Was looking for a nice late afternoon walk while on vacation. Came across this spot that was around…read more10 minutes from our hotel. Lots of fast food restaurants nearby if you are looking to have a picnic or eat in the park. So many benches you relax on and there is a nice 1 mile walking path around the lake. This park has a lot you can do. Soccer and football areas, play structure, fishing - can even launch a boat, small hikes and a pool. It was so lovely we actually ended up coming back to take some graduation photos. Lovely spot!

Except for massive swarms of big flying insects along the length of the river walk. No idea what they were, but had to cover my face at one point. I had brought Hannahbelle along since Deepak is hoping to get a dog at some point in his life. He wanted to practice leash walking and just generally get a dog fix. They hit it off. ;) Not a lot of green space, but some people were playing frisbee in the parking lot. Garbage bins are limited. They have a "bring it in, take it out" philosophy. And please make sure you have baggies to clean up after your dog. They're not supplied. The big draw is being able to walk adjacent to the Merrimack River, as part of the New Hampshire Trail System. It was lovely and calm today, but can be quite dangerous over those big rocks during spring thaw runs. Not unusual that first responders need to rescue people who aren't thinking, or daredevils who underestimate the power of fast moving water. Not all rescues are successful. :( Ample parking, though it is "pay and display", deposit your money at a machine and display the receipt on your car dashboard. Currently $.75/hour with a 10 hour limit, though in other parts of the downtown area, it's only a 2 hour limit. There's also a lot of tall trees, so there were some people hammocking. Lovely well maintained flat trail around the lake. No swimming is allowed, but boating is allowed. Feeding animals is also not allowed. Would recommend coming here for picnicking and getting some fresh air.

In the back is an extensive walking park. It's a great place to bring your best friend on his or her daily walk. The grounds are actually well kept. As you drive here, you will be moving through Northern Manchester, which as you will find out is a wealthy location with large mansions. I'd recommend stopping at the kitchen restaurant up the road for Italian coffee and great food. The staff there was quite lovely too.

Filled with history and a beautiful view of the St Marie's Church as well as the old mills by the river, this gem of a park has many monuments, statues, and memorials detailing the French Canadian local people and history. Today, children were sliding and gathering snow to build a snow sculpture for their winter carnival.

It gets emotional walking though but it's a wonderful remembrance of those who have gave so much so that we could have so much. Seems like concerts, races are held here often. Plenty of places to sit and reflect. The Golden Star mother's status is actually across the street from the park in front of the Hilton doubletree. It dedicated to the families who have lost their sons or daughters during combat. Never forget.

If you're not familiar with the area, finding where you actually need to park might be frustrating…read more The directions I got from Google (along with a couple of street signs) pointed us to the Rock Rimmon soccer field, which is not accessible (there's an actual gate that's closed), leaving you wondering how you actually get to the park. We went back East on Bremer streets for 6 blocks and found park access on the left. If you're GPSing or getting directions online, I would look up "Dupont Pool" instead of Rock Rimmon Park. Anyway, once my girlfriend and I got there, we found a large pool, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a playground. No picnic tables though, which was kind of a bummer, since we brought food. But we just plopped down in the grass and ate. After we ate, we went through the trail. At first, it looked like it was going to be somewhat of a climb, but once we started, it really wasn't bad. You definitely notice a lot of litter, including broken glass, and vandalism; mostly from chalk. Most of the chalk writing is fine but there is some stereotypical, childish, vandalism there too. However, the view from atop of the rock is very pretty. We got lots of great pictures, and enjoyed just sitting with our feet dangling off the edge. The temperature was great out, so it was really relaxing. It was a good experience, but it strikes me as a place that I might only visit once again.

I learned a few new things on this visit, and we also got to walk to the Kalil house just down the street, which the museum has recently taken under its control.
