to go because it took so long. It has the potential to be a good place however I will not be returning. read more

Been coming here on and off for 20+ years. Love the bar area and ambience. Staff are super friendly. The beer selection is good but unfortunately the in-house brews are not up to the quality of the other Hunterdon breweries. The food is average. Bottom line up front: Descendants is wonderful for all the right reasons: beverages, food, service, and ambiance. GF and I stopped in on a whim at the end of a Poconos road trip on a late-August Saturday afternoon. We sat at the bar and were served by beermaker Joe. Lucky us! Joe was super friendly and knowledgeable. He pointed us to a delicious single-cask Belgian beer, which we enjoyed with delicious Reuben eggrolls and Thai chicken wings. The kitchen staff knows what they're doing. The bar features a wide range of unusual beers and spirits such as scotch, gin, and bourbon that you won't find at most other watering holes. Clearly the owners treat Descendants as a passion project, not just a business. I highly recommend it! read more

This is not the Ship Inn of my youth, and it 100% suffers as a result. I stopped by for a mini-reunion with a few of my OG chums this past Saturday night. All of us grew up within a few miles of this place (probably .25 miles for me, or close to it), so we all have vivid memories of coming here as kids/teenagers. This was a unique watering hole with ye olde wooden architecture, 90% locals and great tater skins. As soon as we walked in though, we could tell that wasn't the case anymore - this is now an official tourist trap (most of the patrons were wearing khaki shorts and clearly wandered in from their nearby Airbnbs) and a lot of the genuine personality has seeped out of it. If the kitschy Bill Murray cardboard cutout by the door doesn't tell you that, I don't know what will. That's not to say this was a terrible experience - and anything with this crew would have been great/memorable anyway. But I was not-so-secretly hoping we'd have an awkward run-in with one of our high school classmates or something, though it's clear they've dispersed to a different locale now (maybe Artie's in Frenchtown?) Despite it being the Saturday of MDW, there was actually quite a few empty tables and we had our pick of areas (I opted for my favorite section to the righthand side overlooking the creek - still one of the best Milford viewpoints, in my opinion). Curiously, there was this weird makeshift dock/pier in the creek, and it wasn't clear what its purpose was. We thought it might have been there for an edgy musical act location, but it wasn't utilized while we were there and virtually every passerby on the bridge also stared at it quizzically. Mysterious. Anyway. Sit over there if you can. I wasn't insanely hungry so I opted for a bourbon-based cocktail (not sure the name - the website doesn't reflect the one I got from the speakeasy menu) with harvest-y vibes. A little too sweet for my palate but pretty tasty overall. One of my chums went with a Milford Mule - I'm sure the tourists don't know, but that's a fun play on words because the Mule was literally the mascot of our school - and wasn't crazy about it. I did end up getting the duck sliders app, knowing there would be leftovers (I had one out of the three while I was there), featuring my first experience with ground duck, gouda and I think bourbon caramelized apples. It wasn't bad but honestly it was on the bland side, which is surprising since they clearly tried to boost the taste profile with the toppings. I'm assuming that ground duck isn't really a thing for a reason. And if we're being honest, I was also a little glum about the fact that they took my beloved tater skins off the menu. Felt like an unforced error. No issues with our waiter - he was chill and accommodating, and when my chum the Shanimal stumbled in off the streets, grabbed a chair from a nearby table and made herself comfortable, no one gave us pushback. I don't recall a significant wait for anything, and it was a relaxed situation so it was nice that he sensed the vibe and gave us some space. I thought the price point was pretty competitive too, given that they're not going after the true blue Milford posse contingent. I can't say this is a bad place; it's not. But it's not as good as it was back in the day, both in terms of overall quality and vibe. And honestly? If I'm in the area looking for an edgy mixology cocktail to imbibe with my posse, I'm probably going down to Lambertville at this point. Bring back the tater skins! read more

Descendants Brewing is our usual break spot after a day on our Harley's riding through P.A. It's just over the boarder and when you're done you can ride over the Dingmans Ferry Bridge and enjoy some twisty roads. I always have a burger and a local brew. Has not let us down yet. Plenty of street parking right outside and very biker friendly town. read more

