Awesome Podiatrist (Foot & Ankle Specialist)! Dr. Desantis is a cool guy originally from the east coast with a nice personality and great care. I recently injured my foot and it was killing me for 2 months so I went in to see an Orthopedic Dr. a month ago and it was a joke. Very generic consultation, no personality, and no cure/relief for my issue. After another month of pain, I went in to see Dr. Desantis and he was very precise, detailed, and helped address my pain and concern. I wound up getting a shot of cortisone, which usually is quite discomforting, but he did it with care and a gentle touch where it didn't hurt a bit. I absolutely recommend Dr. Desantis to anyone looking for a great Podiatrist/Foot Specialist. He knows his stuff and is a good guy. A+ read more

Always very kind to my 94 yo blind aunt The Doctor and office manager Roseanna are truly bright lights in this world.

Dr DeSantis is a amazing human being. I'm an African American woman and I have been treated with so much disrespect when it comes to entering a doctor's office but doctor DeSantis. Because of him being such an amazing human being he restored my faith in medical treatments. read more

My primary care physician recommended Dr. Desantis to me, and I could not be more pleased with this referral. I had been having a painful heel problem for a while. Dr. Desantis carefully and thoroughly examined the situation and immediately relieved my discomfort. I have always had a very positive experience. Dr. Desantis is very caring and considerate of his patients. His "bedside manners" are over-the-top wonderful. Scheduling an appointment with him is incredibly easy. His office assistant, Roxanne, is a delight. She is very attentive to your needs. My visits to the office (from start to finish) have always been positive. Thanks, Roxanne and Dr. Desantis. read more

Empathic, efficient, effective! Dr. DeSantis is amazing. He cured my toe fungus, plantar fascitis and now helped me with my fractured big toe. Wouldnt see anyone else! read more

Best Doctor That I Seen In Quite a While!!! He was friendly, professional, polite and made you feel at ease! Like the type of doctors that I grew up with. He was very focused on making my chief complaint, not longer an issue! Bravo!!!!! read more

Dr. Desantis is awesome. After reading reviews, I was apprehensive. I found Dr. Desantis to be extremely knowledgeable and kind. His east-coast abruptness is something many so cal snowflakes misinterpret as being harsh or uncaring, but quite the opposite. I'm married to a NJ native, so maybe I'm used to it. He doesn't appreciate folks who trust WebMD over his own years of medical school and decades of experience...so don't come in with your own self-diagnosis. I would feel the same way if someone came to me with that attitude. Anyway, Dr. Desantis has been great, and his treatments and advice has solved my 6 months of plantar fasciitis in about 1 month without needing a painful injection of cortisone! Thank you Dr!!! Rosanna is as sweet as she can be, so if you need soft and gentle, just talk to the receptionist after your appointment. LOL read more

Dr. Desantis was very friendly with my 1.5 yo. He gave us some helpful tips and all's gave an honest medical determination (by referring us to a pediatric orthopedist). He could have been shady, but he was not. He also had great bedside manner with helping my daughter feel comfortable! read more

I have seen Dr. Desantis for my ingrown toenails and he has helped me tremendously. I had to come see him about some pain in my foot and once again, he saves the day. He is one of my favorite doctors and i love his office and Rosanna at the front desk. If you are having foot problems I highly recommend this practice. Thank you! read more

Got a referral from my provider for some recent heel pain and had three choices, unfortunately I chose the most convenient based on location before checking reviews. This guy is a total quack, avoid at all costs. Recommendations: shoe orthotics and wrap (he was more than happy to sell me his recommendations), return in a couple weeks for a cortisone shot if they don't help. They didn't, it didn't. He did not review provided images, but "read the summary" The question that really put me off: "You're how old? You should be happy it's only one foot" I kid you not. Avoid this "doctor" and find someone truly interested in treating your issue, not just lining their wallet with fees and supplies. If I could rate zero stars, I would. read more

I was so impressed. Dr. Desantis he gives the time needed to talk about my issues. He could have told me I needed new orthotics, but he told me my were still in good shape. I asked him how much he would charge to make orthotics he told three hundred less than what I paid for mine years ago with insurance !! He is my new and very good foot doctor.. I hope people will see this very good doctor. read more

