They did the taxes and in 2010 my new accountant looked over the file and realized she didn't claim them. I reviewed the file and the disability T2202 form was in there and all the disability information and she said she never knew about it. In fact, she blamed me because I was supposed to "check the numbers" before leaving her office. Check what numbers? I didn't even know what I could claim which is why I hired a "professional". I ended up paying her bill and the bill of the new accountants to fix her mistake. She didn't own up or offer any refund and her mistake would have cost me $5,000 if not discovered by my new accountant. I was told that tax return for self employed individuals cost $80 when I booked my appointment over the phone.By the time they were done with me, I paid $145. Here's their explanation: $40 for personal tax return + $80 for self employed tax return + $20 for having transportation/vehicle expenses claim. Lucky for me, I did all my receipt and expenses calculations already, otherwise that would have cost me more. I was surprised they didnt start charging for every paper clip and staple they used to prep my tax return!! A bookeeper preps your paperwork, not an accountant. The accountant in the office DOES NOT check the paperwork prior to filing. Next time, I will just purchase a turbotax software and do it myself. He absolutely REFUSED to even hear the concerns I had with their mistakes costing us over $25,000 dollars in overpay on payroll for a small staff. Also, charging hundreds of dollars for doing 5 employee payroll calculations per month (takes me 15 minutes to do it myself)... Chris refused to have a discussion claiming I treated his staff poorly- I have no problem admitting that the last few encounters were horrible, as they kept costing us more and more money, charging more, and would not address the concerns of paying an additional 5% holiday pay on every person's paycheque... in addition to the stat holidays and vacation pay ( totally separate)... When I asked them to review our payroll process 4 years ago, they confirmed it was correct... every year, I'd express how unusually high the deductions were... I asked nearly two years ago for them to again look into this... and last summer they again pacified my concerns reassuring me it's correct. I don't know one other company that has an additional 5% of previous month earnings added to staff income, over and above the usual earnings, and calculating usual deductions. How can they claim to be professional bookkeeping service, especially when they refuse to acknowledge their mistakes?