My wife and I had planned to visit New Hope for the day however it was so crowded so we decided to drive along the river on the Jersey side. With the Frenchtown Bridge being closed we went more north through Milford and decided to stop into Descendants Brewing. At first take it was just an old building with pretty cool ambience. I ordered the Exit the Dragon beer and it was very good. Shortly after the owner Joe took over for an ill bartender and we starting talking about the history of the building. Joe was extremely friendly and personable. He told us about the events they hold and his back story. What started out as a stop for a drink turned into a dinner. Food was excellent. What a great vibe this place gives off. My husband and I discovered this recently and have been back twice already. If you're looking for a great brewery and a cute town this is your stop. We enjoyed some of their beers and appetizers and everything was terrific. The fried green tomatoes with cornmeal were absolutely out of this world and their wings Are quite good as well. What a great place to go for a nice dinner, drink and conversation with friends. We've been now four times and it such a great place. The food is amazing! I've had the Jameson burger and the fish and chips. Highly recommend both. The fish and chips are probably the best I've ever had. The menu is very cool and it broken down into different nationalities. Very clever. The bever is great but the bar is to die for! they have so many different kinds on liquor and the bartender is wonderful. He creates very interesting drinks. I'm a gin drinker and they have, no lie, at least 20 different gins! I've never seen anything like that anywhere. Recenlty, we went with friends for my wife's birthday weekend and just had a great time. It has become one of out favorite places to go, have a drink and a good meal and enjoy life. Highly recommend. Also, they have a soda flight for kids, which I think is very cool. Go try it! read more

Really used to love this place but unfortunately after many instances of the same issues mentioned below it's just time to take our money elsewhere. #Bummer - The kitchen closes early (8:30p) which is understandable except the phone is almost always off the hook for about a 30mins prior so you can't call in an order to be picked up - If you're lucky enough to get your burger order in on time make sure they're cooked to your liking. We always order burgers medium and have had burgers come home rare even after 30-45min waits. read more

This is a sweet spot. I would definitely go back when I'm in town again. Huge selection of spirits. I got to try some yummy stuff there. I saw they did flights there but we didn't do that. Next time I think I will. Bartender was really nice, wish I remembered his name. I feel like i overheard him say John but I'm not sure. He was great. I got this old fashioned with bacon and it was sooo good. Maybe tooo much ice but still really good. My friend irdered other stuff for me to try I don't remember the names. Chartruse? I've been here many times when this place was The Ship Inn. The food used to be decent especially their Scotch Egg, and Fish n Chips. There was definitely some nostalgia to this place. I saw that there were new owners and it was on my list for brew hopping, so I figured I'd give the new place a try. My bf and I got seats at the bar. The first thing I noticed was all the Steins that used to hang over the bar were gone.The Ship Inn had a membership where every time you came in and had a beer off their chosen list, you would get your booklet marked. There was a few pages of beers to be checked off, then at the end of the year if you completed the booklet you were invited back to their free party of food and drinks to basically thank you for being loyal patrons. The Descendants Brewing is no longer like this. That warm feeling I used to get when I walked in is gone. The bartenders are more interested in talking among themselves then serving their customers. We tried several times to get their attention for a refill considering there were three bartenders behind the bar I thought it was strange not to pay attention to your customers. The people sitting around me were great, very friendly and fun. The staff had a very nonchalant attitude which was very disappointing. Both my bf and I ordered a flight. The beers here are excellent. They do a great job with that. My boyfriend ordered BUFFALO WINGS and their SCOTCH EGGS . I ordered a CHEESESTEAK. 20 minutes later my bf's wings and scotch egg arrived. His wings were burnt and way overcooked to the point they were inedible. I knew something was wrong because he only ate one wing. Then he went on to try the scotch eggs and that too was way over cooked and dried out, nothing like the old Ship Inn. I still was waiting for my cheesesteak which never arrived until 45 minutes later after my bf got his order. I had to ask the bartender several times about where it was. I believe that they forgot to put the order in. When my cheesesteak finally arrived the entire roll was black and burnt. I couldn't believe it,I was so disappointed after waiting over 45 minutes for a lousy cheesesteak. My bf brought it to the bartender's attention. He's one of the owner's husband. This was his response, "When you cook at home is your food always perfect? " my bf's response was " When I'm paying for it, it should be." My bf went to culinary school and I've done professional catering. He had a flip attitude and could care less! He walked away and put in a new order for another cheesesteak. I waited another 20 minutes for it to come out. My boyfriend passed on his food completely. Sitting next to me was a friendly woman who ordered buffalo wings and hers looked good. We started a conversation and she looked at my boyfriend's wings and said those looked horrible and dried out. He told her they were. She's friends with some of the people who work here and she told me that the food here is very inconsistent. She also told me that waiting over an hour or two for basic food is average here. I grew up in the restaurant business my dad owned three restaurants and I have never seen anything like this. If a restaurant makes a mistake you own it and you try to fix it and make good on the mistake. You don't have this poor attitude like you're doing me a favor and you could care less! I also watched this same bartender make drinks and when he made a milkshake style drink he never even wiped down the glass before serving it when it's spilled over and became sticky. My bf and I have also bartended. The bartender said he would remove the two items off of our bill. When his blonde wife the owner gave us the bill the items weren't removed. I had to bring it to her attention and she too looked pissed. Again, they had a very poor attitude. My suggestion is hire a real chef who knows what he's doing in the kitchen and is consistent in his food. Second, train the people behind the bar. They should not have such a bad attitude when dealing with their clientele, because they'll never know who will be sitting in front of them. We went as a lunch party of 5 and it was a pleasant and welcoming environment. The interior was spacious and ceilings high, like an old town hall. Rustic & cool with a brewing room and nice bar. Anna seated and waited on us with Emily's assistance. The menu was reduced & CC machine / wifi were nonfunctional due to weather, but there were still multiple parties enjoying themselves. A few drinks, excellent meals, & desserts later we were out the door & greatly appreciative of the friendly service & excellent food. The service was quite slow for how dead it was. We had to wait a while to even get our menus and to get our drinks was a different story. There were lots of waiters walking around but not taking orders. It's very pretty inside and clean. There is a decent amount of seating. The food was good though. We had been to the Ship Inn many years ago and after reading of the launch of Descendants were eager to try it again under the new ownership. All I can say is WOW! What a difference. The space was rejuvenated in such a way that they made it feel fresh and yet respected its history and roots. I don't even know where to start about the food and beverages. The new menu was great. To start we got the mozzarella sticks and crabcake. My fiancé got the Belgian Burger (on a waffle bun with Black Forest Ham, yum!) and I got the fried chicken sandwich and both were amazing. Our friends all loved their dishes as well. The beer list was solid - a combination of house made brews on tap as well as great beers from Germany, Belgium, US, etc. As a cocktail lover, I wasn't expecting much from a craft beer place, but I was blown away by the beautiful (and potent) prohibition-style craft cocktails. They also had a whiskey/bourbon list of 160 choices. We will be back to try those!!! Got myself a super cute t-shirt too. Since we live about an hour away, overall I found this a great spot to eat, drink and enjoy for a day trip to the Delaware River area. Came here for a Saturday afternoon after two friends heard about its recent reopening. Absolutely loved it! The menu included a thoughtful mix of dishes inspired by the genealogy of the owners as well as the background history of the location (previously The Ship Inn). We shared the moulle frites (mussels) which was excellent, and several beers. They were out of the American wheat which was disappointing, but each beer we tried had deep flavors, good hops, and (even) clever titles. In short it was great - and their dedication to the 'theme' and history was also fun. The atmosphere is beautiful: exposed wood, historic maps and drawings, metal ceilings. The entire interior was carefully maintained, aligning with the 'descendants' theme of knowing and embracing one's story (as also seen on the menu). The dining areas felt distinct yet cohesive, and included a sunroom-like space overlooking the creek and a low-lit bar with high-tops. The Service was excellent despite being incredibly busy. I'd love to go back again and try more food of the menu, and their brews (and cocktails!). read more