Because I am a bit of a perfectionist and worked as an M.D. for more than 30 years, I am usually a very difficult patient to please. However, I was very impressed the assistance Dr, Desantis provided to me a couple of months ago when I was referred to him for a podiatry consult. His exam and history taking was exceptionally thorough and the advice he provided was superb. Following his advice proved to resolve my problem without the need for procedures, special shoes, or medications. I recommend him without reservations. Jack L. Clausen, M.D. read more

i hate to write negative reviews but i have to agree with the reviewers below. i went in to see dr. desantis for a black toe nail. he was extremely condescending and it almost felt like he was making fun of me for being nervous. i have to follow up on this toenail, as it is still clinging on for dear life, but trust me, i will be finding another dr. pro: the receptionist is very nice, easy parking read more

I saw Dr. Desantis about 6 months ago. I came in with pain in my foot and had already seen my general practitioner with xrays. I already had what I believed was the diagnosis (someone I know worked for a podiatrist for 15 years.) Although he was pleasant, he ignored the possible diagnosis. He gave me painful injections that did nothing. After 6 months of continued pain and the issue getting worse, I saw another podiatrist this morning. Sure enough it was exactly what I thought it was 6 months ago. I will need surgery, as was originally told to me. If a non-medical back office assistant with only 1st aid training knew it was neuroma, why doesnt a medical expert???? I would suggest you go elsewhere because even if you know the problem he will still get the diagnosis wrong. read more

I'm writing this review now, 3 years since i visited this doctor. The negative reviews on this site were on point with my experience, including his apparent lack of patient sympathy. He seemed unmoved by history of my pain and discomfort, noting that many of his patients have severe discomfort requiring surgery. I replied by emphasizing that even a 10-20% reduction in pain OVER THE DURATION of my expected life span, was well worth seeking diagnosis and treatment. The mere fact that I needed to explain that speaks volumes. I simply didn't feel like my pain and discomfort were taken very seriously, and he didn't seem interested in extensive diagnosis. After 3 years of continuing discomfort, I'm now researching again for foot doctors with some answers. read more

Doctor was okay - sarcastic but didn't bother me. However, when I called to ask if the MRI had been called in, he snapped at me and treated me terribly. Who does that??? Rosanna, however, could not be kinder or more helpful. I wish her well in working with such an abrasive person. read more

I really enjoy visiting Dr. Desantis because he is straight forward and I feel he genuinely cares for his patients. His East Coast attitude makes him seem down to earth and I like that he doesn't "baby" his patients. read more

I had a great experience. I don't know what other reviewers have experienced, but I was treated with courtesy and patience. I went to my first podiatrist, for plantar fasciitis, about three years ago and was directed to an expensive store where I paid hundreds of dollars for my shoes. It was also suggested that my hammertoes would require surgery. Dr. Desantis told me my requirements could be met with inserts and ordinary shoes. He also said that my toes were not that bad and showed me a picture so that I could know what to look for. He was so helpful and saved me so much money. Highly recommended. read more

Dr. Disantis' suggestions for dealing with my severe foot and ankle pain, helped me walk normally again instead of stumbling around like an old lady, which I am. Nice, frendly and caring personnality. My foot pain dominated my life everyday, but now the arthritis in my ankle is relieved and I no longer feel that I'm walking on little rocks. I have trouble dealing with my toenails also, and he very carefully and thoroughly took care of that problem too. Glad UCSD recommended him. read more

This was the worst experience I have EVER had with a doctor! I would give him zero stars if I could. Dr. Desantis was extremely rude, insensitive, and made me feel so uncomfortable I almost left in the middle of the appointment. I have never felt this way with a doctor. Plus he couldn't give me any advice on how to solve my foot pain, and frankly had no interest in my pain at all. He was more concerned with the fact I was wearing sandals and my feet weren't clean enough for him. He said this was being disrespectful to him! He made me feel like some bum with bad hygiene! That's like going to the dentist and them telling you its disrespectful to them that you didn't brush your teeth after your last meal before sitting in their chair. When I called back to make a complaint, the receptionist apologized like she had gotten these types of complaints before. She said they would not charge me for my co-pay and would not bill my insurance, but she did. I was not complaining in order to get a refund, but they couldn't even get that right. STAY AWAY, find a different doctor. read more

