so happy to have found this place! we stopped in freeport hoping to find a local ice cream joint and to our horror only saw ben and jerry's! but after spotting a cone shaped sign we found this place. wow! amazing ice cream HUGE portions. seriously a small is at least a pints worth- no clue why it was packaged in a chinese take out box but the oatmeal cookie and banana pudding was heavenly. don't know about any of the other food, but the ice cream was 10/10. they also have soft serve available and toppings read more

Very pleased to find this family owned business amongst a very commercialized area. Reasonably priced and yummy tasting lobster roll ($12.99). Lots of tail meat, some lettuce and just enough mayo. Let's get the good part out of the way: the sandwiches are great and the building is really cool. Add to that, Derosier's has been around since 1904, which can't be said for a lot of food establishments. Now for the bad: the customer service was terrible. I'm not sure the gal running the counter knew that her mouth was capable of forming a smile, let alone any other expression than "I hate my job." I tried to let her know that the Pepsi was out and needed changing, she looked at me with disgust, and turned around to handle food after handling money. Which brings me to my next point. I witnessed the same gal help a customer and handle cash, then turn around and pick up raw ingredients and put them onto sandwiches or into bags without washing her hands or even using hand sanitizer. I witnessed her being rude to other customers as we waited and it really turned me off to the whole experience. Until a better staff is put in place, I think this place will continue to receive bad reviews. read more

So I went to Derosiers again. I can't believe it has gone even further down hill. I am so distraught. This is one of the staples of my yearly visit home. I bought 3 ham toasties and all 3 were the worst sandwiches yet. They lacked provolone cheese and now they don't put cheese on top. It looks like they might use half the ham that they used to. Great service and delicious food. Their toasties are really good. Their bread is light, airy and toasted with your preferred filling. I bet you all of the sandwiches are good. Their pizza is filled with toppings and are all fresh ingredients. Their pizza crust is not that bad either. Parking is hard to find which is the only negative thing. In the summer, Freeport gets pretty crowded and often times off street parking in front of restaurant is not available. read more

After loving Derosiers for many years I'm sad to say this place is now going downhill. Not sure if it has to do with the owners laissez-faire style of running a business or if it is just general incompetency of his staff, nevertheless I will no longer be supporting this local business that I used to love. Went to get a sandwich today which upon returning home found it to be missing items and having extra items that I did not request. Went back to have it remade as it wasn't far and thought it had been done correctly this time. I though that was nice for the two girls working to remake it right away. Alas, upon further inspection found it to be made incorrectly once again. There had been olives in the bottom of my sub which I have an allergy to, making the food inedible. After many failed attempts over the months to order the food I had once so enjoyed, it is time to throw in the towel with Derosiers. Phil it may be time for you to take a more authoritarian role in your business as I fear Derosiers is next in the long line of local places to lose their mojo post-COVID. read more

It's hard to go wrong at a family owned sandwich shop. I ordered the tuna toasty on rye- definitely hit the spot! My dad and brother got the pastrami on rye and the roast beef toasty. I love Derosier's. Hands down. I moved to Freeport from central PA, and quickly became familiar with the local town haunt. As the oldest continually opporating business in town (before LLBean), they have had time to perfect their casual offerings. This is the place to grab a bite for lunch break or take a pit stop during a day of shopping. Their pizza is the best I've ever had, and the single slices are massive. They also serve the most mind blowing chocolate chip cookies I've ever eaten, and I'm from the Hershey area of PA. You can also pick up a lottery ticket, a pack of cigs, and beer or wine. They really are an example of a Maine family owned business, so please stop by next time you're in the area and need some great food. read more