If you love your family and are proud of your descendants, don't bring them to this place service is absolutely horrible. We took my father-in-law for his 80th birthday and we had the worst time. It took about 2 hours for us to get served and that was with a group of eight people and when I called the owner and told him about our experience, he helped us out and gave my in-laws a nice gift card and we thought everything would be great and we decided to give them a chance again and go for my parents 58th wedding anniversary and we made reservations and we had to wait an hour and a half before the appetizers were even mentioned. We had to wait 45 minutes just for our drinks to get to the table and the server seemed like he just couldn't be bothered with our table. Two memories for my elderly in-laws that they can't get back to horrible experiences. Never again read more

I have no stars to give. On my father's 80th birthday. This restaurant screwed up the order so that 2 people were not fed at the same time as the rest of the party. it was a large party, however, that should not have been an issue. Today on my parents, fifty eighth wedding anniversary We decided to go again, This was a huge mistake We sat for an hour and a 1/2 waiting for our food. We watched tables around us who had arrived half an hour after us be served promptly and courteously. We were told that everyone had arrived at the same time, so all orders were put in at the same time, bigger and tables like ours, 7 people were the last to fired in the kitchen. We never ate dinner. My father who Never loses his cool, finally got up and said he was done and we left . This is the second major life event first my father's 80th and now the 58th Anniversary screwed up, by this poor establishment. We were told that they served smaller tables first. When we all know at any restaurant, you fire orders in in the order in which the patrons arrive. I will never again ever, ever in a million years enter the doors of this establishment. It is absolutely disgusting that they could do this to my family again. We are not fools, we are intelligent people and we have learned from this experience that Descendants Brewing Company In Milford, New Jersey is the worst possible place to ever bring a group of people to celebrate a family milestone. They put us on a list for 45 minutes , ok no problem however we sat at the bar and the bartender ignored us for half hour before he even served us. Then we finally get seated an hour and 15 mins, and then service was very slow. Put it this way, it took us 3 hours to get/eat apps and entrees. We arrived at 6 and left at 945.