In July 2012 I started experiencing left-heel pain during normal walking. I wore only supportive athletic shoes, but the problem worsened. It was _not_ plantar fascitis. It felt like I was walking on a rock inside my heel. My GP referred me to any of 3 podiatrists so I could get prescription insoles, and I stupidly chose Dr. Desantis b/c he was much closer to home. I am not a screamer, but when he examined my foot and poked at my heel, it hurt so much that I cried out in pain. He said, "You don't have to scream." (!) Then he watched me walk down the hall, and said, "There's nothing wrong with your foot. Here's some prescription-strength Aleve. I'm not going to write a prescription for insoles, because the problem must be in your spine. You should go back to your GP and have her order an MRI." Seriously? With no back pain or sciatica whatsoever. I mean, even my spouse could feel that my left heel had a lump that my right heel didn't have! And with my insurance, an MRI would've cost me about $1500. So I decided to wait. I taped my foot every day and iced it every night, to help the swelling go down. In November, a massage therapist told me about Dr. Bigg Yee Thom, who had helped her with a condition that had defied Western medicine. The first time I saw Dr. Thom, she felt my heel and said, "It feels like you're walking on a walnut, doesn't it?" Yes! I saw Dr. Thom weekly for 3 months, and each time my foot got better. Dr. Thom uses electro-pulse acupuncture plus Tui Na. I was very skeptical about acupuncture, but the treatment worked! In June 2013 I spent 3 weeks in Spain, walking everywhere, with no pain at all. I never wasted my money on an MRI, thank God. So: Dr. Desantis is a useless quack, and Dr. Thom rocks. read more

I visited this doctor today. I am very displeased to say that my experience with him was far from the excellent service I expected. Every once in a while we encounter people in life with no compassion and this guy is definitely one of those people. I am not going to discuss my medical history on this review, but I will say that I have chronic injuries from a car accident I was involved in when I was kid. The doctor showed no concern or care to even ask what the extent of my injuries were, how I feel and how he could help me; all he did was say he could see in my x-rays that I have a severe injury but that I should go away and stop whining. I may have been wrong in what I was thinking and I understand that, but there is no reason to be rude or insensitive to a patient. I will never go back to this pseudo doctor. read more

I'm writing this review almost 30 minutes after I left this office. This was the worst experience I have had with a medical "professional" in my whole life. Not only was I talked to like an idiot, slightly insulted, but the doctor had no interest in speaking to me about my issues. I came to this office with ingrown toenail pain and immediate got sat in a chair and asked if I was ready for the procedure. Not only did I schedule a consultation for this pain but I wasn't even asked if this procedure was something I wanted to do at this time. I told the doctor no, that I didn't want to have this procedure done because I had to go into my restaurant job in two hours and he laughed and asked me why I even bothered showing up. My toe wasn't even properly examined for 5 minutes. I wouldn't trust this doctor with medication, numbing injections, or anything related to my feet or well being at all. I am almost mad at myself for not listening to the reviews on here before I made an appointment, but I was desperate. PLEASE do yourself a favor and find another doctor to help you and don't waste your time with somebody who laughs in your face. That's all. read more

What a fantastic dr. He was kind and listened to what was said. If you need a podiatrist he should be your doctor

Dr. Desantis helped me with a bunion issue and he was the most professional and gracious physician I have ever had the pleasure to be treated by (and I'm a healthcare professional). I was hesitant about having surgery and he took the time to listen and advise me on the option best for me. My health and well being were his top priority. I would definitely refer Dr. Desantis to anyone looking for "best practice" podiatric care. read more

Dr DeSantis was a life saver for me. Upon landing in San Diego, my plantar fasciitis decided it was time to make a reappearance. I could barely walk off the plane and a sympathetic cab driver who obviously knew my dilemma recommended Dr DeSantis. I called the office near the end of the day and told them my situation. They told me to come over ASAP and that Dr DeSantis would wait for me. He could have seen me in the morning but I was impressed that he would see me right away. Not only did he take the time to diagnose and treat my problem, he demonstrated some different exercises that would bring some quick relief and offered to give me a shot if things didn't calm down. He was a really good guy and told me to call him again if needed and he would fit me in sometime during that day. Since the office was already closed, they took care of all the insurance stuff the following day. This man got me through a week of expected severe discomfort and made it more than manageable. I can't thank him enough and recommend him because he is a straight to the point doctor and spends his time on the problem and let me know that what I did was critical to pain relief. He's not a time waster. read more

I changed insurance plans at the beginning of the year. I had my first appointment with Dr. De Santis today as a check up on my ongoing problems with plantar fasciaosis. It has been under control following a PRP injection in 2012 because I have continued to do the exercises and wear the prescribed orthotics. My question was whether I needed new orthotics as mine are 5-6 years old. He examined my feet and my orthotics and told me to keep doing what I am doing. My orthotics are fine. I found him to be professional, courteous and pleasant. Fee was reasonable. read more
