Dr. Berenter is the best! How do I know? My 1st question was "has this surgery changed in 30 plus years? AND told him my story", his reply was "no, but you will not be in that kind of pain, if much at all"! Max 2 weeks in a boot and then back into shoes. Well, I wanted to believe him but really didn't. I have had a number of surgeries in my 70 years, and this is the only one I remember like it was yesterday. I knew I had to proceed, low and behold I don't even think I took 1 pain pill. In a week I told him I was ready to get back to my life and he said, "not so fast, you need to wear the boot at least another week, so you don't mess up what I did". Oh darn! I did and have never had a problem since. He also saw my left foot, as it too had a big bunion, but said, "until you are in pain", let's leave it alone. 3 years later, I am now in pain (it's not a pain you forget). I went to see Dr. Berenter and said it's time. He x-rays my foot and says, let's book it. I am going in next week for my surgery and not concerned a bit because I know he is the best and have referred many people to him in my senior community. The only thing that would be better is if his office was up in our neck of the woods. LOL

They have you fill out forms and…read moreconfirm appointment but never disclose that you will pay an EXORBITANT amount once you are done. In my case, they charged me $750 for a consultation and then never billed my insurance as promised. I reached out via phone and email multiple times and 3 months later they filed the claim for a lower amount $475 of which my insurance paid 1/3 of. I am still fighting to find out why the billing amount was so much less but after their lack of response in the past, I doubt they will respond.

At no point did they mention that they did not take my insurance(you fill out a form to include your insurance info). I get to the office at the time of my appointment and the door is locked. Okay, I understand, it is Monday and things happen. I wait a bit and the doctor shows up and apologizes, says that his regular front desk person is sick. That is absolutely not a problem, I am patient and easygoing usually. The doctor seems nice and lets another person and myself in the office. He directs his existing patient to a room since he knows him already and asks me to take a seat and he will get me paperwork since I am new. Great. About 5 minutes later(after listening to the doctor on a personal call in the back), another person comes in and it is the fill in for the regular receptionist. Awesome. Things are rolling now...or so I thought. She looked friendly enough, but not overly so, just sort of "meh. I`m here". She got me paperwork to fill out and took a scan of my insurance card. I fill out the paperwork and wait a bit more. She then tells me they do not take my insurance and they are out of network for BCBS "for some time". Okay. I say it would have been nice to know that before I made the drive out here. She shrugs and looks unconcerned with my statement. I tell her I have never had this happen and that if an office didn`t take my insurance, they usually tell me before. She proceeds to tell me there are too many plans for them to have time to look into everyone's insurance. Okay, so the office is just lazy. Got it. I ask how much the visit would be and she tells me $425 for the initial exam. I make a sound of surprise and she says that I can pay up front and then if my insurance normally reimburses me then I should get the money back. Well, I didn`t want to take that chance, so I tell her I`m going to look for another office who is in network. She looks me over and only says "whatever you want to do". Very flippant. Anyway, I left. TL;DR This place doesn't take BCBS. It looks like they have a handful of reviews about being told they don`t take a person's insurance afterwards. Woman up front with the glasses was rude. Doctor seems nice and I`m sure he is a good one, but they need to work on their organization and get a better face for the front office.

After briefly reviewing her MRI, Dr. Patel dismissed her symptoms and told her that injections would not work, that her spine was "closed," and that surgery was the only option. The conversation felt rushed and one-sided, with surgery being pushed without exploring or discussing other possible treatments. When we tried to follow up with questions and concerns, the office did not return our calls for over a week. When we finally received a response, we were told that my mother-in-law had "trust issues" and that Dr. Patel would not continue working with her. This was extremely unprofessional and upsetting, especially for someone who was simply seeking clarity and reassurance about her health. Ironically, we are now grateful that the relationship ended, because we found another doctor who took the time to properly evaluate her MRI, said surgery was not necessary, provided injections, and my mother-in-law is now doing great and feeling significantly better. Every patient deserves to be heard, respected, and given options -- not dismissed or labeled for asking questions. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Dr. Patel.

I have had fungus on both my big toe nails for probably a year, and it was getting worse not better. I am happy to report the treatment worked! In addition to the (painless, fast) laser treatment, I was able to purchase a topical brush on prescription treatment also. I had looked into Jublia from another doctor, but insurance considers nail fungus a 'cosmetic' problem and will not cover the $1400 (!) cost of the standard topical nail fungus treatment. Dr. Berenters office has their own prescription topical treatment available at a savings of about 95% of the Jublia price. Amanda, the tech that runs the laser machine, is THE kindest, sweetest person, despite being extremely busy, as is the whole office. Thank you, SoCal Foot Care, for offering the Groupon for laser treatments at a greatly reduced price, as well as the effective, affordable topical treatment. If you have ugly nail fungus and are on the fence about the Lunula laser treatment, go for it! It's absolutely painless, quick, and I saw definite results.
