I went in for a Sculptra procedure with Vanessa Moreno at the Redondo Beach location, and I specifically requested treatment only in my jaw area. After the first jaw injection, the nurse recommended also injecting my mid-face, even though I did not feel that area needed treatment. I agreed because I trusted her professional judgment. During the mid-face injection, she used a needle rather than a cannula and injected from beneath my nose toward the outer part of my right eye. As soon as the injection happened, I felt a sudden zinging sensation shoot toward my eye. I briefly lost vision and felt as though something had entered my eye. Even after I reported these symptoms she dismissed them as "just the lidocaine" and continued the procedure. I believe the procedure was performed unsafely because product was placed in an area I had not originally requested, the injector appeared rushed, a needle was used in a high-risk anatomical area, the injection path was dangerous, and the procedure continued despite my immediate alarming symptoms. Multiple doctors I later consulted told me that safer technique should have been used in that area, including more careful avoidance of the infraorbital foramen and zygomaticofacial nerve possibly using a cannula instead of a needle, and injecting ( like almost all sculptra injectors do) from the outside towards the inside. The day after the procedure, I woke up in excruciating pain with severe mid-face pain, vertigo, a prolonged headache, neurological-type symptoms, and difficulty thinking and speaking. That lasted for 6 weeks. Over time, I also developed ongoing trigeminal-neuralgia-type pain, chronic dry eye with reduced tear production in the eye above the injury, and continued visual disturbance. Prednisone and gabapentin were the only treatments that helped manage the pain and inflammation. I also believe the facility failed to respond appropriately afterward. When I first reported my symptoms, I was only told to take an antihistamine and rub the area, and the nurse did not meaningfully respond despite my repeated outreach. Although the medical director later ordered MRIs, I was not compensated for them, I was not referred to a neurologist or other appropriate specialist, and I felt my symptoms were minimized. Overall, I believe both the procedure and the follow-up care were handled improperly, resulting in severe pain, ongoing neurological symptoms, emotional distress, lost work, and substantial out-of-pocket medical costs. I do not think anyone should be getting PLLA in their face without fully understanding the risks. But if someone does choose to get it, they should go to a doctor who truly understands facial anatomy and the anatomical danger zones, even if it costs more. I bought Sculptra on sale at DermFx and saved a few hundred dollars. Now I owe thousands in medical bills from the injury. If I had gone to someone who knew the anatomical danger zones, years of my life may not have been taken. Because I know not everyone likes to read long reviews, here's the short of it before my longer review: This place only cares about money and if you are injured as my partner was by a Dermfx nurse, you can expect to get the cold shoulder from DermFX! Go somewhere else that cares about you, as an experienced healthcare worker myself, I beg you. Here's the longer review: My partner, a long time, loyal customer of DermFX, went in for a Sculptra injection and was horribly injured by nurse, Vanessa Moreno, still working for DermFX, ignored the pain that my partner said she felt when a nerve/nerves were injured and she shouldn't be injecting sculptra if she doesn't know anatomically dangerous areas or doesn't have the proper experience for this treatment. Subsequently, DermFX and its heartless owner Erin Alonso, did not only fail to do anything to help after my partner's debilitating nerve injury, they IGNORED her. Erin, who is too busy hosting a podcast and polishing her faux image as a philanthropist could not be bothered to answer my partner when she was scared and in so much pain from an injury suffered at Erin's business. Erin truly represents the worst of the healthcare field, and I say that as someone who has been working in healthcare myself for over 10 years. She is someone who is more focused on image, expansion, and money than generally helping patients. She should be ashamed of herself but more likely than not she'll just have this review taken down as they have with other negative reviews. The facility itself as well as the nurse, Vanessa Moreno, also ignored my partner or put off any contact with her after the injury. My partner also wrote an honest review of the pain and suffering she endured (a review she only wrote because the facility had ghosted her and neglected to do any follow up care after injuring her). My partner was a long time customer of DermFX (spent THOUSANDS) before the injury and they still chose to treat her this way, so please think how they will treat you should anything go wrong. This whole experience has been devastating and heartbreaking for my partner, who trusted in DermFX. It's also been crushing for me and her family to see the pain she has suffered since, which includes endless sleepless nights, fainting from pain, severe depression, partial loss of eyesight, and her having to quit her job. She's had to spend thousands out of pocket on treatment, and I've seen the person I love the most in this world lose herself because of DermFX. Getting anything done, even an elective cosmetic procedure, at a medical facility is inherently an act of faith as you trust in that facility and its practitioners to take care of you during a procedure and subsequently. Sure, DermFX has largely positive reviews as most of their procedures are truly so hard to screw up, but when push comes to shove, you want to know that a facility will take care of you following treatment, especially in the case of an injury they caused. As someone who is a healthcare worker, it's shocking to see the behavior and practices of DermFX. Please don't just take my word for it though.
