Last friday we went to the Derwent hotel after a walk along the canal from Cromford, although they opened a little , late they were very polite, and showed lots of couesy, the food was excellent and the menue was very broad based, we ate outside on the very clean patio and meals were good quality, and the service was excellent too, overall we were very pleased not expensive either, Today a week later on we went again and the same goes for that visit exactly, My wife and I are not easily pleased sometimes but we cannot criticise the management ,food or service at all, Why those nerds posted such negative reviews I cannot faqthom at all, must just be maliscious for some reason, Go visit and try it. you won;t be dissapointed, read more

Since taking over some 6 weeks ago the pub has been a great dissapointment to the village. Initially there was no red wine to be had. The welcome was decidedly frosty. There was no food available (due to a problem with the ovens - what's wrong with cobs?). They were closed due to a technical fault - that turned out to be that they didn;'t have a licence. They are closed on Wednesdays - it's their day off aparently. A Quiz has been promised for a Monday night - traditional in this pub but none has yet happened. Twice ther has been no real beer available. Despite assurances on Sunday night (22nd May) this week that they would be open on Monday evening - important as there was a village social club meeting on that night the pub was once again closed, resulting in a group of about 8 people being stood outside the closed pub at 7:45. There seemed to be no one at home. I cannot see this enterprise lasting. Reading the comment posted by russjlew I cannot understant why the brewery allowed these people to take the tennancy - I'm sure they will be looking for another one soon - or worse closing the place altogether. read more

A new young Manager has recently taken over this pub and he has certainly made an impressive start. Beautifully decorated and a lovely looking pub (though needs some flowers outside to give it the wow factor). He is clearly enthusiastic and if the food we had is anything to go by (we called ion on Saturday 20th October 2012) then I can only think he will make a real success of it and I certainly hope so. The pub has had a checkered history and had been closed for some time. It is in a great spot for walkers, we came up opposite the pub from the canal and it was certainly a welcome sight. We ordered a two course meal each and the home made food was superb, as was the beer, as were the pudding and coffees. We certainly wish him well he has made a cracking start. read more

Lunch on Saturday. Pub was busy, landlord and landlady both on the bar on this day. Found both very nice and welcoming and seemed very proud of the pub. Apparantly the pub has been closed for almost a year so they need all the business they can get. The beer was great, had a pint of the guest ale which was very well kept. The food was fantastic and very good quality. We will be back again when we next visit the area. We wish them luck for the future and hope they make a success of this fabulous pub. read more

After a pleasant walk along the canal I stopped here with my wife for a quick pint and something to eat. We were served by a friendly girl (the landlady I found out later) with a very nice pint of IPA. We sat in the pub, which was very clean and the sofas were comfy. We both ordered a beefburger which the menu says was homemade. Well it certainly was homemade and served in a right nice bun. Absolutely lovely. We will be back. read more

Dropped in for a meal on Sunday 26th August 2012 during a walk around the Dales. Recieved a great welcome from the new landlady. Great food, would readily recommend them. read more