Update- been trying to give them a chance. Most of the employees do not struggle to smile, and do not look visibly pained when serving customers- except for the redhead with glasses. Wow. I walked in, smiled, said hello, and she stared blankly at me. I glanced at the menu, starving after a day at the beach, and she had her eyebrows furrowed at me, sighing anxiously. I asked her in a very concerned tone, "Is everything alright?" She glared further and said curtly, "I'm just waiting for YOU to order." I looked at her and said, "I'm not going to order anything anymore. Thank you for ruining this for me." The owner was RIGHT there and did nothing. Some of the employees are awesome, and I will only go in when they are present. One has dark hair and she's always friendly, the guy is hilarious, and the girl with blondish red hair is super nice and caring. When the nice people are working, the experience is so much better. Nah, not it. To start, they didn't have oli & vinegar on their sandwhiches. Maybe I'm just from New York and expect better but what kind of "Italian deli" doesn't have oil and vinegar? Next, the put American cheese on their italian steak sandwiches.... Ma'am where's the provolone? Italian my ass. Lastly, they put the cheese and meet on the OUTSIDE of my sandwhich. It was basically a meat wrap with bread on the inside. The 16 year old kid who made my sandwhich didn't even try to get the contents of the sandwhich on the inside. We had the best lunch at Derosier's! Cute place, very clean. They had 6 tables inside and we didn't have to wait for a seat. We ordered 3 Italians and 1 cheesesteak. Great sandwiches, the bread and fresh veg made it. Staff was friendly and took the time to make sure our order was correct. Get a cookie because they were insane! Probably just a bad night, but they need to work on their customer service. We walked in for ice cream and the place was empty except for two women working behind the sandwich counter. It took several minutes before either of them acknowledged us. One eventually asked if we were ready to order. We were. She put down whatever she was working on and walked over to help us. As she did, the phone in her pocket rang. She answered it, walked right on by us and over to the cash register area where she had a pen and pad. She seemed to have completely forgotten about us as she started writing down the caller's order. It was kind of insulting to be ignored like that. Pizza is mediocre, but service is fantastically awful. When we walked in the only free table was rather dirty. It was cleaned off for us when we asked, but we did have to ask. The two young women who were running the place really had no personality. We were overcharged by a few dollars but when we asked about it, she said it was right and my husband didn't want to push the issue. But there is no way it was right. I ordered thin crust but my pizza looked the same as my husband's in term of thickness, so either she forgot or their thin crust is not very thin. After our pizza we wanted to order gelato. When I walked over to the gelato counter, one of the girls was taking all the scoops out of the gelato in an effort to clean up. They close at 9 and it was 8:35 on the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend, and there were other people in the place, also ordering ice cream! I said, "Oh, we were actually going to order some of that." and the girl actually shot me a look of death before grudgingly saying "Ok." It should tell you something that on any given Little League night in Freeport, ME, the sidewalk outside Derosier's Market is laden with players. It is the go-to place after baseball. And it has been this way for 105 years running. Derosiers, which is right across the street from L.L. Bean, has been serving up great pizza, sandwiches and ice cream to the Freeport community for more than a decade. For visitors, Derosiers is probably the most convenient place in town to grab a take-out meal to eat on one of the benches on the Bean campus or nearby parks. Perfect place to get dinner while you are staking out your turf at one the Bean Summer Concert Series shows. My favorites are all the toasted sandwiches and the Canadian BLT Italian. We stumbled in here to grab a bite before hitting the road for four hours. I had never experienced the Maine toastie--which is essentially a sandwich on a hotdog bun thats grilled. I got an Italian toastie, which was a ball of greasy cheesy goodness. My friend got the turkey one, less greasy but still a ball of goodness. Pizza was good for a quick stop on a windy day. Someone in my party was very interested in the specialty beer 6 packs in the middle of the room. She asked a few different people that were working and they all said they weren't old enough to sell the beer so they couldn't tell what the price was. Went to Derozier's and ordered a pizza. It was just ok. The crust was pretty bland and the sauce was not very good. The ice cream, however was really good. If you're looking for awesome pizza, this is not the place. I would definitely recommend the dark chocolate rasberry ice cream. Will try the sandwiches next visit. read more
